Re: [LegacyUG] Mass deleting entries

2019-07-22 Thread aj.rudge
Robert.

Two ways:

1. Unlink them from your from their families so keeping them in your
database.
2. Tag the ones you want deleted an then delete them.

Either way you need to spend time making sure you unlink or delete the correct
ones.

Cheers

Subject: [LegacyUG] Mass deleting entries

Hello

I hope that you can help me on this. I have 1,000's + of entries that I did not
enter in my tree. How do I delete masses of these people? My tree consist of
27,000+ people and about 3,000+ are wrong. My DNA shows that I am 100% french
and these entries are English and whatever.

How can I delete these people without deleting relatives sprinkled among them?
Thank you for your time.

Re: [LegacyUG] Mass deleting entries

2019-07-22 Thread Cathy Pinner

Firstly,
I wouldn't delete them based on ethnicity estimates from DNA. These are
always being adjusted. Also people in the past moved from France to
England and back just as they do now. I would think it was extremely
difficult to decide from DNA who definitely didn't belong to your family
based on ethnicity of French or English. Ethnicity estimates go back
centuries.

However, if you want to remove people go to View - Trees and click
Refresh if you've been there before. Before you get there check which
tags you have clear.
Now you'll see if you have any islands of people that aren't connected
to your main tree. Examine each island - you can tag the people in an
island to take a look at them in the Name List/Search List. Open the
Name List and click the Search button and choose Show all tagged #.
If you decide you don't want that group in your tree, go to Tools -
Advanced Deleting after making a backup of the file and use that to
delete everyone with a particular tag #.

If you are wanting to remove branches of the main tree, then you may
want to find and unlink them so that they now form an island and can be
dealt with as above.

One way to find people in your tree that aren't related is to Set
Relationships (Tools - Set Relationships) and then go to Search > Find >
Detailed Search tab and search for

Individual - Relationship -  equal to - Unrelated
But I wouldn't just tag and delete them all. Some may be crucial for
linking some of the related people or at least their spouses ...
In-laws and step children etc don't get a relationship. It just gives
you a place to start.

If you are using Advanced Deleting, do make sure you make and keep
backups. You never know when you'll regret that deletion and it's also
very easy if you're doing it from tagging a search to have unexpected
results.

Re: [LegacyUG] Relationship (e.g. Brother) displayed above individual

2019-07-22 Thread Andrew Robbie
See my recent reply on this topic. If you do not enable it then strange things
will happen (like the relationship shown (OK it will be blank, but tooltip
survives) above the individual will still point to one set in a previously
opened Legacy data file - like the Legacy Sample one I did ).

You do not need to enable it but you do have to create those relationships by
going to Tools > Set Relationships. Generally people use themselves as the
starting person but you can choose anyone in your file as the origin of the
calculation.
