[LegacyUG] Search for burial Pics?

2012-04-23 Thread Paul R.
I am trying to get gravestone pictures for as many of the individuals in
my Legacy DB that I can. When I do get one, I attach it as a burial
picture. I have 508 individuals that I have added burial locations
for. I know that I have pictures for 261 of those individuals because I
add a comment in the Research notes when I add the picture. Is there a
way to use the search facility to find out which of the 508 individuals
does not have a burial picture? That would allow me to add them to
FindAGrave and request a picture. I could not find a way to add
'attached pictures' as a search option.

Thanks,
Paul

Re: [LegacyUG] Census List Needs Refining

2012-03-09 Thread Paul R.
One other enhancement that would help would having the ability to
exclude someone from a particular census. There are some people who you
just cannot find in a particular census and marking them as
excluded/can't find would make the list easier to use. And an option
for the list to include or exclude these individuals would be nice.

Re: [LegacyUG] Dates in CSV file

2012-02-28 Thread Paul R.
Excel doesn't recognize dates prior to 1900 so it will leave those
alone. Dates starting with 1900 are converted to a number so you can do
'arithmetic' on them. Thus full dates are converted and partial dates
are not. You must have the date formatting in excel set up to show
m/d/. Those that aren't recognized as dates aren't formatted.

I won't be able to try it until later tonight. But I can tell you that it
appears to only affect full dates after 1 Dec 1900. Dates in the 20th and
21st centuries seem to be affected if the full date has been entered. Any
dates prior to that are captured correctly in the CSV file and therefore,
 open correctly in Excel.

For example, 19 Jul 1905 is displayed in Legacy with the BirthD field in
tblIR = 0019071905 and BirthSD = 19050719. The CSV file shows it as
19-Jul-05 and when opened in Excel, the fx displays it as 7/19/2005.

 are displayed incorrectly in Excel.

All of the dates in Legacy look to be formatted the same.
I may be quite wrong about this, but I have an idea that Legacy will
accept dates input in any of several formats, but displays them in the
 format chosen by the user.

If this is the case, I think dates will be exported to the CSV file in
the format they were entered, not in the format they were displayed.

You could test this by entering a couple of dates in different formats
and then export them and seeing how they look in Excel. I haven't time
to do that myself at the moment.

there was a way to search it for multiple individuals in my Legacy
family tree. Thus I have written a program that reads the Legacy

works fine for my Legacy data. I know that because Legacy is so
flexible, there are many ways to add your data. If you have any
problems or suggestions for improvements, please send them to my email

Using SourceWriter templates. I don't know if this applies to Basic stuff.

Create a Master Source item such as for the 1871 Census of Jersey in the
 Channel
Islands where the medium is Online Images.

 a) Select Census Records
 b) Select the country Channel Islands
 c) Select the year 1871 census
 d) Select the medium Online images

Now, go to step 2, fill in the relevant information on the Source Info tab,
and Save the Master Source entry.

Then, open the Source Clipboard, don't clear it and click on Step 1 to select
the master source to be cited, and select the one just created.

Now, put the cursor in the Location Details field. For some reason, the
greyed-out prompt information doesn't always clear and you wind up with more
information than you wanted in this field. Tab through the others, and if
 they're empty, the prompts clear.

As I say, an annoyance rather than something that can't be worked around. Did
 I
 explain it in enough detail?
