Henry,

I just need a copy of version 9. I want to install it so I can test it with
my programs that read/write GEDCOM files.

I've got the link now. Thanks!

Subject: [LegacyUG] Download email?

Today I attempted to download the free version of Legacy v9. I have a
license for Legacy v8 Deluxe, but have not yet downloaded/installed Legacy
9.

I submitted my email address and name, responded to the "captcha" form, and
got a page that said I should check my email. The message hasn't arrived and
it's been about hours.

After about a half-hour, I thought I should resubmit. I used a Gmail address
in my original attempt, and I used the "+suffix" trick of appending text to
the "real" address to track how the email address is used by the company
that requests it. So, "exam...@gmail.com" can also be reached via
"example+leg...@gmail.com". I dropped the suffix in case the Legacy mail
system doesn't handle the suffix, which I have found to be the case with
some systems.

That was about 4.5 hours ago. No response yet.

About 30 minutes ago, I submitted for a third time and used an email address
that is not associated with Gmail. No response to that one yet.

How long should I wait before assuming that the process just doesn't work?
Has anyone else had trouble with this?

John

Re: [LegacyUG] Big Problem

2019-05-23 Thread Brian Kelly
I am one of the lucky ones who has not had the problem, even though I do
have Hints turned on for MyHeritage, FamilySearch and FindMyPast.

My suggestions were based on messages to this list, the Facebook User
group, as well as some conversations on the Beta Test list where
solutions to the Hints problem were discussed.

I hope my suggestion has permanently fixed your issue with these error
messages.

My problem(s) seem to be fixed but I want to make sure.

When the hints window started popping up all the time I went to the
troubleshooting help and did what was in helpdeleting and
reinstallingand then I had TWO windows that popped up every time I
clicked on something (the hints window and do I want to allow Mellennia to make
changes on my computer). After unchecking Hints like you suggested, both of
those windows do not come up. Are both windows tied to Hints or do I have
another issue lurking in the background waiting to pop out?

Thank you all for your help

Instead of removing the check box from the options screen in Options > Customize >
View (not General as you said in your message) > Section 8.13, click on the Select
Background Hints button and remove the check marks from all the hint sources
(MyHeritage.com, FamilySearch, FindMyPast.com and GenealogyBank).
Save that screen and you should see that the check box on Setting 8.13 is also
off.
Save your options and you should not get the hints and they should stay off
when you reopen Legacy.

PS the hints not working message problem has be tracked down to MyHeritage.com
hints. If you just turn off that hint source you should not get the problem
with Hints has stopped working but hints from the other sources will still
appear.

Hi Rita,

Open Legacy & get the error message box, I clicked the X in upper
right corner of message box, then immediately went to customize
options, and general, and removed the check mark from "show hints" and
then click 'save' at the bottom of the screen.

Some of my selections on customize options do not save, and the hints
is one of them, so I have to do this each time I open Legacy. I'm
hoping that this problem is fixed on the next update.

Please help. I was having a problem with the hints window popping

the troubleshooting section on the website and deleted the Legacy9
folder and tried to reinstall the program. Now things are much
worse. After the install I got the message that Legcy 9 has been
installed successful. But as the program opens I get another
message that says “Do you want to let Mellennia make changes to your
computer”, I click yes and the Hints has stopped working window pops
up again. Now anything I click on within Legacy both of those
messages pop up, each time I click on something.

Please help, what do I do
