Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy update still not working - done

2020-01-23 Thread Cathy Pinner

Eva,
Next time just restart your computer. That closes any lock files that
didn't clear properly when the file was closed.
The alternative, if you are comfortable with doing it, is looking
through your Data Folder and deleting any files with an ldb extension.
You have to make sure you are only deleting LDB files and not FDB files.

Hallo all,
I downloaded the update via my existing program (German). Download was
ok, the new version is existing on my laptop now. But when I try to open
the program I get following message:
Error Opening Message File  - Datei konnte nicht gesperrt werden
I never wanted to "sperren" (means lock) the data.
I tried the download again - without a firewall, nothing changed.
I don't know where to look for this message. Can anybody help?

How did you do it? If you downloaded from the website, then you have to
install it.

If from the Legacy Home tab, it will install automatically.

Why don't you use the home page in Legacy. It will tell you on the

just have to click on Update now and you are all set! You're makingit

[LegacyUG] Legacy Update

2014-06-13 Thread r0dietrich
Just tried to update Legacy to the current build and I keep getting
"GLB6D33.tmp has stopped working", I have emptied the temp folder and
re-started windows and I am still getting the same message. Anyone have any
suggestions?

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Update Notice and "Legacy Home tab".

2014-03-06 Thread Sherry/Support
Tab - think of the top of a file folder or the little thingy sticking out
on the side of the divider in a notebook. The tabs across the top are also
referred to as "views" - Legacy Home view, Family view, etc.

Button and Icon are pretty much interchangeable

You can select which tab/view opens when you open Legacy in Options >
Customize 1.1

There's a link to the website in the Support section of the Legacy Home
tab/view
. You can also get to the Legacy website through "Technical Support"
section in the Legacy Help Contents and there's extensive Help information
about getting update notifications under Update.

Oh - and the Legacy News has announced the update, both emailed to the LUG
list and in the Legacy Home tab. I wonder if that tab/view should be your
opening tab so you don't miss it???

Sherry

[LegacyUG] Legacy Update Notice and "Legacy Home tab".

2014-03-05 Thread J.M. "Jay" Ingalls
Sherry,

I never can think of the "proper" terminology for "Buttons" and "Tabs",
etc. I was referring to what you call the "Legacy Home tab". Have almost
no use for what you call the "Preferred Startup Family".

I almost never "see" "Legacy Home tab" where it is now. Most programs
appear to have a link to their web site in their "Help" menu. Any
additional location would help. Or the pop-up notice that an update is
available when starting the program that then fades away as previously
mentioned would be a great addition.

Note that I have not received a message from Legacy that a new version
is available.

I agree but it would only pop-up with when a new update is released and it
could have the obligatory Sherry opt out option.

Sherry, et al,
Most software I use will pop up an informative dialog when there is an
update with a button to click if you want to do the update. Why can't
Legacy do likewise?

Of course having the blurb showing the most recent version and the
currently installed version with the update link on the home page should be
maintained.

There is no Legacy Home button. There's a Legacy Home tab but no button.

In earlier versions, there was a "Home" button on the far left of the
toolbar which took you to the Preferred Startup Family. A lot of
people were confused with the Legacy Home tab and the Home button when
we'd give instructions so Ken changed that button to the Startup
Family on the "My Toolbar" in v8.

It wouldn't go on the File ribbon since it has nothing to do with
Files but has to do with going to the Preferred Startup Family set in

There were some Set Color bugs that are now fixed (text color for

There may be some other changes but I haven’t had a chance to verify yet.

Due to the volume on the list since v8 was released it is difficult to stay

Randy,

Now why would it be an installation bug? It is my experience that when a file

I believe the file format was intentional.

There were some Set Color bugs that are now fixed (text color for
birth/bapt/death/etc data items vs labels, also the child number labels).

There may be some other changes but I haven’t had a chance to verify yet.

I'm with you Tim. Actually I would like to go back one release. 7.5.0.112

have nothing to do with that source. Problem is finding all of these
incorrect assignments. I have backups before converting to 7.5.0.112, but
don't know how to get back to previous version.

Millennia has jumped to a new major release without fixing the existing

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy Update

2012-01-02 Thread Ron Taylor
I have responded to that issue before. It would be unlikely that a new version
(probably v8) would or could be released until the current version is at least
stabilized with the tool set it already has in it. Millennia would not jump
ship at this point, leaving v7 in an unfinished state. The obvious
continuation of development on v7 is evidence that all efforts are concentrated
on getting it clean before focusing on a new major release. Someone at
Millennia chime in if my comments need modification. As a programmer, I truly
appreciate companies like Millennia who only release product after it has been
extensively tested and debugged.

This sounds like a very minor maintenance release. I think what Joshua was
asking, or at least what I would like to know, is what is happening as far
as a major new release with actual enhancements.

