[LegacyUG] How to add a source citation to a photograph?

2015-06-10 Thread Phil
Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked before but is there a way to assign a
source citation to a photograph?

I have a number of images from a single source and want to indicate
where they came from.

Cheers,

Phil.

Re: [LegacyUG] Charting Problem

2015-06-10 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Sue,

Are you opening Legacy Charting from a Desktop or Start icon/tile?
You can save a few steps by opening from the Report Ribbon from within
Legacy and it will open with the file that is open in Legacy and the
focus person from Legacy.

The theme files are in the Data folder you mention but none of the files
in the LegacyCharting folder are meant to be opened by other programs.
Within the Data folder are folders for each chart type which contain the
themes. Des is the folder for the Descendant Chart.
The error message you give has left out a folder - it should be
... LegacyCharting\Data\Des\_Default Theme

See if you get the same error by opening from within Legacy.

See if you get the error by choosing another chart type.

Updating Legacy to the latest build might help. Check on the Legacy Home
Tab in Legacy. The current build is 501.

If you're still getting the error, I'd do a complete uninstall and then
reinstall after downloading the latest build from the website.
See
http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00926/14/Tips-and-How-Tos/Uninstall-how-to-do-a-complete-and-totally-clean-removal-of-Legacy-8.0.html

for how to do this.

The possibility of teaching a face-to-face class on how to use Legacy has come
up, and I am wondering if any of you have taught such a thing. Either one time
or a class series. I'm not looking for lots of little details, but more a
Getting Started and common/general tasks. I have experience in developing
curriculum and many years of teaching, but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if
it exists. My internet searches have proved fruitless.
I know that Legacy has great videos and online tutorials, and I can find more
all over the internet. But I really am wondering if anyone has developed a
basic curriculum for a series of classes on the basics of using Legacy.

Anyone?

[LegacyUG] Charting Problem

2015-06-10 Thread Sue
I have been using Legacy about a year, and so far so good. But I can't
seem to use the charting part.

I open charting, choose the type (descendant in this case), choose the
database (I have more than one), and this message comes on:

X Cannot create file "C:\Users\S\Documents\Legacy Family
Tree\LegacyCharting\Des\_Default Theme"

I went to C:\Users\S\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\LegacyCharting\
and this are the files in that directory:
data [Folder]
chart.info [INFO file]
chartnews [Text Document]
filescan [Spreadsheet]
LegacyCharting [Configuration Settings]
LegacyCharting8.lng [LNG file]
pcpricing [spreadsheet]
results [spreadsheet]

The spreadsheet files don't open---I get general input/output error.

Help?

Re: [LegacyUG] Run-time error 3021. No current record.

2015-06-10 Thread Elizabeth Verchio

Since v8 I've had on and off problems
with a Run-time error which would cause the program to close.
I reported the problem several times over the past 7 months with
pretty much the same response/results as you have had, Cathy.
Finally, this week, Jairmie in Tech support gave me the steps to
completely remove Legacy software and all the files that also need
to be deleted, and then reload the program.  I finished that
yesterday at 5:08 PM - not another error, crash, freeze since.
True time will tell.  On Monday, I couldn't work more than 4
minutes without the error and crash.  I spend nearly 9 hours a day
working with Legacy Family Tree Software and have over 33,600
individuals with lots of photos, documentation, etc..  I use a lot
of the features, but and aware there are many I have not even
  touched.  Anyway,
If you still have the email with your ticket number, you might
want to click the link "View this Ticket Online" and write another
comment about the continuing problem, what you have done and how
  it continues to occur.
As we all will agree, Legacy Family Software is very complicated
and for the price we get a lot of functionality.
Legacy Family Software has a great development and support team
and I totally appreciate them and all they do to continue to
improve the product as well as to support us users.
So, hopefully something here helps, and good luck,

problem I have is not caused by having edited the sentence
  definitions.

I have reported this problem to Support several times and
they seem to think telling me to run File Maintenance is an
adequate response. Running File Maintenance usually makes
the problem go away for a while, then it comes back. If it
happened once a month, I could live with it, but I don't
seem to be able to go more than a few hours using Legacy
without it occurring. It's not just with one file, or an old
file either: it occurs on many different files, and has
occurred within half an hour of starting a new, empty file.

Thanks for your interest and input!

The Event Sentence Definitions you show are the Legacy
Default sentences.

However, your use of the Description field suggests you need
to edit the
sentences.
I edit them as I mainly have UK censuses and put the head of
household
in the Description field. I have a separate events for the
few US and
Canadian censuses I have.

That wouldn't cause the error though.

I can't recall if you said the error keeps returning if you
export to a
new file or only when you just do a check/repair.

Many people work with their family file in a non default
position
without encountering this error.

Why don't you work with Support direct since this is a
persistent error
for you but not for others?

We've learned what the issue is. In May, AOL released a new update of their

the case with the webinar links. The solution is to upgrade to the latest AOL

[LegacyUG] TMG direct import

2015-06-10 Thread Bob Adams

I responded to the message shown below volunteering to test a direct
import of TMG data into Legacy. I never received a response and have
not seen any further information regarding a TMG direct import.

Is the development of a direct import still in progress or has the
project been cancelled?

Re: [LegacyUG] Run-time error 3021. No current record.

2015-06-10 Thread Forefathers Research
Hello Cathy.

Yes, I do usually edit the sentences before generating reports. I just
haven't got to this point with this project yet. And this did at least show
(I think) that the problem I have is not caused by having edited the
sentence definitions.

I have reported this problem to Support several times and they seem to
think telling me to run File Maintenance is an adequate response. Running
File Maintenance usually makes the problem go away for a while, then it
comes back. If it happened once a month, I could live with it, but I don't
seem to be able to go more than a few hours using Legacy without it
occurring. It's not just with one file, or an old file either: it occurs on
many different files, and has occurred within half an hour of starting a
new, empty file.

Thanks for your interest and input!

Pete

Re: [LegacyUG] Run-time error 3021. No current record.

2015-06-10 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Pete,

I'm not Sherry but a comment or two which may or may not be related.

The Event Sentence Definitions you show are the Legacy Default sentences.

However, your use of the Description field suggests you need to edit the
sentences.
I edit them as I mainly have UK censuses and put the head of household
in the Description field. I have a separate events for the few US and
Canadian censuses I have.

That wouldn't cause the error though.

I can't recall if you said the error keeps returning if you export to a
new file or only when you just do a check/repair.

Many people work with their family file in a non default position
without encountering this error.

Why don't you work with Support direct since this is a persistent error
for you but not for others?

Cathy

Re: [LegacyUG] Run-time error 3021. No current record.

2015-06-10 Thread Forefathers Research
Hello Sherry.

I've been unwell for the last week, so not doing a great deal of work in
Legacy, but have just had the crash again, when entering a census entry as
an event. See screen print here:
 Legacy crash 2015-06-10.JPG

As always, it occurred when pressing tab to move from the "Date" field to
the "Place" field.

I ran File Maintenance. This is the error log produced, which is always the
same:

 Legacy Error 2015-06-10.Log

Here is the definition of the Census event.

 Census Event.JPG

Please let me know if you see anything wrong here or if there is anything
else you would like me to do to try to help diagnose the problem.

Could it be in some way connected to the fact that I store my Legacy
database files in a folder specific to each client, rather than in Legacy's
default location?

Thanks

Pete
