Thank you for giving the computer reasoning and information. It helps me a
lot in trying to understand this computer's operation.

Re: [LegacyUG] Saving Photos

2020-02-03 Thread Ian Thomas
I think it would be better to use the free program Irfanview to rotate your
images. This will save your image file in its rotated aspect onto your computer
disk. I suspect Photoshop Elements is just tweaking the EXIF tags in the
images.

There are "internal" signals within images (JPG, others) that tell a viewer how
to rotate without altering the the on-disk file itself. This is what is meant
by EXIF tags.

The EXIF (exchangeable image file format) standard specifies a set of tags that
can be embedded in images (among other things). One of these tags specifies the
orientation of the photo, and has 8 possible values which cover every possible
combination of rotation and mirroring of an image. This enables you to take a
picture with your camera sideways or upside-down (or even inside-out), and
stand a reasonable chance of having it display properly on your computer.

Hi All
I obtain a photo from a website which when I first see it, is lying on it's
side, I save it to my Photo Program "Photoshop Elements". From where I correct
the photo and save it to my Album "Genealogy Photos". I then go into Legacy and
upload the photo to the name of the person who the photo relates to, but when
it appears, it is on it's side again, I rotate the photo until it is correct
and then "Save As". All is well until I "Close" the file containing the Photo
when it falls over on it's side again. Please, what am I doing or not doing?

Regards
Trevor

Re: [LegacyUG] Announcement from the staff

2020-02-03 Thread Michele Lewis
All is well. It had nothing to do with a Windows update per se. We updated our
Windows security certificates and that can cause antivirus programs to flag the
program as a problem because they don’t recognize the updated certificates
right away.

If you make sure that all Windows programs are shut down before you install,
and you RIGHT click the installation file and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR chances are
your antivirus will let it pass the first time. If you are installing through
the program just make sure you have all other Windows programs shut down. This
avoids the DLL error that some were getting.

If your antivirus still gives you a warning simply add the Legacy installation
file as an exception to your antivirus.

Hi everyone

Just wondering how to update Legacy without issue. It seems there are a few
problems.

Does anyone know if Microsoft has done the update as mentioned in the email
below?

Do I need to run the update from the legacy tab. Close down anti virus and any
other windows open? Will this be ok or are there still issues.

I would appreciate guidance with this update.

Many thanks

Gwen

Why the rush?

There is a major Microsoft update, varying push dates, that will install
automatically no matter what.

IT experts recommend waiting until AFTER the update because it will change so
many things.

What doom awaits tomorrow, the 26th?

[LegacyUG] Legacy User Group Monthly Reminder

2020-02-03 Thread Michele Lewis
Legacy User Group Monthly Reminder

* Please help us keep the Legacy User Group Email List friendly, helpful,
and fun.

* We do not allow attachments or embedded images because we have users that
are on dial up or have metered connections. Also, please send your emails
using plain text. Some users are using email clients that can't "see" HTML
or RichText so they end up with garbled emails.

* Please create a new email to legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com to start a
new thread (topic). DO NOT just hit Reply and change the Subject line. When
replying to an ongoing conversation, please trim your messages so that only
the most current earlier responses are included.

* Please keep the conversation confined to the Legacy program and to the
add-ons that work with Legacy. Since we have a direct sync to FamilySearch,
FamilySearch questions are usually fair game. You can post questions about
MyHeritage if your question relates to Legacy in some way. If you are having
a problem with MyHeritage please email their tech support at
supp...@myheritage.com.

* We do not allow bashing of ANY genealogy software programs or ANY
genealogy websites.

* Several Legacy staff members and beta testers monitor this list and they
may advise you to email supp...@legacyfamilytree.com for more complex
technical support issues or ask you to send enhancement requests here
https://legacyfamilytree.com/Suggest.asp The LUG email list is more for "How
do I... in Legacy?" and for tips that will help other users.

* Keep up to date with what's going on at Legacy by subscribing to our
newsletter at https://legacyfamilytree.com/subscribe.asp. You can also click
over to the Legacy Home tab to see hot links to all of the latest news
articles and announcements in Legacy itself.

* Don't forget that you can also join the Legacy User Group Facebook page
for even more interaction with the staff, beta testers, translators, and
other users https://www.facebook.com/groups/LegacyUserGroup/

* If you ever want to unsubscribe from the LUG email list, there is a link
at the bottom of every email that you can use