I am not speaking for Millennia, but as a member of the beta test group, the
program is looking pretty stable. We all hope that a very stable version is
verified before a public release to reduce the problems caused by un-proven
routines. The current beta release is 7.5.0.133 so you can see that
progress is being made since the last public release of 7.5.0.112. Many
good things are being debugged in the system so everyone is anxious to get
their hands on it when it is ready for prime time.

Since I am not LDS, I had removed those tabs years ago. When I did that some

eventually found the 'hidden' data. You may have done this unintentionally.

Hi again Sheila:

I have just been looking at your situation and I have been able to find a
partial solution that may work for you. Go to the name list > options> custom
choose the position where you want the BEPSC information to show. There are
eight possible positions. I tried the second.

Then when you highlite a person in the name list and click on the "details" tab
you will see your BEPSC information. I just tried it so you have taught me
something new.

I hope this will work for you.

  Hi,

Thanks everyone, tried everything, now got the BEPSC in the index, also the
reports, BUT still not got them in the NAME LIST and am finding it very
annoying. Maybe it is a change made in the update, I am sure things will be
better once all the teething troubles are ironed out, but at the moment I am
very disappointed with the way it is working, I have spent all week just
sorting things out, when I first download the update it lost ALL my family
records, luckily I had back ups, so please be careful people.

All I want to do is family history and I seem to be turning into a computer

Go to the name list, click on options, click on customize display and you
will see the same window as you used in the index view to change what you
see there. Good luck! I haven't had any trouble with downloads removing
anything from my file thank goodness and you are the first i've heard that
has had that problem. Thank goodness for backups! I hope this works for
you. It is usually the case with a major version change that everything
will revert back to defaults. Sad and frustrating but at least you can get
everything back to the way you like it. Legacy has so many options to tweak
and we really get spoiled by that, don't we? Kathy

Sherry,

I had also added some columns in the 7.4.0.9 configuration which I believe
were deleted when I installed the update. I added one back in and tried
clicking the Default button. Everything changed back to the "squished"
format and the "Age" column disappeared again. It may have had something to

I hope this helps your analysis. Thanks,

That happened to me on both 7.4 updates. Fortunately, I had saved my setup
so all I had to do was load it back up ...

Just go ahead and reset the columns. We have *no* idea why that happens as it
doesn't happen for everyone and I've never seen it happen.

Ron - yes I called them shortcuts on the desktop, thinking that was
what they were called.

Sherry - Good to hear from you, we first 'met' before you went to work
for Millennia. Before asking for advice I tried the "squish" thing as
I read about it on the list. They are not 'squished' they are gone.
When I go to Options - customize columns all that is there are the
default ones. Unless you think otherwise I will do the same as Hugh
did, add them back in and go back to worrying about something like
water being wet.

2010-03-15 Thread Sherry/Support
Yes, that's what setting to Default does. Well, it shouldn't "squish" but it
will reset the columns to show only RIN, Full Name, Sex, Birth, Birth Place,
Death and Death Place. Those are the "default" columns.

Thanks for using Legacy.

2010-03-15 Thread Sherry/Support
Before installing the last update, I purposely changed some options to be quite
visible - bold colors, distinctive fonts, unusual columns in the Index tab.

I didn't experience any changes to those options when I updated to the latest
build. A few users report this on occasion and we're not sure why it's
happening.

When your Index rows get "squished", just move the mouse pointer to the far
left to one of the lines between the rows until it becomes a double arrow. Left
click and drag to the size you want it. All rows will resize to the same
height.

Thanks for using Legacy.

Ann,

Yes, the same thing happened to my Index screen. The columns were all

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy update 7.4.0.19 removed index information, also have two shortcut icons

2010-03-15 Thread Hugh Busey
Ann,

Yes, the same thing happened to my Index screen. The columns were all
squeezed and returned to their default configuration. It only took a
couple of minutes to re-configure back to my preferences. It appears
that when the up-grade was loaded it was set to configure Legacy's
default, not ours.w Not a big deal but it was a bit of a nuisance.

Ann,

Your questions are slightly puzzling, and seem to imply that the update is a
new installation, which may have installed in a different directory to your
existing (old) installation. In other words you may have two installations,
is was in C\Legacy and the new one in C\Progam Files?

I should not delete anything at this stage, although removing the old
Desk-top link and will not harm anything.

[LegacyUG] Legacy update 7.4.0.19 removed index information, also have two shortcut icons

2010-03-15 Thread aparsons
I updated to the latest build and it added another shortcut to the
desktop. The difference is the one added has Legacy 7.4. Would it be
ok to delete the original one?

Also, on the index tab in addition to the default columns I had added:
Father, Mother, Marriage: 1st Spouse Name and deleted Sex column.
After updating, the columns I added are gone, the one I deleted is
back. Is this an indication that the update was not processed
correctly? Has anyone else had this happen? I am very worried about
this as it never happened in earlier updates. I have used Legacy
Deluxe since version 2.

I have Legacy Deluxe on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop Vista Home Premium
and on an Acer Aspire I Windows XP. Both have the same change.

Advice would be greatly appreciated,
