[LegacyUG] Legacy tip

2022-09-21 Thread John Bernacki
After using Legacy for many years, I just found something that I really
wish I would have known about.

If you are in General Notes and you press control + F, you can find key
words you are searching for. It is far more convenient and effective than
using Search and Replace, especially when you are checking or searching for
information but not wanting to replace words. Has this feature been
commonly known to Legacy users? Perhaps some others will benefit from this
tip.

I use General Notes for my family history stories or biographies, and some
individuals have 30 – 50 pages each, so my “discovery” is a Godsend.

TIP OF THE DAY (Legacy Staff) - Where is the xDNA chart? (Legacy 9)

The xDNA chart isn't a separate chart but rather it is a new color scheme.
Open Legacy Charting and choose the Half Fan Chart. Now go to Appearance >
Color and choose DNA X Chromosome from the drop down list. You can change
the default colors in the chart if you like.

will

see them too.

TIP OF THE DAY (Legacy Staff) - Another Easter Egg feature

Open someone's Individual's Information screen (this is where you
actually

add data to someone)

Click the FamilySearch ID LABEL. If the person does not have an FSID
number
already in the field, you will get FamilySearch's record search
results
page. If they do have an FSID entered you will go directly to their
Family

Tree page. I LOVE THIS!

Now click the Find a Grave ID LABEL. If the person does not have a FaG
memorial number already entered, you will get the FaG search results
page.
If the person does have a FaG memorial number entered, you will get
their

FaG memorial page.

I suspect that there are currently more v8 users than there are v9 users. Is it
possible that such “Tips of the Day” can specify if the tip is for v9 only or
if it applies to both versions.

I can’t help but think of the many users with v8 that are looking all over
their screen for the FAG label or wonder why their FSIS Label doesn’t work.

Or did I not get the memo that this forum was now ONLY for v9?

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Tip of the Day

2017-04-24 Thread Howard Cady

Michele,
Thanks for posting the "Tip of the Day" I am one of the non FaceBook users
of Legacy FT. This tip makes me want to see your previous Tips. I hope you
will be able to do this and continue to cross post to the Legacy Users
Group.

I am going to start cross posting the tips that I post on the Legacy User
Group Facebook page so that those of you that are not on Facebook you will
see them too.

TIP OF THE DAY (Legacy Staff) - Another Easter Egg feature

Open someone's Individual's Information screen (this is where you actually
add data to someone)

Click the FamilySearch ID LABEL. If the person does not have an FSID number
already in the field, you will get FamilySearch's record search results
page. If they do have an FSID entered you will go directly to their Family
Tree page. I LOVE THIS!

Now click the Find a Grave ID LABEL. If the person does not have a FaG
memorial number already entered, you will get the FaG search results page.
If the person does have a FaG memorial number entered, you will get their
FaG memorial page.

You need to first click on the "Event" field. It will then pop up the list of
events from which you can select Alt Birth.

Geoff,

I have plenty of Alt. Birth, Death, Marriage, etc. in my records. Some people
have 3 Alts. I looked and looked and still don't find Alt.
anything.
I'm perfectly happy with the 5 default events though

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy Tip: How to Display Conflicting Information

2011-07-02 Thread Geoff Rasmussen
Richard,

At the end of the article there is an important paragraph:

"The conflicting information will only appear as I've described above if you
actually record the conflicting data as an "Alt. Birth" event. I've written
about this a couple of times in past articles: click here and here for the
instructions."

Yes, for an "Alt. Birth" event to appear you would have had to add an Alt.
Birth at some point. I think at some point, maybe at version 7's release (or
before) the Alt events were added as defaults to the master event list. They
could be removed if you use the Purge Unused option in the Master Event List.

Happy researching,

Geoff

When you click on the and get to the list of options you need to scroll
through the list until you get to 'Event...' (after Death (or Burial). When you
select that you are taken to the list of events and you can choose whatever you
like - in your case Alt. Birth.

As far as I can see there is no ability to change the "Born" on the Family

there is no Field Name for Alt Birth under the front five items.

Hi

I read (and listened to) the the Legacy tip How to Display Conflicting
Information.
When the customize display box comes up.  The five field items are:
Birth/date/place; christening date/place; death date/place; burial date/place
cause of death appear.

I would like to change the Christening to Alt Birth like the tip says.  When I
clicked on the ... button on the christening field I get a list.  However alt
birth is not one of the options
According to the tip page it should be one of my options.  How do I get the
list to show the alt birth?

I am using Windows 7 (64 bit) as my operating system, Legacy Deluxe version
7.5.0.77 build date April 26 2011.

Thanks for your help.

My drop down list does not contain ANY alt events either, It doesn't
really matter to me since such changes are global I would never
surrender any of the 5 primary fields globally. Geoff should have
mentioned the fact that such a change is not local. I liked someone's

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy Tip: How to Display Conflicting Information

2011-07-02 Thread Jan Roberts
When you click on the and get to the list of options you need to scroll
through the list until you get to 'Event...' (after Death (or Burial). When you
select that you are taken to the list of events and you can choose whatever you
like - in your case Alt. Birth.

As far as I can see there is no ability to change the "Born" on the Family
Screen to Alt Birth - it can only be added as an "Event" to the person -
there is no Field Name for Alt Birth under the front five items.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Legacy Tip: How to Display Conflicting Information

2011-07-01 Thread Robert E. Carneal
Go to Family View.
Put your mouse over the field names.

RIGHT click.  Select Customize.  Do what you want. You can save
several schemes if you want. I have saved three and toggle between all
three pretty often.

Thank you.
