Re: [LegacyUG] Research Notes

Kathy,

Please add me to your list. Although, it's too late to help, I've been
tasked with teaching a class on this topic for our local LUG group and have
spent some time researching this list for ideas. I'm at a distinct
disadvantage, having never made use of this Legacy resource so whatever
your request turns up be will useful in the future.

Re: [LegacyUG] Transitioning to Legacy from Family Tree Maker

2011-02-23 Thread Bill Paulson
Paul,

In going back to FTM 2008, I discovered a deeper problem that I may
need to remedy before deciding what to do about the issue in my
original post. When I upgraded from an earlier version of FTM (I don't
remember which version) to FTM 2008, I failed to properly link the
media files before discontinuing work on my family tree. That was two+
years ago. When I returned recently, I was exposed to Legacy and
decided to convert. Fortunately, my database is reletively small (750
individuals) as is the media file (178 items).

In the process of following your advice, I discovered a more complete
version (names rather than just numbers) of FTM media that I may just
link to manually when time allows. In any case, looks like I've got
more work to do to complete the conversion process. Thanks for the
advice.

Doing as you've suggested brings up a list of 10 identified paths.
Should I list them all on list or send you the list in a separate

[LegacyUG] Transitioning to Legacy from Family Tree Maker

2011-02-22 Thread Bill Paulson
I'm a new Legacy user making the transition from FTM 2008. I have
Legacy v. 7.5.0.56 installed on a desktop running Windows XP, SP 3 and
on a laptop running Windows 7. The transition via Gedcom was seemingly
uneventful, however, none of the census images, photos or other
miscellaneous documents were placed in Legacy's default folder, i.e.
C:Legacy>Pictures; but, are instead included in sub-folders within
C:Legacy>Paulson Family Tree multimedia

Based on conversations with another Legacy User (I'm a member of a
local Legacy User Group), I'm about ready to conclude that to take
full advantage of all the features available in Legacy, I need to move
the contents of the Paulson Family Tree multimedia folder described
above to C:Legacy>Pictures. I need assurance that my conclusion is
correct and, if so, could I "click and drag" the entire folder
(including the sub-folders contained therein) from their current
location to C:Legacy>Pictures; or, is there a better way? Are there
any unforeseen consequences I need to be aware of?

Any guidance fellow list users provide will be most appreciated.
