  # Begin /boot/grub/grub.cfg

  set root=(hd0,7)

  menuentry LFS7, Linux 3.12.5-lfs-7.4 {
  linux /boot/lfskernel-3.12.5 root=/dev/sda6 ro

  How is this? Spelling is all correct in /boot. The host 'LFS6' boots fine.

 You're missing set root=(hd0,6) for in the LFS7 menu entry.

Yes thanks that boots the new system okay but leaves lfs6unbootable .  I.e no
file found.  There must be some kind of syntax error here somewher.

 Instead of global set root statement, define it in each menu entry like
 this:

 menuentry LFS6, Linux 3.12.1-lfs-7.2 {
  set root=(hd0,7)
  linux /boot/lfskernel-3.12.1 root=/dev/sda7 ro
 }

 menuentry LFS7, Linux 3.12.5-lfs-7.4 {
  set root=(hd0,6)
  linux /boot/lfskernel-3.12.5 root=/dev/sda6 ro

Yes had researched that but many thanks now working.

Wireless setup

2009-02-04 Thread Cliff McDiarmid
Hi

I'm new to wireless and am trying to set it up on LFS6.4 using the
setup in BLFS under
http://wiki.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/wiki/WirelessTools.
Two problems:

The wireless script provided at
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~jciccone/wireless won't load
wpa_supplicant. The command wpa_supplicant -Bw
-c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -i${1} is not being run. I can input
this by hand after booting and its fine , but it will not run from
the script.

The second problem involves dhcpcd. I can bring up my connection
to the router by hand with 'dhcpcd wlan0'(after running
supplicant), but if I run it from its script at boot time I get no
connection. I have to delete its pid and then input by hand again.
   I've attached some of the files for viewing can someone help me
to get online from bootup automatically.

thanks

   I think that's the second of these this week! Cliff, what on
 earth did you do to end up with -gnuoldld ?

Installed elfutils and its own linker by the look of it, although I'm still
getting errors.

Script problem

2006-01-02 Thread Cliff McDiarmid
On the 2.1.06 Allard wrote:

What version of find (findutils) is running? I could be wrong but I
don't think older versions of find have the -delete option, hence the
message from find.

Simply type find --version or better still man find and search for
delete.

The command involved is trying to delete all files in /tmp except
lost+found - check it out in /etc/rc.d/init.d/cleanfs

That was it. For some reason I installed 4.1, which was never going to work.
I suspected it was a package problem, just needed the hint.

many thanks

Script problem

2006-01-01 Thread Cliff McDiarmid
Hi

I've just completed LFS 6.1 and rebooted. I get the following error from the
cleanfs script:

Cleaning file systems: /tmpfind: invalid predicate `-delete'

This can't be a misprint so what have I missed?

thanks

Itables/firewall problem

2005-10-18 Thread Cliff McDiarmid
Hi

Following the firewall setup in BLFS 6.1, I've got a problem at boot time with
'nat' table support. All the options chosen for netfiltering are built into
the kernel, i.e. I'm not loading any modules and I've disabled the loading of
modules at the beginning of the itables start-up script. I get the following
error at boot time, although the firewall is up:

FATAL: Module ip_tables not found.
iptables v1.3.3: can't initialize iptables table `nat': Table does not exist
(do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

AFAIK I've chosen the right options for netfiltering, here's a section of my
.config file:
