Does the offer "Any purchases of Legacy 7.5 from May 8, 2013 forward
will receive the new Legacy 8 at no charge" still stand? If I enter my
key at the Upgrade page it says $21.95

Nonetheless, the new version looks promising, at least the Standard
version :)

Really? You know that the 10th generation has 512 ancestors? That would
be less than 2 pixels in height for each individual at a display
resolution like 1920x1080.

I have that problem. No research notes are displayed though they were
imported correctly - the icon at the Family view is colored and I can
see them in a GEDCOM export. If I open the Notes window for an
individual the General tab is focused but the content of Medical tab is
shown. If click on Medical and then General again, the edit box for the
notes is shown but it's empty.

I copied the 7.5 fdb file and opened it in 8.0 (option 3: convert and
open file). But from the German mailing list I know now that only the
Standard version has this Notes problem. So it will go away for me after
I finally get a Deluxe key - waiting since 3 days.

Just be patient. Is your 7.5 version broken? Then why complain? I bought
Legacy in July with a free update to 8, never heard again from the
company. But with all the small bugs currently floating around, there is
no rush. Ok, if Santa is knocking at my door and I still have no key ...

[LegacyUG] Mouse scrolling in grids

2013-12-02 Thread Sebastian Masch
Hello

I finally got 8 to run and stumbled over a problem in the Index View and
the children list in the Family View. In the Index View I can't scroll
the list with the mouse wheel as long the search boxes RIN, Given or
Surname have the focus (blinking cursor). In 7.5 I could just click into
to the list and then scroll up and down with the wheel. What secret key
combination or mouse gesture will let me use it in 8?
In the Family View it's the same with the children list, I use the
scrolling list feature. The mouse wheel simply doesn't work.
Also a single click on a child opens its Family View, how can I change
it to a double click? This single click behavior is quite confusing. 7.5
had the problem too, but it had a nice popup when hovering over a child,
that helped a bit.

In my eyes, Legacy can convert coordinates back and forth as it sees
fit. I would rather see a more comforting way to input coordinates. I
spend the summer to give every of my 2400 places in my database a
coordinate. The US places worked fine as expected, but for Europe ... I
gave up and used the Internet.
It would be nice to have a little bit of automatic conversion. In almost
all cases you find
coordinates like "39.913889, 116.391667" or "39° 54′ 50″ N, 116° 23′
30″
E" or "54.1543°N 9.6781°E". That is nothing Regular Expressions can't
handle, so just copy&paste or drag&drop coordinates into the Conversion
Helper or already into the "Latitude and Longitude" section should be
enough to convert them into Legacy's DDMMSS.xxx system.

So where are two places in your database when where is actually only one?

Perhaps Legacy should not include only long and short names for a place,
but also historical and romanized names - simply prepare Legacy for
international use. For example Volgograd: it's actually Волгогра́д,
it's
historical name is Цари́цын, the romanized name is Volgograd. Perhaps
alternative names could be used too, like for individuals, then the
names Tsaritsyn and Stalingrad could be added.
It would be beautiful to have the possibility to not just choose short
location names in reports but also choose historical and add some
alternative names in brackets.

[LegacyUG] Exporting Gedcom with Occupation

2013-12-06 Thread Sebastian Masch
Hello

I just realized that Legacy doesn't export occupations with the OCCU-tag
instead it uses an EVEN-tag. Why? And how can I fix this? None of the
various export options seem to have a proper occupation tag in the final
GEDCOM file, despite it's selected in the GEDCOM Export Items.
As a side note the TYPE-tag used in conjunction with EVEN is
localized!!! If there is no solution for the OCCU-tag when I will rant
about that later ;-)

Well, it seems to be a bug with localization, if I switch Legacy to
English all the events with GEDCOM standard tags get properly exported.
Should I report with the Problem Report Form or does this mail suffice?

But why? With the new scrolling list it's rather redundant. I would
rather see they spend their man-years in fixing the new list ...
double-click instead of single-click on children, scrolling with mouse
wheel etc.

This list is a lost cause. All the TOFU and full quotes, also the broken

I don't think there is a system. Yet I have two observations ... If I
switch the view from scrolling grid to 3 columns and back, then
scrolling works. If I start Legacy with Family View there is a second
scrollbar half hidden behind the grids scrollbar. It seems fully
functional, but doesn't do anything.

Although the options allow you to change the language to German it
doesn't happen.
The UI is translated, but in the charts only the title is in German,
labels and dates are still English. The labels can be edited by the user
to be German though, but the dates aren't editable.
I would stick with GEDCOM export and let the recipient use it's own
charting software.

[LegacyUG] Date Prefixes capitalized

2015-06-01 Thread Sebastian Masch
Hello

I have a problem with the date prefixes (about, before, between etc.)
where I'm not sure if it's a bug or if it's supposed to be working that
way now. Since build 497 dates with prefixes are always capitalized in
the views, in the reports they're just fine. So instead of "about 2015",
the user settings (option 5.7) are ignored and I get an "About 2015".
If it is not a bug, where is the option to turn that off?

I'm getting this since the latest versions (533 or the one before). I
