[LegacyUG] Media Gallery - Copy & Paste version 8.0.0.439
Hi All, Before the 8.0.0.439 update, it was possible to use the copy and paste function in the Media Gallery for individual and the source clipboard. By right-clicking on an image one can copy it and then move to another Gallery and paste it on the empty space. It still works but only if the Media Gallery is not empty. In an empty Gallery it does not work anymore. No menu appears when I right-click. When I add a random picture however, it is once more possible to right-click and get a menu with all the copy-paste options. Anyone else have the same problem? RE: [LegacyUG] Footer in Reports -- How to retain edits?
Hi Cathy Once you have set your report options and returned to the 'Select a Report' window, you can use the 'Save' button on the right bottom of the window (under Report Settings) to save your settings. You can save different setting each with its own file name and the use the 'Load' button to retrieve your settings. Dear Fellow LUGers, Whenever I produce a report in Legacy - whether as a PDF file for emailing or on paper for printing, I include my Compiler's Information in the Footer. The report options show the words "Precede with: Produced by: . . ." [example #1] The wording of "Produced by" is very confusing and misleading especially when the next option "Report Credit Information" also includes the default words "Produced by Legacy." [example #2] Now I don't mind including the example #2 shown above but when both examples are included with the wording "Produced by" then the footer becomes very confusing. So, in example #1 above I usually replace the default words with "Researched and Compiled by" followed by the compiler information. However, these replacement words are **not** retained in my program. How can I get the wording that I want to remain so that I don't have to edit the options every time I prepare a report? I welcome your suggestions. [LegacyUG] Page setup - printing notes
Hello Groupies, Lately I've been busy printing notes, especially birth and baptism notes. They can be accessed from the individual's editing window and then clicking on the plus (+) sign next to the 'born' or 'bapt' field, but the my problem is also true for general, research and medical notes. I use A4 paper (European) and need a left margin of at least 1.5 cm (centimeters for our non-European/Oceania listers) to punch holes in the paper for my filing system. When one chooses the print options for a (any) note, a window 'Print Notes Option' appears. One of these options is 'Page Setup' where one can adjust margins, paper size, etc. The standard value for the left margin is 1.25 cm. I change this value to my preferred value of 1.5 cm, no problem, but I have not found a way to save my preference. This means that every time I print a note, I have to adjust this setting. RE: [LegacyUG] Indiv "never married" option unavailable
Hello Pat, In the main window of Legacy, check the status bar where you should see the RIN and MRIN for that individual. The 'H:' and the 'M:' should have blank entries leaving only the 'W: ' with a number. If 'M:' has a number next ot it, it means there is a marriage created for your female. To remove it, press 'CTRL+M' or select 'Marriage List' from the view menu. A new window containing a marriage list should appear and the offending marriage should be selected in blue. Check to see if the MRIN number on the left corresponds with the number next to the 'M:' on the status bar. If they do you can delete this marriage link by selecting the 'Options' at the bottom of the marriage list and then selecting 'Remove the marriage link'. Once this has been done you can open the individuals editing screen and the never married option should be available. Remember however, should you in the future ever choose any of the icons on the marriage info bar, like say the 'marriage notes', 'marriage sources' or 'marriage pictures, sounds and video', a new marriage link is created and the 'never married, had no children' option will once again be grayed and non-selectable even though no husband was added. Even if you did not save or add anything, a new marriage link WILL be created. So be careful to not add a marriage note for example to explain that she was never married. RE: [LegacyUG] Locations - Extra comma's
Hello Anne, I don't think your idea will work for me. I need a Gedcom file that is not corrupted and I don't think 'Word' will respect the format once it saves the document. However, your idea did inspire me to try a something else. Using a hex-editor, in my case Notepad++, I did the search and replace thing (twice), and saved the file, uploaded and imported it to my website application and voilà, it seems to have worked. There were no reported errors during the import, and the places are now formatted without extra comma's and spaces, and can be viewed correctly in the google-maps extension on my website. It's not an ideal solution, but it works. I will have to wait and see if there are any obvious errors on my website, especially as I have a large amount of notes and events/facts that may have been affected. In any case, thanks for the tip and inspiration and enjoy sunny Melbourne. RE: [LegacyUG] Locations - Extra comma's
Hello List, I've been following Lloyd's 'Locations' thread and have a related question that has been troubling me for a long time. I did not want to hijack Lloyd's thread, so I altered the subject. Soon after I started using Legacy (version 5), I decided to use Legacy's recommended 4 position format for locations (probably to make the life of programmers easier when writing search routines). Even though I have hardly any US-based persons in my database - most are from continental Europe and South Africa - I have stuck to this format and populated my database with thousands of 4 position, comma separated locations. I don't want to discuss whether this is correct or not; this subject has been discussed to the point of tears over the years on this list, so let's not get into that again. So here's my problem: I want to export parts of my database to a Gedcom format for publication purposes but I definitely don't want the leading spaces and the in-between spaces with commas in my Gedcom file. i.e.: I want the locations to be converted from 4 position locations to locations with the blanks removed, for example: - Essen, , Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany > Essen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany (3) - Richmond, , Cape Colony, South Africa > Richmond, Cape Colony, South Africa (3) - Richmond, , Northern Cape, South Africa > Richmond, Northern Cape, South Africa (3) Filled-in positions should however be left unaltered, for example: - Syferbult Station, district of Koster, Transvaal, South Africa (4) - "Rietfontein", Voor Baviaanskloof, Willowmore, Cape Colony, South Africa (5) - Meschede, Kurfürstentum Köln, Niederheinisch-Westfälischer Reichskreis, Germany (4) I've tried all options exporting files, but could not find any option to remove these offending spaces and comma's. Does Legacy have some 'hidden' option to do this? If 'no' does someone know of a conversion program? Please don't recommend changing all my place names in Legacy, because it's not an option for me. (Ron & Mike:)) Any (other) idea is welcome. RE: [LegacyUG] Template for cemetery book?
Hello Paula, You are on the right track. To cite conform EE 5.21, use: "Books > Book, authored > Author known > Basic format" if the book is authored by individuals (of the genealogical society) and published by the genealogical society. "Books > Book, authored > Authored by an agency > Basic format" if the genealogical society is the only author and publisher. In both cases the publisher does not necessarily have to the genealogical society. To complete the citation, add the volume (if applicable) and page number(s) in the details section. The page number can, and probably should, be followed by a comma and then the details as shown in the example in EE 5.21. The actual text from the book is transcribed in the text/comments section of the source detail. I've also tried using the 'Sort marriages by date' option in Dennis' Ltools, but I see not effect once I've sorted all marriages.
