[LegacyUG] Christening-baptism event
Long ago in vers 4 or 5 I entered several baptisms as the minor event because the primary was christening. I didnt know I could change it then. Now I find 45 people with minor bapt events (used MS Access). About 70% had duplicates so just deleted the minor. The rest were only in the minor so I copied to primary and deleted the minor bapt event. Now I wonder how a search would work in Legacy for individual with a baptism event if you have 2 different class of baptism? Would you need to first change primary to christening to find the minor bapt? I'm away from comp now so cant check it. Re: [LegacyUG] Is there a digest option for group messages?
Amen to that Wendy. When digest subscribers reply on other lists, (including the Rootsweb Legacy list), they don't know how to: Maintain the original subject, (Digest #56 is meaningless to list subscribers). Trim their post, (listers frequently receive complete digests). -- Richard Van Wasshnova http://www.gencircles.com/users/vanwasshnova http://gw.geneanet.org/vanwasshnova On Tue, Dec 15, 2009 at 7:12 PM, wendy.how...@gmail.com wrote: Is there a digest option for group messages that I'm not aware of, there are too many strings of repetitive messages being sent... No, there is no digest on this list. You may not realise it, but in a way Legacy are doing you a favour by not having a digest - without it, you have a greater opportunity of learning how to manage your mail box more effectively, and realise that digests are not the best way to get the most out of any mailing list. Re: [LegacyUG] Finding Bad Links (Merge Problems?)
Brian, Brian at Legacy answered BUT: There are several disadvantages to exporting / reimporting via gedcom. Everyone shows as IMPORTED. It might appear that you borrowed your database from someone else. Modified dates all reset. To-do list loss? I'm sure there are other drawbacks. -- Richard Van Wasshnova On Tue, Dec 15, 2009 at 3:10 PM, britton...@comcast.net wrote: File merging seems to have produced erroneous links with both Legacy 6 and Legacy 7. Under Legacy 6, I found duplication of parents with children linked to only one set. That was picked up by either noticing doubled spouses on the Family Screen, or that the tree could be traversed one way but not the other. It was fixable by appropriate delinking of the childless parents. My last merge with Legacy 7 similarly produced a tree traversable down but not up from files lacking that feature, stopping at a parentless individual, but with no other information or apparent tool in Legacy to fix it. (No duplication of child or parents.) Accordingly, I exported a gedcom to GRAMPS, where the individual showed up with two parent sets, one correct and the other two Unknown. It's trivial in GRAMPS to delete the bad link, so I did that and returned the genealogy to Legacy 7 via gedcom with the problem found fixed. No change appeared in the individual count in GRAMPS or Legacy, nor did it earlier in Legacy 6, and File Repair fails to fix this. My questions: Is there a way to search Legacy 7 for this kind of problem? Is there a way to fix the parent duplication one in Legacy 7? kb Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergr...@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
Re: [LegacyUG] Upgrading source details
Yes, if you have MS Access or Open Office or ltools ( http://zippersoftware.com/ltools/index.htm ). Any of them will put a blank template of your choice in Source detail first tab. Text Comments and Multimedia and more are transferred to the new source writer. -- Richard Van Wasshnova http://www.gencircles.com/users/vanwasshnova http://gw.geneanet.org/vanwasshnova On Sun, Dec 13, 2009 at 1:19 PM, car...@bellsouth.net wrote: Is it possible to redo source citations to use the newer source assistant? Re: [LegacyUG] marriages duplicating
I've had this too after merging duplicate husbands and wives. The 2 extra RINs are deleted but the extra MRIN remains after the merge. -- Richard Van Wasshnova http://www.gencircles.com/users/vanwasshnova http://gw.geneanet.org/vanwasshnova On Tue, Dec 8, 2009 at 11:48 AM, maryevh...@gmail.com wrote: I have had this problem before, but don't recall why. My Legacy 7 file began to have two and three instances of the marriages of couples. I can remove the second and third instance by using the unlink button - not the delete. So I am cleaning it up. But it is annoying and time-consuming to do so, and I don't want to put the database out to anyone else until it is cleaned up. What did I do that caused this to happen? Thanks, Mary E. V.
