RE: [LegacyUG] New Mac

2011-05-17 Thread Rita Lynn McKale
I also have a Mac and was told about a program called CrossOver (for Mac) that
will run some Windows programs. One of the programs listed that was compatible
in CrossOver was Legacy 6. I was wondering if anyone has tried Legacy in this
program.

Thanks,

Rita

Scott - I've talked to support and they tell me it is a printer problem and not
a MAC issue - I've learned to 'work around' it though so it isn't as bad a
problem as I may have indicated. As you indicate - I love my MAC - there is so
much more stability and I'm not always 'tweaking' some issue as I do on my PC.
Just wish Legacy had a MAC program, but I understand that Legacy is a Windows
platform. I've used a couple of the MAC genealogy programs, but none of them
approach the Legacy for usability.

I used Parallels, Fusion and Bootcamp - finally settled on the Bootcamp package
and it works just like any PC when in its configuration. Installing the
program isn't difficult - I'm no techie, but following the instructions was
pretty easy. Then Windows 7 install was just as though it was on a regular PC.
As Scott said though, if you are reticent about doing it yourself, the tech
folks are great in helping to get you going.

As for Bob's print issue below, I'd say that is either local to his computer,

You would need to run something like Parallels which is what I do
myself.
Once setup it is quite easy to use, and Legacy can be run from there.
You can also drag an drop files from Parallels to Os if it is setup to
do so.

Re: [LegacyUG] New Mac

2011-05-16 Thread Tim Rosenlof
There is no Mac version of Legacy, however;

If you have a Mac with the Intel chipset and the new OS-X, you can
install Windows, either under Parallels, Bootcamp or Fusion and you will
be able to run Legacy with no problem.

If you have an older version of the Mac OS, you will need to install a
Windows emulator like Real PC, SoftWindows or Virtual PC, Legacy will
run just fine, although slower than it would under Windows.

Other than that i can be of no help because I don't have a Mac. Possibly
someone on the list will be more helpful.

RE: [LegacyUG] New Mac

2011-05-16 Thread David C Abernathy
I think you must install Windows on your Mac and then you can use Legacy.
There is a program on your Mac or you can add one that allows you to run
Windows on it.

You must buy a copy of windows to install it on your machine.

Thanks,

I purchased an iMac computer. I have friends who use Legacy all the time and
say it is the best. I am not computer savvy but am willing to learn. How do
get Legacy on my computer. Please be specific with all procedures and which
software versions I need.
