Re: [LegacyUG] appending sources
If Legacy features are just too complicated for some folks. The answer is NOT to dumb down Legacy too the lowest level. The answer is create options to turn off features. This will make simpler Legacy so it will not be just too complicated for some folks. I have read many times in this user group that folks love the feature richness of Legacy. Dumbing down feature sets is NOT the way to meet Legacy goal of We are changing the world of genealogy! I have choosing and paid for Legacy because it is complicated or feature rich. I do not expect great features to be removed. Please restore what I have paid for. Re: [LegacyUG] connecting a couple together?
In 2007 I was helping with demos with Family Tree Maker, Brother's Keeper, and Legacy. I was asked this very same question. I was able to do it by A) making one of the females a male B) marry them C) then change the male to a female. This was first time I tried it and it worked like a charm. I cannot remember which software package I used, but I will look in my old software drawer. I tried the same procedure in Legacy 7.5.0.75. To my surprise Legacy software does not permit same sex marriages and will not permit the changing of sex once married. Legacy is sold to countries all around the world and to person of all religions or of no religious believes. Thus Legacy software should be less restrictive or at least have a option to turn this feature off. I will continue to look for a work around. Re: [LegacyUG] All-In-One Family Tree
Over the years I have paid for various software genealogy packages including Family Tree Maker, The Master Genealogist, Brothers Keepers, The New Genealogy (TNG), Legacy and most of Legacy add-ons. I have also used many free Windows, Linux, and Web software, including PAF, myheritage, Family Origins, Gramps, and many others. When asked Which genealogy software do you recommend? My respondse is If you want to nice reports and charts for your close family (about 500 persons or less) then buy an cheap older version of Family Tree Maker. If you what to record every person you find, then try the free version of Legacy. If you like it, buy the dulex version and pay the programmers. The trade off is either great chart/report making or ease of data administation. I will only start to exclusively recommend Legacy once the charts and reports creation improves. I have found the All In One Family Chart to only be useful to those with a small number persons in their data base. Designer's time will be best spent doing other charting/reporting improvements. Thanks Ron Your site has great ideas. I will be in contact. A simple way using the only Legacy tools is: A) Add an Individual called NewYork, Trip B) Create a new Event Called Sites with Show a Place Field only. Longitudes and latitudes have been added to both the Master Location List and the Events Address List. I would also like to export the longitudes and latitudes for various cemeteries / locations so the data can be used by a GPS. [LegacyUG] Mapping of various cemeteries / locations
I am planning a road trip. I want to visit some of my Legacy locations and cemeteries. I am looking for a way to display (on one map) any group of cemeteries / locations listed in my Legacy database. Longitudes and latitudes have been added to both the Master Location List and the Events Address List. I would also like to export the longitudes and latitudes for various cemeteries / locations so the data can be used by a GPS. On the family view, it shows Deleware Co, Iowa, I’m thinking “ah it’s just a typo” so I go to Locations list and there it is listed correctly, Delaware Co, Iowa. Ok, maybe tired eyes, close it up and go back to family view, nope, it’s still spelled wrong, OK, back to Locations list, find it, there’s not 2, I already checked, attempt to change it to see what happens, erase the ‘a’ and put the ‘a’ back in and go back to family view, nope, still spelled wrong. Anyone else have this anomoly?? Any ideas?? Also check the spelling of the short location name. -- Dennis Kowallek (LTools) http://zippersoftware.com/ltools http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ltools Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
Re: [LegacyUG] PDF files over 200 inch wide
I have found this to be very useful. Control Panel Printers and Faxes File Server Properties Create a new Form input a new form name in Form name enter the required paper size in Width and Height use the Save Form button. Now any printer including PDF printers which has a paper size of Custom should have the New Form you have just created. From the Adobe website article Create Adobe PDF Online http://tinyurl.com/26mqcwn Default Page Size To specify a default page size, enter a width and height, and choose a unit of measure. The maximum size is 200-by-200 inches (45-by-45 inches for Acrobat 3.0 compatibility). I didn't see that any third-party PDF creator goes around that limitation, otherwise it probably wouldn't be compatible with Adobe Reader.
