[LegacyUG] Legacy Family Tree - Virtual User's Group Meeting - free webinar now online

2014-09-05 Thread Geoff Rasmussen
The recording of today's webinar, Legacy Family Tree - Virtual User's
Group Meeting, is now online for free at www.FamilyTreeWebinars.com

   - So glad I changed to Legacy .. not a better program for genealogy.
   - Being a visual learner, it helps so much when you do these classes!! I
feel like it's *just for me* - one on one instruction!
   - This User Group is very helpful. I am in the process of switching from

thought were not available in Legacy, but by attending the Virtual Group I
found that those options are still available to me!

Thanks all. I did get to the article finally. It did not answer the question
as I understood it. The question was not mine but I was very interested in the
answer since I thought there was a way to store a file for, let's say tag 7.
Use tag seven for something else and then later restore the tag 7 file that was
saved. Good idea but don't believe it can happen.

Hi Eliz,

Have you tried a check/repair on your file?
If so
1) check the gap criteria you have set for these issues (one way there
is Tools Ribbon - Potential Problems) - something might have happened to
the settings - or the defaults may not be to your liking.

2) check that you haven't inadvertently added a marriage to one of the
parents - I've had reports that the children are in the wrong order when
some have been step children.

3) The default for the time between marriage and child is 48 months.
This may be too short for you these days but rare in the past to go
longer unless there was some problem with miscarriages, etc. Note you
can set these gaps to only work for the non-living and/or only work for
marriages before a date you specify. Birth control has made a nonsense
of gap indicators and families began using birth control at different times.

Re: [LegacyUG] Problem reports

Hi Eliz

You said : I am never sure I have the first child or all the children.
That's why they are Potential problems.

In this case a reminder that you may be missing a child.
If you know you are not, you mark it not a problem.
If you've done all you are likely to be able to do to find other
children, you will probably want to mark it not a problem.
If you haven't checked thoroughly then leave it as a reminder or make a
To Do and then mark it not a problem as you've considered it and made
another reminder to look further.

Just some ways to deal with the little red circle.
