This is the reason I have two. I rotate them with my safe deposit box
once a week. Over 34,000 digitized items.

Inconvenience ? Yes, but piece of mind.

I agree. Great advise ! This is what I have been doing for years. I
remember Geoff showing me the way he did his over 10~15 years ago. I'm
sure he has probably changed it by now. I like to include not only the
date, but also the description (_Annelöv Parish_, 1826 Malmöhus,
Sweden), names of cemetery's, or names of individuals in the photo. As
mentioned, the canvas can be made different sizes. I always increase the
right side for where I got it or the url info I need.

Back to the original question, I use the discription in my file name.
"Sweden_Annelöv_Parish_1826.tif", easier for me to scan through. I have
over 33,000 photos/documents/ect. in my long and deep tree. Takes just a
few minutes just to do so when you first have the item.

You know I don't use multimedia with Legacy, however how about the

I think this tag line(s) could be a bit shorter ? Possibly just
referring them to a webpage with all that info with a little decoration.

If not, put that
Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009:

on the archive page header. That would at least save a bit, and just
have one archive link,
Archives - link here

I don't really care about the blog, facebook, or twitter

It is also a pain to strip that, or see it again and again and again
because people don't strip. I'm sure I have done it plenty of times, but
try to remember.

As usual, just my opinion (Flame suit on)

Re: [LegacyUG] Any suggestions? Picture Gallery trouble in Master Source picture gallery - family bible TIF's

2012-06-01 Thread Tim Rosenlöf
Bill,

Where is the location of Legacy ? C:\Legacy ? And how large is the
folder of photo's \Legacy\Pictures ? I didn't think about it, but I
wonder how many photos are attached overall. I only did a few from the
sample.fdb file. I also failed to ask, how big is your database ?

If you cannot open Legacy with your family File, Navigate to the folder
where the sample.fdb is and double click. That will open Legacy with the
sample.fdb C:\Legacy\Data

Just for the heck of it, I just added over 150MB .tif of photos with one
of them alone is 40MB.tif I added to Asa from the sample file.

I experienced *No* problem opening Legacy. It does so in less than five
seconds.

I also use a program called Fastone for viewing and modifing photos. It
has no problem with dozens of 10MB photos.

Before you start crying "Defect" or "Flaw" I would do some homework

Now, to take all the multimedia away from Asa and his wife :)

Not Off topic at all. Legacy sells it !
It is quite a bit more expensive. Like I mentioned before, I would
purchase one for anyone and be willing to ship it to them with USA Dollar.

Re: Legacy Pictures/multimedia Storage: was Re: [LegacyUG] What is the best way to do this?

2012-05-29 Thread Tim Rosenlöf
I hate to have a fire storm about this one. :-)

I have installed in \Program Files with XP and Win7. My data is
somewhere else as I mentioned earlier and have not had ant troubles.
When a new build come out (which I get many), Legacy finds my Legacy in
\Program Files without any work on my part. If Legacy is meant to only
be installed in C:\Le... , then it should be _forced_ there, and not
give the user any opportunity.

I see Sherry's point, we have worked support together and it is hard at
times to troubleshoot issues with some crazy installs.

We have had this discussion so many times. Take a peek at the archives

On a side note, I tried to install Legacy on my thumb drive just for the
heck of it. It worked to my surprise. It did however write some files to
\windows somewhere. I was just fooling around and probably wouldn't
suggest it. :-)

Ummm... Why not just copy your tree from wherever you have it and paste
it to C:\\Genealogy\Tree or where ever she wishes. No need for any
special software. *ALL* my digitizes items go to C:\\Genealogy\Long and

I don't use multimedia with Legacy. I am one of those that use Legacy as
a 'record management' software only. I also do not have Legacy installed
in the default location (which we have argued before), and it runs just
fine. I am a beta tester and need to install in different locations each
build you don't see. LegacyNew.exe
