RE: [LegacyUG] Elizabeth City (a county), VA error message

2012-08-17 Thread Robert Austen
Hi,

I don't get an error message with "Wythe Magisterial District, Elizabeth City,
Virginia, United States" or with "Wythe Magisterial District, Elizabeth City,
Virginia, USA". I am using build 7.5.0.201. 'Verify USA Counties in Place
Names' is on.

RE: [LegacyUG] Elizabeth City (a county), VA error message

2012-08-17 Thread mbstx
Langley AFB in in Hampton now. I entered exactly what was on the 1940 census
page:

Wythe Magisterial District, Elizabeth City, Virginia, United States

I got the error message that "Elizabeth City was not a county in 1940 in
Virginia, please check County Verifier." When I opened the County Verifier,
there was Elizabeth City in the County column, with dates of 1634 to 1952. So
the error message was incorrect. Marianne

I have the information entered correctly, with the "city" of  "Wythe Magisterial District" (again, per the census page) and the comma in the correct place.  I still got the error message even tho it was entered correctly.  MY question was why that error popped up, the Elizabeth City is in the County Verfiier list.  Marianne-Original Message-

Elizabeth City, VA shows in the USA County Verifier as being in existance between 1634 and 1952. Make sure you have the location entered correctly as , Elizabeth City, Virginia

Or a comma in place of the "city" if you don't know the city. It was merged into the city of Hampton in 1952.There's no reference to it being renamed to Northampton in 1642.

Accawmack was renamed "Northampton" in 1642. Sincerely, Sherry Technical Support Legacy Family Tree

BUT the county verifier clearly shows "Elizabeth City" as a County in VA from 1634 to 1952!  Parent county: original shire; no progeny counties; name changed to Northampton 1642.

So which is it???

Wikipedia says it was still a county under the name Elizabeth City in 1952.

I am not exactly sure, but the City of Hampton was incorporated as an
Independent City in 1908. Elizabeth City County still existed but more toward
Newport News which became part of Elizabeth City in 1928. Langley Air Force
Base is within the boundaries of the City of Hampton (Independent City). The
two cities are adjacent to each other. Please verify this.
