when I create the PDF the three blank pages could be gone.

Re: [LegacyUG] heic photo extentions

2022-02-21 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
Thanks Wes, I am running Windows 10. And I did get the HEIF Extension.
But my problem is how do I get Legacy Family Tree to accept the photos.
Heif is not one of the extensions that is acceptable and when I tried to
convert it to jpg it took the extension but not for Legacy. What do I need
to do to get the photo into a real jpg file so Legacy will accept it?
Thanks so much.

[LegacyUG] GEDCOM from 2004

2021-09-01 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
I have been given a mountain load of research papers done MANY years ago.
Maybe even before computers. However, amongst the papers I just found an
old floppy disk and a CD. I put the CD in an old PC I have and found 3
files that are GEDCOMs from 2004. I have the latest Legacy Family Tree and
have Windows 10. I need detailed procedures to get these files off the CD
and onto my laptop. I do not know which program they were originally in.
Please help!
Thank you very much.

Thanks Cathy. This will greatly help and is just what I needed to know. I

Re: [LegacyUG] Birth Event

2021-07-01 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
No, there is nothing in the birth field. In "Event/Fact" it has "birth" -
but nothing else - no date or place etc. I just experimented with a person
who does not have this issue and added an Event/Fact of birth. Now it
lights up the Event icon under that person's name. I just don't know how to
remove that Event/Fact" other then doing each person individually. I was
just wondering if there was a way to removed all of them who do not have
any information at all.
Thanks

I have a number of children who died young or that I do not have a birth
date for. When I run a Descendant Book report, they all come out saying the
child's name and then "He was born Birth".
How can I remove this from all these people without having to go in and
delete it one by one?

I am preparing a Descendant Book, Part of my choices for inclusion were

"Noted events in her life were:
*She was born Birth."

How do I stop the report from including those two sentences?

[LegacyUG] Ancestor Book Help Needed

I am trying to create an Ancestor Book. I am printing it duplex, and each
generation will run continuously - not beginning on a new page.
My problem is that there are no blank pages after the title page, table of
contents and the index. Is there a way to get a blank page after the title
page - after the table of contents - and before the index?
Thanks

[LegacyUG] "Index" columns

2020-12-16 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
When I use the "index" to look for an ancestor, I adjust the columns so I
can see the details better. However, when I get out of the Index, the
columns default back to where they were originally. How and where can I
get these columns fixed to the width that I want them to stay at?
Thanks

[LegacyUG] Descendants Book Report Issues

2020-12-14 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
I am trying to print out a 10 generation Descendant Book Report.
Everything formats correctly except the line that shows how each person
which has a number, descends from the oldest ancestor. Then that line runs
off the page on the right side, shows up on the far left margin, and then
wraps around to the second line, with a big gap between the words in the
far left column and where the wrap around falls correctly.

Could you please tell me what I am doing wrong? I tried decreasing the
margin on the right side but that did not work.
Thanks

Re: [LegacyUG] Name List Help Needed

2020-12-13 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all your ideas in trying to help me.
I will try more of your suggestions. I did try turning off the PP and that
did not work. All of my data is on my laptop and in Legacy Data and
Media. I did backup to Legacy Cloud once, but have not done that in a long
time and do a backup of my new work each day. I work on my family tree
every day as I am retired. Then every week or so I back all of it up to an
external hard drive which is not connected to my laptop until I am ready to
make a backup.
Thanks again.

[LegacyUG] Name List Help Needed

2020-12-12 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
I have asked this question before, but I really need some help fixing this.
I use the "Name List" when I am searching for someone. I prefer the Name
List to the "Index" option because it gives me so much more detail than
the Index option.
It has begun to come up in slow motion and takes forever to open up. Would
someone please tell me what is causing this and what the fix is?
Thank you.

Re: [LegacyUG] Latest Updated

2020-09-29 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
I have over 30,000 people in my file. Everything was working perfectly
using the "Name List" until this last update. I also have a new Laptop
with tons of capability, so I don't know what was in the last update that
is causing this issue.

Re: [LegacyUG] Latest Updated

2020-09-28 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
Well after just letting the blank screen look back at me, it finally loaded
after about 15 minutes. That option is still OK, but I really prefer using
the "name list' because it gives me more details about each person I click
on than just using the "index" option. Is there a fix for the loading of
the "name list"?
Thanks

When I click on "Index" I cannot make it work. I have nothing but a blank
screen. If I type in a surname, nothing happens and the screen is blank
except for what I just typed in. It does not matter which category I put
data into, I still have a blank screen with nothing happening.

[LegacyUG] Latest Updated

2020-09-28 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
When I updated to the latest update, it is slow to bring up the list of
names when I click on "Name List". It shows all the alphabet for the list
of names and then the section where the detail etc is - all in little empty
boxes as it runs across my screen while it loads. I have done a check and
repair, but that did not help. I have a new laptop which is almost a year
old now and it never did that before this update. It is very annoying.
What can I do to fix this?
Thanks

[LegacyUG] Descendant Report

2020-05-06 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
I made a Descendant Report for one line of my family tree and made a PDF to
save what I did. I use "Notes" quite a bit, by either copying and pasting
or by typing items in myself. If I copy and paste, I then reformat it to
read better in "Notes".

