Re: [LegacyUG] Census Head Of Household Question
Michelle & Marie: Thank you for your responses. To summarize, ChasH said that the instructions to the enumerators in 1880 were that, in this case, the jailer (i.e., superintendent) was the head of household. Jennie suggested using the Event description to show that the person was the Superintendent of the facility. And Michele (with Marie agreeing) said that she puts the name of the hospital as the "head of household." So I have the superintendent, Event description and the name of hospital as "head of household." I don't think that I have gotten ahead here . Thanks again to all. [LegacyUG] Census Head Of Household Question
Luggers: I have an ancestor who was a supervisor in an asylum for the insane per the 1880 census. The first person listed for the dwelling is the superintendent of the facility. When I write a citation for the census, is he the head of the household or would I show the name of the facility as the household name (i.e., McLean Asylum for the Insane Household, 1880 U.S. Census, etc.)?
