Thanks Cathy,

I was pleased to see your response, I was wondering what to do next.

Should I put my hand up to test run the beta version, or just sit on my
hands for the upcoming fix ?

If the fix isn't that far away then I'd be content to wait, however I've
just stumbled across a like minded researcher in the UK, who is
researching the exact same family, and after many years it is
frustrating to not be able to send off a Family Group sheet.

Thanks anyway Cathy

This is a known problem and another update with a fix is expected soon.
It's now fixed in the Beta version.

I've just upgraded to version 9.0.0.269 and after all these years using
Legacy I have my first problems with the program.

I want to create a Family Group sheet and after clicking Create Pdf I
get an error stating: /Individual "4091" not Found.  /I just checked,
and there is no RIN 4091 at all in my database, and more importantly
none with this number in the Group Sheet I want to create. Then another
Error: /Marriage not Found/.

Thinking I'd do a File Maintenance >> Check/Repair and it found nothing,
then trying the same Family Group generation again, I get the same error
result, and the Report won't generate.

I've done a potential problems report, and nothing there about a problem
with RINs !

As far as the error /Marriage not Found,/ from what I can see it
concerns MRIN 4317 and to the best of my knowledge I can see no issue
with the marriage entry, and the MRIN displays correctly at the bottom
of the screen.

My first thought is that I want to ditch 9.0.0.269 and go back one
previous version, so could someone please tell me where I can download
this, and is it a simple step of just installing over this newer version ?

Thanks

David in Hobart

Re: [LegacyUG] Merging files - " to be merged " getting bigger ??

2018-12-29 Thread Cathy Pinner
Gender isn't always rightly assigned. I have an ancestor Francis Guppy.
I would want to consider whether a Frances Guppy may be the same person
even if one was marked male and one female.

abt 1860 isn't an exact date.

it's best to use default settings in merge until you understand them
better and then vary them as you like.

It's all to do with how careful you want to be.

Still having problems. These are some of the comments I am getting:

*merging: left is different sex to right - these are two totally
different people so why were they brought up to be merged ?

* missing birth/christening dates or dates are not exact - both had -
Abt 1860 so why did they come up to be merged ?

* does one select all the settings in the " Normal Duplicate Search "
page.

Hi Valerie,

1.  The number of 'duplicates' has increased, because those merges
you've done have enabled Legacy to see more people who might be
duplicates, and have added them to the list for you to consider.

3.  The total number of people has decreased (2594 + 2540 = 5134)
because you have made some merges already.

Hope this helps.  :-)

1. I have created a new file and imported 2594 people and then
imported another 2540 from another file and started the merge process.
I used all the settings as suggested. Now I have started the merge and
as I say " merge right into left  " the number of merges still to be
done have gone from 69 dulicates to 479. WHY ??

2. Also I can see that one of the problems is age at death so I want
to not use this criteria anymore but I cannot get back into the
beginning settings to delete this age at death problem

3. I now have 4945 people

This error can result from hinting if hints have been sent for and
you've merged or deleted the person before the hints return.

However it has some other causes as well, not all of which are well defined.

This often occurs after importing GEDcoms from sites such as Ancestry,
Family Search, etc.

If you have the Deluxe Edition, go to Tools > Renumber RINs.

If you have the Standard Edition, go to File > Export To > Legacy file
and export to a new file. Make sure you select the option to renumber
the RINs.

You can also run File Maintenance - Check/Repair. Click on File> File
Maintenance > Check/Repair and follow the prompts.

If the error messages occur during the Check/Repair process, click No to
continue with the repair. Do step 2 twice if errors are found."

Re: [LegacyUG] updating to latest version

2018-12-29 Thread Chris Hill

Hi Cathy

I agree that the correct way to update is through the built-in link. But
if you cannot get that far because it won't load, then you have to
download it directly from the web site. But that was as the last option
you can do.

Regards

Chris

Sheila,

The most probable reason is that your security software has blocked
Legacy.
For some reason just reinstalling Legacy seems to work - the second
time the security software lets it through. Who knows why?
Here's as article if you need to actually add exceptions to your
security software.

Chris,
The normal way to update Legacy Deluxe is to use the link on the Legacy
Home tab in the Update box.
