I don't. I'm just going UP the pedigree until I find her, so
I can generate a Descendant list.

Since I don't WANT all her descendants, only the female
ones, and since you can actually specify that (sometimes), I
find this easier than trying to remember who she is.

Re: [LegacyUG] Creating a mtDNA LIST of ancestors

2014-11-09 Thread Paula Ryburn
Hey, Ron. I finally found some time to try out your procedure for finding
mtDNA matches for myself.
I have a very short longest maternal line, so it was easy to verify results.
My mother grandmother had no sisters, but my great-grandmother had two
sisters. The sisters show in the final results, but their daughters do not. I
can see that an intersection of my (or my daughter's) ancestors and Abigail
Whipple's descendents wouldn't include the sisters' daughters, but if I were
looking to see who else was alive that might be carrying the same mtDNA as
myself, I would want to include these daughters, and their daughters, and so
on. Any thoughts on how I could tweak the procedure? Not urgent for me, just
wondering.
Thanks,

Ron has an excellent suggestion.

You can include all that info in a List Report from the Search List.
However, the report will be in order based on the order of the Search
List - i.e., RIN, Given or Surname.

You can create the report in CSV and open that in your spreadsheet
program to sort by relationship, but it wouldn't sort in Descendant
order.

There is a lineage report in Legacy, but it's paternal only and
doesn't include all the info you want. The closest to what you want is
the female DNA chart in Legacy Charting.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Creating a mtDNA LIST of ancestors

I need to create a list of people in my database ascending from my
daughter, that would carry the same mtDNA as she does. So the maternal line
from my daughter, to me, to my mother, to her mother, etc. as far back as I
 can go.

I need to include siblings that would carry this mtDNA, as well as their
 spouses.

I want a list, such as a descendant report, NOT a chart. So using Legacy
Charting is out. I've looked at the various report options, and tagging
mechanisms, and still can't get anything to output what I am looking for.

 Can anyone offer any help?

Re: [LegacyUG] Creating a mtDNA LIST of ancestors

2014-11-05 Thread brittongen
Jessica,

If what you need is just linked names, you can probably parse a gedcom and
extract it with little programming. If you want to carry more information
and/or use Legacy's report facilities, it's probably simplest to do it by hand.
Clear a tag and set up your daughter as focus. Ctrl Tset_tagClose is just 3
keystroke/mouse clicks. Repeat for all siblings. Click mother to advance focus
and repeat to furthest ancestor. You now have your backbone and sibling mtDNA
carriers.

If you want all carriers, go back to your daughter and proceed up the backbone
again, stopping at each female sibling who has female issue. Make focus and tag
children as above, repeating downwardly for lower females. When you get back to
the head of your backbone, all common mtDNA carriers are tagged. As always, do
a backup, then export all so tagged to a Legacy file, not a gedcom.

from my daughter, to me, to my mother, to her mother, etc. as far back as I
 can go.

I need to include siblings that would carry this mtDNA, as well as their

I want a list, such as a descendant report, NOT a chart. So using Legacy

Re: [LegacyUG] Creating a mtDNA LIST of ancestors

2014-11-04 Thread Sherry/Support
Ron has an excellent suggestion.

You can include all that info in a List Report from the Search List.
However, the report will be in order based on the order of the Search
List - i.e., RIN, Given or Surname.

You can create the report in CSV and open that in your spreadsheet
program to sort by relationship, but it wouldn't sort in Descendant
order.

There is a lineage report in Legacy, but it's paternal only and
doesn't include all the info you want. The closest to what you want is
the female DNA chart in Legacy Charting.

2014-11-04 Thread Jay Wilpolt
Jessica,

You might want to contact Dennis at LTools and for ask what it would cost
to create a special report for you.
I have had several done over the years, many were well worth the $25 he
charged me. I dont know how complicated it would be to properly calculate
or how difficult it would be to program.

Just a thought as for me the thought of free-handing any report is
enough for me to avoid it altogether.

Re: [LegacyUG] Creating a mtDNA LIST of ancestors

2014-11-04 Thread Ron Taylor
Look at LtoolsDeluxeAdvanced TaggingMitoDNA

It will set the tags on the carriers of a given mtDNA or Y-DNA. Then back to
Legacy and produce whatever reports you want based on the tag. Be sure to
uncheck Include husbands... and Include wives... to get just the blood line
for mtDNA. For Y-DNA uncheck Include daughters and Include spouses. Both
routines utilize the child status to try to rule out adopted lineages. I am
not certain if the Relationship to Parent status fields are also utilized in
the filter.

I have been a coordinator for DNA projects for many years and I use these
Ltools processes often to help determine who would be good candidates for DNA
testing.

Jessica,

I'm afraid that I didn't work on ordering the female line, indeed I'm not at
all sure that it can be done from within Legacy.

Maybe a date or something could be added and sort done in Excel or equivalent,
but quite frankly I have not thought this through.

To be honest the technique was developed following a request to find Y-DNA
lines and whilst doing this I realised that it could be adapted for direct
mtDNA.
