Norma, go to menu HelpGeneral Information and see if the number of Individuals match the name list count. And Like Cathy said make sure ALTERNATE and MARRIED names are not ticked under the name list OPTIONS. My name list has 18,767 individuals and HelpGeneral Information matches. I do have a lot of unused RINs so my highest RIN is 18,843, 76 higher. Of course I have the reverse of you. I don't see how you can have more people than RINs. In the name list, click the # button at the top left of window to sort the list and then scroll down to the bottom of the list and verify the highest RIN is lower than the other counts. Even if you have not been consistent in inputting locations, the Master Location List is probably still the way to go. Try different options under the Sort button -- sorting by City, County, State or State, County, etc. and listing from right to left v. left to right. Re: [LegacyUG] Census report
Hi Jane, Have you used the right search to collect your direct ancestors (with or without their siblings etc depending on which checkboxes you tick)? Your reference to instead of getting the ancestor with no parents, I get several of that line suggests you may have decided to use the miscellaneous search for direct-line ancestors with no parents and thinking you'll use that instead of the focus group? They may be the ones who were alive in 1790 but that depends on how far your research has gone in each line. You need to use the focus group to pick up those alive in 1790 in lines that have been researched further back. This list will have people completely outside the time you are interested in for this census. For example it should include your parents. It's the next step that limits it to those potentially alive in 1790. How accurate the list will be will depend on how many dates you have entered for the potentials and what lifespan you use in the census search. It's a potential list. It's a two step process: Step One: Limit who is even considered in the census search to a group. This is where you create a new search list using that radio button setting at the bottom of the search screen. Step Two: Do the census search just on that group of ancestors by changing the radio button at the bottom of the search screen. RE: [LegacyUG] queston re: RIN numbers number of individuals
Hi Norma, It seems odd if your largest RIN is smaller than the number of people. I really don’t see that actually happening as each person has to be assigned a number. If the number is larger than the number of people – that is normal, particularly after some adding, deleting, merging people. The RIN’s are not necessarily in a complete sequence. My highest RIN is 446678059 – I have quite a large file, but not that big J I just renumbered the RIN’s in my file and now the highest number is just over my name count. If you don’t use the RIN’s for another purpose, then you could try the renumbering as well, but I don’t think there is anything to worry about. An individual should have only one RIN whether she never married or married multiple times. The total number of individuals is derived from “general information’ under the help tab. I have 3 other family files: one is over 10,000 people, another over 5000 and a very small one of only 56 people. I’ve checked all 3 files and the 2 largest do not correspond either, but people have been merged deleted in both files, so I’m not surprised. The very small file of 56 people is correct in that the total number of people corresponds to the largest RIN. The file seems to be working correctly so maybe I’m obsessing over nothing, but I’d still like to have the numbers correspond. You would only have more individuals than RINs if you're showing the AKAs or married names Sincerely, Sherry Technical Support Legacy Family Tree On Thu, Mar 13, 2014 at 9:15 AM, Laird lftu...@bayleenet.net wrote: Norma, go to menu HelpGeneral Information and see if the number of Individuals match the name list count. In a new family file, I have 445 individuals, yet when I go to Name List and click on RIN, the highest RIN number is 444. How can there be more individuals than RIN numbers? And if one person is entered twice, yet has only one RIN, how can I determine who that person is?
