[LegacyUG] Re slow starts

2023-11-15 Thread Ian Macaulay
Win 11 may be the problem. When you start legacy from a reboot there are
all kinds of background services running they take time and can slow down
an opening.
Does this happen from a cold or when the computer has been running a while?

There seems to be with win 11, more jobs completed in the background than
previous loads.
I often get the cmd windows flashing after the legacy splash page has come
up.

Just guessing, No claim to knowledge

I have a date problem, Legacy crashes the first time I ask for a date
search each session. But works fine on the second program boot.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy slow to start

2023-11-15 Thread Anne Hildrum
Not so surprising they have problems solving it when it is only some people
having that problem.

I have an 11 year old Dell computer with 32 Gb Ram and have 63 people in
the file.
I do however ran Windows 10.
Legacy starts instantly for me whether I use V9 or V9.5

So far there isn't a repair, so for the moment a work around doesn't exist.

Thanks though Jenny for the response.

I don't recall seeing anyone mention a solid state drive which will also
help.

Hi David,

With a new desktop with the specs you have indicated, updating RAM to 64GB
would give you almost instant opening of programs, as most recent memory is
held in RAM for faster access.

I have a six-year-old home-built desktop with slightly older specs, but have
64 GB Ram, My legacy file is just over 10,000 individuals and have My
Heritage, FTM, numerous Word and Excel documents loading and running
simultaneously every day with no problems loading any program at first start
of day.

2023-11-15 Thread hpeterjr
David
I have 1 PC with Windows 11 Pro Version 23H2
Intel i5-8250U @1.60 Ghz.
8.00GB RAM

Legacy startup times for me
16.6 seconds (without Onedrive installed)
38.2 seconds (with Onedrive installed)

So apps that run in the background slow down your computer. (Just my
experience)
Conclusion: Consult Legacy support, they may have a recommendation.

Kind regards

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy slow to start

2023-11-15 Thread Brian Kelly

Some things that can affect the speed with which Legacy opens a file:

Hard Drive speed versus size of your file and media files; (your SSD
should not be a problem here) but if you are opening Legacy or images on
an external drive it could be an issue

Images and their size large images will slow down Legacy display

Are Hints turned on? getting hints may slow the opening

Same with Potential Problems
