Re: [LegacyUG] Prompt for detail
I haven't gone back to check, but I don't think this has changed from v7. The prompt is for when you APPLY the Source Clipboard, not for when you set it up in the first place. The context-sensitive Help says "If you want to be prompted for the Source Detail each time you use the clipboard, check the *Prompt for Detail* box at the bottom of the window." I doubt there is any sort of timer/tracker on the Source Clipboard, so Legacy has no idea how much time has passed, or what you might have done, since setting up the clipboard. It doesn't know that mere seconds have passed, if that's the case. If the box is checked to prompt for Source Detail when you apply the source, it does just that. Hope this helps. :-) Wendy Jenny M Benson said the following on 11/01/2014 1:42 a.m.: > On 10/01/2014 03:38, Kathy Thompson wrote: >> Isn't it prompting you to double check that any notes or comments that >> need to be added have been added? >> > Yes, that's the idea. > > But the question appears after the Source Detail screen has opened, so > if you need to add/change anything you are already prompted by the > appearance of that screen, so it seems unnecessary to have the reminder > there but would be sensible to have it when you copy the Source so if > you know you won't be changing any Detail on this occasion you don't > have that screen open. Re: [LegacyUG] Prompt for detail
Isn't it prompting you to double check that any notes or comments that need to be added have been added? For example, I copy Jane's baptism register source, and paste it to her father's occupation event, prompted for detail I add in Text/Comments "Citation for daughter Jane's baptism, gives evidence of father's occupation" Or, Copy Fred's burial register source, paste to Fred's birth event, prompted for detail I add in Text/Comments "Citation for burial, register lists age thus implying approx year of birth" On 10 January 2014 01:21, Jenny M Benson wrote: > In Legacy 8 I have just set Option 7.4 to Default of Off, as I had it in > Legacy 7.5, because it was really annoying me that the Detail Screen > kept popping up until I remembered that I could switch it off. > > But it occurred to me that the prompt, when set to On, occurs too late. > The sequence is: > > 1 Enter Source Details. > 2 Copy Source to Clipboard. > 3 Paste Source Clipboard. > 4 The Source Detail screen appears with a ticked checkbox for Prompt > for detail. > > If you don't want to set the default of Off, but want to be able to > choose sometimes to be prompted, you want to be prompted at the time of > Copying to the Clipboard. [LegacyUG] Prompt for detail
In Legacy 8 I have just set Option 7.4 to Default of Off, as I had it in Legacy 7.5, because it was really annoying me that the Detail Screen kept popping up until I remembered that I could switch it off. But it occurred to me that the prompt, when set to On, occurs too late. The sequence is: 1 Enter Source Details. 2 Copy Source to Clipboard. 3 Paste Source Clipboard. 4 The Source Detail screen appears with a ticked checkbox for Prompt for detail. If you don't want to set the default of Off, but want to be able to choose sometimes to be prompted, you want to be prompted at the time of Copying to the Clipboard. If you could choose at that point, you could UNtick the box then happily roam around your family file going Paste, Paste, Paste without interruption. Very often I am only going to paste that Source once so presenting me with the Source Detail when I've already Pasted and then saying "do you want to be prompted for this?" is just silly! -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). [LegacyUG] Prompt for detail
When I click the -- icon to enter a source that is already on my clipboard, I am ordinarily shown the previous detail. That is no longer the case. The book icon changes from gray to colored and if I click on it, the detail is shown, but it is the first detail I entered, not the most recent detail. I went to Options>Customize>Sources and I have all the detail options checked. Also, on the "Source Clipboard, Prompt for Detail - Default to On" is selected. I am no longer seeing the "Prompt for Detail" option on the detail screen. I have Legacy Deluxe, most recent version/build. I also checked Options>Customize>Data Entry but saw nothing relevant there. What am I overlooking??
