Many thanks to all who replied and/or listened to my problem. It turns out
that my tech person had Word for V2016 but Excel for V2007 - so much for
paying all that money.

I do not think that you can download a csv file from Ancestry. Just
giving a file a name like filename.csv does not change the content. if
you downloaded a file from Ancestry it is probably a GEDCOM file which
is the standard format for genealogical files.

Rename the file to filename.ged
Open Legacy and use file > Import > GEDCOM file
when you have finished the import from filename.ged
Go to View > Name List
Click Options > Print
Now you will be able to define up to three rows of data you can include
for each person.
Select CSV file in the lower right
The print box in the upper right will change to Create
Click create
In the dialog box select the folder where you want to save the file and
assign a file name
Click save
Remember where you saved that file
Open Excel then open the file you exported from legacy.

Been on the phone to Microsoft yesterday waiting for over 6.25 hours when
the phone rang out of batttery. Been on the phone again now for 37 minutes.
What I have done is: Open an excel file, select the file I want to open and
try to open this when the excel page then goes blue with no grid. Would it
be OK for me to ring you please ?

I always put the RIN after a person's name in Notes (such as listing the
household members in a Census) and add the RINs to lists etc, so it is
always easy to distinguish people who have the same name. (I have 9
people in my family file named Abraham Molyneux!)

You are missing that you can include the Hashtags when you customise the

Hi again.

I have generated census lists for all the censuses appropriate to my
people. And I can give them a hashtag such as '1911_check' to indicate
that I should check the census in 1911 for that individual. Of course
some individuals get more than one hashtag.

I'd like to get a list of individuals and the hashtags that apply to

I can build a search list of all those with hashtag 1911_check or
1901_check etc, but can't export the resulting search list to a CSV
with the hashtags displayed.

Am I missing something? I there a way to generate a CSV file showing
the hashtags for an individual?

Thanks

[LegacyUG] CSV file with hashtags

2018-03-03 Thread Teresa Williams
Hi again.

I have generated census lists for all the censuses appropriate to my people.
And I can give them a hashtag such as '1911_check' to indicate that I should
check the census in 1911 for that individual. Of course some individuals get
more than one hashtag.

I'd like to get a list of individuals and the hashtags that apply to them as a
CSV file to track my checking (there's a LOT of checking to do). Searching one
hashtag at a time gives me 8 CSV files, but these are not easily merged: the
David Smith tagged 1841 and 1851 may not be the same David Smith tagged 1861.

I can build a search list of all those with hashtag 1911_check or 1901_check
etc, but can't export the resulting search list to a CSV with the hashtags
displayed.

Am I missing something? I there a way to generate a CSV file showing the
hashtags for an individual?

Thanks
Teresa
