Re: [LegacyUG] One Drive
I wouldn't wait. I have had the Fall update for a while now. It's mainly a make it look like Windows 10 update with more business functionality. Main thing to remember when using any cloudy service provided storage for backup, is to only connect it when you need it. Crypto locking rasomware will also encrypt your OneDrive. I use Western Digital Passport drives with Microsoft's Sync Toy to make offline backups. I pop it in, run my backups and back it goes to work for offsite storage. Hello, One Drive is going to be updated with the installation of the upcoming 'Creator's Fall Update' for Win 10. I would wait until the update and then install One Drive. They were surprised when someone backed up a company, and someone else backed up 35TBs of video to OneDrive. They offered me Office 2016 and 1 TB of storage for a year. I will use it for the year, then go back to using my Google drive as the primary offsite storage. Watch for the Google security tuneup alerts, they give you an extra 2GB if you do the assessment. It adds up. Definitely cloud storage as long as you remember not to have the file open on both computers at the same time. Once you are done with the first computer close Legacy completely and allow OneDrive to sync before you try opening it on the second computer. If you have it open on two computers at the same time, and the files are different, and they sync at the same time you risk corrupting your database. Most people that have their working file up on OneDrive (or any cloud storage) are doing it so that they can access the file using more than one computer. If you aren't doing this then there is no reason to keep your working file on cloud storage BUT you might want to keep your backups there. That is what I do. RE: [LegacyUG] One Drive vs. Dropbox
Nancy, Can’t say anything about Dropbox because I do not use it. However, I do use OneDrive. I have not just my Legacy database file on OneDrive, but my full Genealogy folder (with many sub-folders) as backup data (media, including those not yet used in Legacy; text, Word, and other files), along with the files from a couple other genealogy software programs. I have no problems with OneDrive with the files syncing from one computer, to the cloud storage (OneDrive), and back to the second computer. Since I have Office 365 I have plenty of space on OneDrive for backup storage of files. [LegacyUG] One Drive vs. Dropbox
I know everyone seems to recommend Dropbox for syncing Legacy files between 2 computers, but I noticed I have much more available space on OneDrive vs. Dropbox. I know OneDrive syncs kind of slow compared to Dropbox, but will it work just as well?
