Re: Eye surgery tommorrow

2023-04-11 Thread Thomas Passin
Good luck! I've had the surgery for both eyes. I'd be surprised if you
were out of commission for as long as a day. One thing is that you will
probably need reading glasses, and a different strength will work better
for computer work vs reading books. I ended up getting cheap drugstore
packs of +2.75 diopter glasses for reading. I keep a pair in each room in
the house that I usually read in. That's so I don't need to walk around
with a pair, which leads to losing them or at least not having one when you
need it. I also keep another pair in the car. They aren't that expensive,
so it's affordable to have all these pairs of drugstore glasses.

I got an optician-grade pair of +2.00 diopters for computer work, and it
never leaves the computer desk for any reason.

This assumes that you will get corrected to 20/20 or better, without much
astigmatism, as I was. Also, I'm talking about the glasses you will want
after both eyes get done. I don't remember how I managed when only the
first one had been corrected...

Eye surgery tommorrow

2023-04-11 Thread Edward K. Ream
It's routine cataract surgery. I may be out of commission for a day or
three.

Heads up: PR #3277 coming soon

2023-04-11 Thread Edward K. Ream

PR #3277 changes
g.os_path_finalize and g.os_path_finalize_join. The PR renames these as
g.finalize and g.finalize_join, indicating that they do not have
counterparts in Python's os.path module.

The PR changes 51 files, but most changes involve only the renaming just
discussed.

The PR carefully discusses changes to 5 functions and methods.

I am tempted to merge the PR immediately, but I'll wait just a bit longer.

A couple of questions and remarks about the UI

2023-04-11 Thread chr...@gmail.com
Hello,

1. "Outline Indicators" in settings: are they the v-shaped gizmo icons that
expand or collapse trees?

2. If yes, I can't replace them by linking to icons such as those in the
"plusminus" subfolder. is this functionality deprecated? I'm not using a
theme, and my settings start with
@bool color_theme_is_dark = False
@string theme-name = None
I succeeded in replacing the headline boxes by placing mine at the top
level of the "icons" subfolder and naming them box## accordingly (replacing
the original files).

3. Multi-selecting headlines: click on headline, and shift-click on another
one above or below. The first clicked headline gets deselected, unlike
every other application in the universe. Please consider fixing this.

4. After all these years, "Demote node / Promote node" should really be
called what it does: "Demote children / Promote children", or "Demote
subtree / Promote Subtree".

Best Regards,

Chris R.
