[LegacyUG] Event Report - to NOT include
Hoping some savvy Legacy user can assist me as I set up Individual Group Record to set up as a .pdf. Under the Event Report I want to block/not include the names and email addresses for those I want to keep private. I did enter them with the event title of 'descendant' and in the next column I have listed (this is how I would have m myself listed: 'descendant' and Cynthia Russell [[fergusresearc...@gmail.com]] It would show up only as 'descendant' and Cynthia Russell (the double brackets keep the email blank), but it does give my name. I do not want any names showing as it would be confusing to many. Can you tell me the baby steps to do that? Keeping my fingers crossed!I have promised my 19,500+ that I will never divulge anyone's email as it is only for MY use. But I would like to do the columns without my name or email. How do I do that? [LegacyUG] Updating my Legacy program . . . help please
My interest in genealogy began when I was 17 years old and received an English assignment to write. My wise mother, also a teacher, sent me on my way on the elevated train to Chicago, only a 30 minute trip, to research at the prestigious Newberry Library . . . what a beginning! Now 65 years later I am still thoroughly enjoying knowing about my many family histories. I was self-taught, and, now after migrating through a number of genealogy programs I have kep up with Legacy's many moves too. But, now as I am considering retiring I want to leave my Legacy program in 'good order' to pass on to other family members. Hoping some members can give me simple, easy to follow steps to tidy up. Yes, I made up things as I went along hoping that down the road another insight might appear . . . now I want to clean it all up, please consider useful suggestions. As I researched I would add things such as the following, now I am wondering if I should just delete these items which truly do not have much of a connection: For instance: Unknown Russell, perhaps a date, perhaps not, or a place, I would make M or F, if known. I am no longer using UNKNOWN! But, would if be a good clean up to just delete all the people listed as Unknown, or leave a , and surname such as ", Russell". I'm inclined to just delete! [LegacyUG] Help to print Family Group Record generation by generation
I do not know what I am doing wrong. I have put together 10 generations of males to honor my mother's last first cousin's Celebration of Life. And, am I able to do a second list with the Title Pre. to sort and look to get a list of Pvt., Maj, Gen. I know I would have to do a separate list for each rank. [LegacyUG] ScreenShot?
I have a cousin who lives in Brazil and wants to work with me on our shared genealogy. I had the paid Legacy because I wanted the additional features. He has a free program titled "Gramps". I would like to take a screen shot showing 3 generations on one screen, or, is there another way to show that to him via email? I've never done a screenshot and will need instructions so I can send it as a .pdf or ??? Any assistance would be FABULOUS! [LegacyUG] RINs and MRINS
I definitely need to understand RINs and MRINs as I am getting ready to create a Descendant Report - 12 generations. I do not have any of these numbers on the names I have entered into my Legacy file. Obviously it is something that I did not set up. And, how to these RINs and MRINs work and what are they for. Re: [LegacyUG] Book Publishing - Ancestor Book, just beginning
Thank you Leon and Cathy for your suggestions. I will give a try to each of them to see what I like best. I am familiar with all of the Legacy reports, but I want to do the writing and sentences myself, so the Legacy Event SEntence formats will not be of use to me. I am a rather creative writer . . . I was hoping for a blank page upon which I would write in paragraphs and be able to number the footnotes for each chapter section. For example, I am going to start with: Military - the Revolutionary War my footnotes would be M.1 for Military, number 1, etc. Migration - Scotland to County Tyrone, Ireland (another chapter), notes would be M.1 Migration - County Tyrone, Ireland to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, notes would be M.2 etc. Over the years I have sourced my findings, but the format has varied as I have learned different things and I would like the footnotes to be consistent and correct for today's format. Even this wee discussion is helping me to think through my organization. I may only do two generations for this report as my patriot, Francis Fergus (1752-1841) and his wife had 9 children. One daughter died after her daughter was born, and the daughter did not reach full age, so no further ancestors from that line. But the other 8 have carried the line forward, and, I am in contact with descendants of ALL 8 children via e-mail, telephone, and mail! I know that is quite unusual, but that's what I've done. My genealogy start began with my high school English teacher who had assigned writing a paper about my heritage . . . my mother, also a teacher told me that I would need to get on the elevated to Chicago and go to the Newberry Library where I would find books about my family . . . and I went and I did. When I found my name in one of the books, I was 'hooked'. Nothing more until I had my own children and decided to help input information into the supplements. After traveling to Scotland and Ireland to walk the family lands, I decided to update the books my cousins had begun 90 years prior. I inherited about 2,300 names, all from my one patriot! I now have over 17,000 persons from that one patriot . . . descendants, spouses and children. Oh, yes, it has been a journey. About 10 years ago I joined the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) . . . now have 23 Revolutionary War Patriots, one being a woman! Can you tell, I like to write, as I speak? I'll give your suggestions my best efforts and may I keep in touch, questioning, reporting, etc.? Hoping someone will be able to assist me as I begin to write my first Legacy Ancestor Book. I have been researching for over 30 years and, I am now ready to get started with all of the sourced information I have accumlated both throughout the United States and abroad. My book will have various sections and I would like to begin and sourcing my patriot's Revolutionary War service. Not sure how to do footnotes for the passages I want to copy directly. I am a retired English teacher, so I am not asking how to do footnotes. I want to know if I should do my written portions in a Word document . . . and do I do my footnotes at the same time? Or is there a format within Legacy to accomplish that? Keeping my fingers crossed to find a patient, kind and knowledgeable person to assist me in answering my questions. I am not in any hurry to receive an answer, as I have a lot to accomplish, but, I also know that beginning correctly will enhance my willingness to continue to completion. Re: [LegacyUG] filing system for genealogy
Thank you to each of you who has replied to my query. Now I can think through which system to try. I have decided to scan and sort my numerous travel files to see how that works for me to find specific scans by how I have sorted, named and numbered them before trying my genealogy papers and files. I find that with Legacy I keep relevant documents on a jump drive that I back up to drop box. I sort by surname, then family Have a great day! The scanner I have purchased, an Epson GT-S50 which uses the Nuance Paper Port 11. I don't have any question about the scanner or program, but about how to organize my papers so that I will e able to find each page I scan. Yes, this is an organizational question! I am open to all suggestions to find one that will suit me best. I am 74 years young and I do struggle with electronics as I was not born with any pc genes, as my grandchildren seem to have:) If there are earlier discussion on this subject, please advise so that information is not repeated, or please e-mail me directly to: fergusresearc...@gmail.com Thanking you in advance!
