RE: [LegacyUG] Why don't I receive emails?

I don’t receive emails either, but I think it is a good thing! I can access
the Mail Archives at my leisure to read all new emails, and I don’t have to
deal with dozens in my inbox. I can also correspond with the Usergroup if
needed. A win, win in my mind! Laurel

Have you checked your email provider to see if they are being blocked there?
There is a junk filter at most email servers.

Who knows? This is an ongoing problem that Legacy cannot seem to fix. Legacy
likes whoever it is who runs this list for them, so every time it happens, you
just need to contact Legacy and have them resubscribe you themselves. Go figure.

I had the same problem here and also tried a re-subscribe, no joy.
A short fill out of a trouble ticket, support manually reset the subscription
and that took care of it.

I don't see how this is more time-consuming. If your master source is set
up for the Family Search information, then you simply choose your master
source and click on the details button where you put in the specifics of
the info you have found - the "actual citation that you want". You only
have to create the master source once and then reuse it time and again.

[LegacyUG] Correction of a major mistake - advice welcome please !!!!

2015-11-17 Thread William Hudson
I have discovered a significant mistake in the 17th - 18th century
genealogy of one of my ancestral lines. The good news is that I have been
able to locate reliable documentary evidence that corrects the problem.
Rather than try to monkey around with my existing Legacy database (and risk
getting into a hopeless mess), I was planning to (a) make a copy of my
existing file and keep it (as some of the data might be useful later but
not yet a proven relationship to me). (b) on one of the two files, I will
completely delete all names known to be erroneous and then reenter all the
correct data. Not as awful as it might sound. Any thoughts?

I realise that, but to me any database is the more credible if it
includes Sources. I am endeavouring to include Sources with all the
information I upload to FamilyTree and when I am looking at the
possibility of downloading information from FT, I am happier if there is
a valid Source.

Sorry, can't make sense of that sentence.
While it is true that you can't

In the Legacy FT window I only see Name, Gender, Birth, Chr, Death,
Burial. The options for attaching in Legacy are Person (Unspecified),
Name, Birth, Christening, Death. No mention of relationships.

I don't see what that has to do with whether or not one can Source a
Marriage. (Or a non-marriage relationship, come that.)

FS does not "require" sources for any event. They allow you to add (tag)
sources to events. For the marriage event you can add a source under the
relationship box. It is different than tagging the event to the source.

Does anyone know WHY FS doesn't require Sources for marriages? What's to stop
people adding marriages where they have little or no proof that such a marriage

Because someone there is little to no proof that a marriage took place when
a marriage did in fact take place. While it is true that you can't link a
source to a marriage you can link a source to a relationship. FamilySearch
FamilyTree is designed to be a living tree that changes.

Does anyone know WHY FS doesn't require Sources for marriages? What's
to stop people adding marriages where they have little or no proof that
such a marriage took place?

I have found this useful for information like birth or baptism. In the case
of marriages, however, it is not always clear where the information should be
attached.

On the Legacy FamilySearch screen click on the Sources tab. Next (on
the left) to each Source listed there is a little arrow. For each
Source you want to download, click on that arrow and you will get a
screen which shows the Source and allows you to select to which Fields
you want to attach it.

I don't see your problem. You are, in effect, downloading a Source from
a database (FS FamilyTree) and the imported Source is in the standard
format for a database. It states precisely which database and where and
then indicates from where the information was derived.

Are you suggesting that everything rrom "The Church ..." to
"...familysearch.org)" should be omitted? This would not be accurate:
you are not getting your information from the original Source but via a
third party.
