Re: [LegacyUG] New feature!

2020-01-24 Thread Michele Lewis
If you turn off all running programs and then RIGHT click the installation file
and select Run as Administrator this will stop 99% of the problems. If you
update through the program itself (Legacy home tab) all you need to do is make
sure that all running programs are off.

Turning off all other programs avoids the DLL conflict issue.

Bear in mind that what you are seeing here are posts from the *very few* who
have had problems compared to the hundreds (thousands probably) who have
updated without issues and are getting on with their lives.

Re: [LegacyUG] New feature!

2020-01-23 Thread Cathy Pinner

Bill,
You'll likely have more problems if you don't update as the security
certificate is about to expire and has been updated in this 339 update.

Many people have updated with no problems. If you are used to doing
Legacy updates you should have no problem though may need to pause your
security software during the actual installation.
If you get the Windows screen  Windows Protected your PC, click on the
More Info link and then the Run Anyway button.

Another thing it's worth doing is right clicking on the installation
file (if you are updating by downloading the file from the website and
not using the link on the Legacy Home tab) and choosing to Run as
Administrator.

Christopher,

Nothing in the update could remove the FS IDs from your family file.
However, an update can sometimes change some settings including
Options > Customise 1.2 which controls which file is opened when
Legacy opens. That may have happened and a different file to the one
you normally use has opened.
Check by using the Recent File list. The Recent File List is found by
clicking the L top left corner of the Legacy screen if the L is larger
than the title bar. If it isn't, you'll see a System Ribbon tab and
it's on that instead. It depends on the Design Style you are using.

Make sure you are using the right file in the right folder.

2020-01-22 Thread Cathy Pinner

Jeraldine,

I've been using Windows 10 for years now and not had this problem, so
no, it is not a Windows 10 problem.

Legacy is still being programmed by the same people since MyHeritage
took over. The only thing that has "gone downhill" is mapping hasn't
been able to be fixed since Microsoft turned off the API that Legacy was
using. Everything else has got better.

The simplest solution may be to run the Legacy installation file as
Administrator. To do this you right click on the downloaded installation
file and choose Run as Administrator. You can also choose to use the
program as Administrator. Right click on the shortcut for it or the
Taskbar icon and choose to Run as Administrator. I don't do either of
these but I use an Account with Administrator privileges.

when I figure out how to go to "safe mode",  am I then supposed to
install Legacy program again on computer by clicking on the link - Legacy?
Am I going to have to do this every time there is an update?  Is this
some problem running program on Win10?

I never had a problem with updates on Win7 or 8.

to think that Legacy is going "Downhill" since associated with My

[LegacyUG] New feature :)

2017-09-19 Thread Michele/Support
TIP OF THE DAY (Legacy Staff) - New Feature!

(Legacy 9)

The programmers have slipped in a new feature :) The Relationship Report now
has a filter so that you can tell Legacy you only want to see your BLOOD
relatives.

Before you get started, you need to set your relationships. Go to TOOLS >
SET RELATIONSHIPS. Normally you will set the relationships to yourself.

Once you have set the relationships the report will become active. Go to
REPORTS > OTHER REPORTS > RELATIONSHIP REPORT.

You will see a new checkbox for "Only include blood-relatives"

I use the Legacy Charting (Deluxe) with the DNA option for medical history.

Hint - if eg you need the female mtDNA line,
first select the Descendant Chart.
Once you have this descendant chart, you can ten change the chart type to
be eg Female mtDNA.

That should have been enough.

[LegacyUG] new feature suggestion: Connector line indicate blood-line

2011-11-12 Thread Robert57P_gmail
I tried to submit this via Legacy's "Suggest a new feature" screen on
the "Legacy Home" tab in the program, but I'm not sure if it made it. I
got a "suggestion confirmed" msg, but on that same screen it had a web
address and a "GO" button that made it look like I needed to click that
GO button to actually submit the suggestion. However, whenever I clicked
the GO button it said I had entered an invalid name and invalid e-mail.
(FYI - I submitted it under my primary e-mail address, I did not use the
same e-mail address I use on forums like this.)

Here's my suggestion:

It would be REALLY great if you could change some of the
charts/reports/displays so they indicated blood-line vs non-blood line
as an option. To some people this is not important, but to some this
could be a big plus and a good selling point for Legacy. You could even
have it where this was only available in the Deluxe Edition to encourage
sales.

It is important to note that this would involve:
* No change to underlying database
* No new fields
* No change to GEDCOM
It would make use of existing information already defined in the
database. It would use the “Relationship to Father” and “Relationship to
Mother” fields, and maybe also DNA fields.

It would only impact charts/reports that show connecting lines.
* No impact on reports like family group record report, Individual
report, book reports, etc
* It would impact Descendant chart, Pedigree chart, Ancestor chart,
Lineage chart, etc.
* It would impact Pedigree DISPLAY
* It would impact all(?) items under Legacy Charting

For me, I would think 2 connector line types would suffice (blood-line
or not blood-line), but I can see where some folks might like up to 4
line types:
* Red or solid = bloodline
* Green or long dash = legal document/court document (adopted, guardian,
etc)
* Blue or short dash = no legal/court document (raised by relative or
friend per family agreement)
* Black or dotted (optional?) = not specified or conflict or unclear
(conflict between DNA and Relationship fields, user created their own
custom item in Relationship field, etc)

Along with this change, there should be another change to the program
when adding a new child or parent (you may want to make this change
user-optional). The “child status” and the two “Relationship” fields
should either display right on the “Information” screen, or the
“Children’s Settings” screen should automatically pop up once the
“Information” screen is closed (or maybe the “children’s settings”
screen should display alongside the “Information” screen at the same
time). I would prefer it automatically display on the “Information”
screen, but I’m not sure how you would do this without confusion. Maybe
since you change the “Information” screen’s title based on how it is
opened, you should be able to use that same code to modify the screen.
For example, a section on the “Information” screen would pull the names
from the fields and say something like: “John’s (child’s) relationship
to Sam (father)” (obviously the names and the “father” or “mother” info
would change based on how it was pulled up). And “John’s (child’s)
status”. These fields would not show up if you were adding a new
unlinked individual.

Thank you for considering this change.
Bob Patton