When I began reviewing my report, I saw one of the items that I copied and
pasted, was in the original format that I copied it from. I then went into
my Legacy file and it was correctly reformatted.

I was not even into 50 pages of a 400+ page document when I found this
issue. What is causing this issue?
Thanks Margaret

Re: [LegacyUG] Documents

2020-03-13 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
Trevor,
I transcribe all my documents into the "General" section of Legacy under
Notes. I can still refer to the originals, no matter if I found them
online and downloaded them, or if I actually went to the courthouse and
copied the items related to my family. By having a full transcription in
"General" I can look in one location under each family member and know
exactly what I have. Then when I print out family group sheets or even a
book report, all the documentation that I transcribed is included as long
as you choose the option to include them under "Report Options". The same
goes for "Research" notes and "Medical" notes.

When I make a typo and want to make a correction to the Master location
list, I click on the down arrow next to the location that needs adjusted.
However, the font is now so tiny, I can barely make out the words. I don't

readable font again? I have tried everything on the font sizes, but
nothing changes.

[LegacyUG] Symbols Disappeared

2019-10-30 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
I am not sure what this issue is called but I used to have a + besides the
children in Family view that indicated that they were married and had
children, or that they died single or that they were married, but no
children were entered yet, each with a different symbol. I have looked at
everything that I could think of, but know I am not calling it the correct
name. I found in the Help Index where it describes each of these symbols,
but not how to get them to appear.
Would someone please tell me how to turn that option back on?

I begin with myself to set relationships and to set my direct line. It

[LegacyUG] Research Notes

There are General Notes, Research Notes and Medical Notes under the NOTES
tab for each person. I use all three of these. Is there a way to print
out a report for the research notes only for everyone in my program that
has research notes entered? I do not remember who has research notes and
who does not, and because I have almost 23,000 names in my file, it is not
feasible to look at each name and see what I need to do or if I even have
entered research notes or not.

Re: [LegacyUG] First & Second Cousins Report

2018-07-01 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
Thanks Gene,
I have made it that far and I have a Windows 7 machine and have opened an
Excel spreadsheet. However when I try to get the file, I cannot see it and
only have "Open" as an option to get a file. How do I get this cvs file
into Excel?

I have the same problem. And further, any notes that I have in both

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Users Classes

2017-05-11 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
Yes, I plan to do that. However, trying to remember what I watch is one of
my problems. It helps me to have a guru, that I can call on when I am in
the middle of something and have a question. Hunting through the "Help"
does not always work for me, because I do not necessarily know what words I
need to use to ask the question. I called 'Support' one time a couple of
years ago and the person told me he did not have enough time to help me get
things corrected in my program. I use the simple functions, and all comes
out OK, but it would be nice to have help to understand some of the more
complicated things. For example: What is a hash tag and why would I want
to use it?
Thanks so much for all your ideas.

[LegacyUG] Bolding & Underling in General Tab

2017-05-04 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
For many years now I have transcribed under the General tab, deeds, wills,
obits, etc. I have always put the first item I entered on the first line.
Then I would bold and under the heading for the item I was transcribing.
However, when I finally decided to print the details in a report such as
"Decendant Book", the first item I entered began as

"General Notes: Indiana Weekly Messenger, Thursday, February 27, 1919,
Page 1, Indiana, Indiana Co, PA"

Then my problem began when I moved the title line to the next line, the
bold and underline no longer appear for that first title line. Then I must
do a bold and underline - save each time - and on the 3rd time the bold
and underline will appear again in the report.

Is there a fix for this issue? I have almost 20,000 people in my tree and
that is a lot of bolding & underlining x 3 for each person. Please help!!
Thanks

Re: [LegacyUG] sourcing question

2017-04-21 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
Ever since I began using Legacy, I have transcribed everything I found on
each individual under the General tab. Census, Deeds, Wills, Birth & Death
Records, obits, letters, etc. and the last item I put is the Find-a-Grave
information. I copy and paste into the General Tab when I can. In some
cases, when I print out a family group sheet it may be 20-30 pages long,
all telling about the life of that husband and wife. I can refer back to
it at any time and see the full information exactly as I found it. I wish
we would have had that story tab a long time ago, so unless there is,
something very special about it, I don't plan to look at my almost 20,000
folks and move what is in my General Tab to the Story Tab. Can anyone tell
me what the difference would be and how it would PDF or print out to
include all my work?
Thanks Margaret

Re: [LegacyUG] Master Locations List

2017-02-02 Thread Margaret Gagliardi
I enter the date on each persons main page where you enter - born - bapt -
died - buried - death cause. For burial I put the name of the cemetery
first, then the town if there is one, then the county, and then the state.
Am I supposed to enter it somewhere else also?
Thanks so much for your help.
Margaret
