Re: [LegacyUG] Getting RG78 series numbers from Ancestry.com

2015-08-17 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Tony,

As far as I know, you can't.

However, the full reference doesn't appear to be needed for someone to
find the entry again. Apparently Ancestry is right that you just need
the RG14 piece number and the household schedule number.
Just leave the RG78 blank.

I'm not in a position to drop one subscription or the other. Both have
databases that are vital to my research that the other doesn't have.

Bob, the 1911 census is referenced differently from the other UK
censuses because what has been kept are the householder schedules which
were destroyed for other censuses. The enumerator for other censuses
copied the whole of the householder schedule to his book. In 1911 the
enumerator's Census Summary Book only has the head of households name.
So there are two series numbers for the 1911 census. RG14 and RG78

RE: [LegacyUG] Getting RG78 series numbers from Ancestry.com

2015-08-17 Thread Bob Austen
Hi Tony,

Ancestry includes a RG # in the 'Source Citation' usually below the transcribed
data - such as:

1911 England Census
Source Citation: Class: RG14; Piece: 4269; Schedule Number: 122

Is this the 'RG#' you are looking for or is the RG78 number a specific one?

Subject: [LegacyUG] Getting RG78 series numbers from Ancestry.com

I had been using Find My Past for 1911 UK census data and they included the
RG78 Series number as part of the detail information. I've let my FMP
subscription lapse since Ancestry now have the 1911 information, but Ancestry
doesn't include the RG78 number anywhere that I can find.

Legacy8 has a field for that number in the 1911 census source, so can anyone
explain how to get it from the Ancestry data, or is there a cross-reference
anywhere which links the RG14, RD, RS and ED numbers to the RG78 number

Thanks

Tony

[LegacyUG] Images attached to Legacy

2015-08-17 Thread Kirstin
My problem started one day with not being able to open the Picture
Center. I kept getting Error 3024 and then my Legacy would freeze and
crash. I follow the directions on the troubleshooting web site. I
deleted all the PicList.dbm files and the Legacy3.dbm file. Rebooted the
computer, ran check/repair. Still having the same problem. So I follow
the advice of the last instruction and changed the name of the main file
where I keep my images. Big mistake. So that still didn't fix the
problem. I then noticed that the error message said it couldn't find my
Legacy3.dbm file. And in fact I couldn't find it either. So I downloaded
and reinstalled and uninstalled Legacy several times. Still no
Legacy3.dbm file. So finally I deleted the entire DBM folder and
reinstalled. Problems solved! Or so I thought. So now Legacy tells me
that it can't find the images. I thought I could link one and it would
find the rest. Nope. Legacy keeps insisting I have 2 copies of each
image and wants to know which one it should link to. But I have only one
copy. I checked. So I have been going through one by one and choosing
"This is the Correct File. Link to this one." But I have over 66,000
links, mostly grave stone images and census images. So going through and
re-linking each one will be impossible. And I've already gone too far to
rename the folder back to the original name since I have already
re-linked hundreds and don't want to have to start over.

Re: [LegacyUG] Unsupported File Format revisited

2015-08-17 Thread marion wimsett
Hi Brian,
Well it's certainly one idea - sadly doesn't apply in my case as I was not
adding the media in question - it was already supposed to be there, all I
was trying to do was to get it to relink.
I have now re-attached nearly all of the photos - there has to have been
something in the path name that Legacy took exception to as changing the
file name in one way or another and re-linking again seems to have solved
the problem, The only other oddity was the fact that two of the files
showed up with #Recycle in their name - I have no idea as to where that
came from as the photos all appeared in Reunion and were just transferred
over to my computer for Legacy!
As they say - more things in heaven and earth etc.
Glad at least you figured out one of the reasons.
Cheers,
Marion

I discovered a long time ago that Legacy doesn't like it if you don't
include the filename extension when trying to open a file.

I use FreeClip a lot and often have, for example, the reference for a UK
Census stored there for pasting into Legacy, eg RG9-2604-89-20. If I
paste that into the filename box to pen that file Legacy will give me
the "not supported" message. I have to select the full filename -
RG9-2604-89-20.jpg - which will appear underneath.

Agree with you, there.
