[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 81104] New: Deleting columns messes up cell display

2014-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81104

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 81104
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Deleting columns messes up cell display
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: mihovil.sta...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: NEW
   Version: 4.2.5.2 release
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 102486
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=102486action=edit
Test ODS file

LibreOffice 4.2.5
Windows 7 64bit
Problem isn't present in 4.1.6 so it's introduced in 4.2.

Load test ODS file.
Select columns B:H (by clicking on column letter so you select whole column).
Delete columns B:H.

Expected result:
Only column A should be visible, everything else should be empty cells.

Result:
Column A is visible, but also some reminents of deleted columns, check attached
picture.

Clues:
It has something to do with column width.
1. If I set WHOLE SHEET columns to AUTO width (marking whole sheet and then
double click between any two columns), problem isn't present any more.
2. If I set every column in sheet to same width (marking whole sheet and then
set width for any sigle column), problem isn't present any more.

Problem is visible only when some columns have different width then other and
that isn't result of auto-width column option.

has debugutil turned on adding a ton of different checks that seriously distort
the performance picture. ... will try to get Matus' builds up-loaded. Either
way - here I guess it is the 4 million calls to ScTable::ValidQuery that are
causing the grief =)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 54933] EDITING Report builder: mouse-move control: gap between mouse position

2014-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54933

--- Comment #23 from Steven M Campbell bugzi...@scampbell.net ---
Here's a good way to recreate the issue and a workaround. The issue occurs
when sections of the report have a minimum height.

Create a report with a few groups with group headings then, in design mode, use
the 'Shrink' control to make the group headings and sections as small as
possible then attempt to move an object on the screen, the mouse pointer will
be significantly offset from the object as you move it and it will jump from
section to section due to the misalignment. This should recreate the issue
easily.

A temporary workaround for folks encountering this issue is to just open the
report sections up some and shrink them when you're done.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 80682] Spreadsheet crashes after modifying data

2014-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80682

--- Comment #2 from MRPI matthias.rum...@dignum.de ---
Hi,
thank you for answering.
Well, the problem exists within many versions from 2.X to current.
Lately, I have tried 4.2.5.0 and 4.2.5.2 (one on Intel, the other on AMD).
Compared with 3.X the 4.2 is about 50% slower.
And the problem seems to occur even earlier / more frequent:
Inserting / modifying up to ten charts in Version 3 before it crashed,
now (version 4) it seems it crashes already at about six charts.

As I said, this problem exists in all versions.
It is reproducible in Calc and Writer.

I would hope (really!) this bug gets fixed sometimes sooon.

Kind regards
Matt

Confirming.

On Windows 7 sp1, 64-bit en-US with NVDA 2014.2 with
Version: 4.3.0.2
Build ID: 14ed55896fdfcb93ff437b85c4f3e1923d2b1409

TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-07-09_02:51:54

There is a focus issue on launch of Calc.

Simple to work around by navigate with F2 to formula bar and then back, the
cell address and content is then announced. Further navigation with cursor
(L,R,U,D) does announce cell address and numerical content.

If cell is empty it is still announcing Zero (bug 74441).

And, noticed today that non-numeric (text string) cell content incorrectly
being rendered as zero, it will render correctly from the F2 formula bar.
Will open a new issue for this.

 [3]Comment # 2 on [4]bug 81026 from [5]sophie

Hi, can you provide your original odp file? what is the format of the image?
Thanks - set as Needinfo until we get the file. Sophie

I am using LibreOffice 4.2.5.2 (latest version) with Ubuntu 14.04.

I put an example of a corrupted .odp file at this URL

http://www.phy.duke.edu/~hsg/bad-impress-file.odp

look at slides 15 and 16. You can compare this with a PDF export of
the .odp file that I made

http://www.phy.duke.edu/~hsg/bad-impress-file.pdf

before the file became corrupted.

Most of the images that disappear are in .png format, e.g., I used the
Ubuntu screen capture utility Screenshot to grab part of some image on
the screen (typically from some web page), then copy and paste the
image directly into LibreOffice Impress without saving it into a file.

I believe there have been some cases though where the missing image
came from importing the image from an external file, rather than
copying and pasting. But most of the problems seem to be with images
that were pasted directly into Impress.

As others have pointed out, this bug is extremely alarming and
frustrating since it means that I can't tell in advance whether one of
of my presentation files will display correctly, and it can take a lot
of time to recover the images and repair the problem. The bug is also
happening frequently, just about every Impress (.odp) file I have
created during the last few weeks has lost some images upon opening a
saved .odp file.

LibreOffice should make this a very high priority to fix since Impress
is currently too unreliable to use, and this means that my Linux based
computers are not usable for preparing talks until this is fixed.

   Thanks,

   Henry

well exported to pdf. Left as unconfirmed as I can't reproduce even with my

Sophie,

What you are asking for seems impossible to satisfy: I don't know if
the bug has occurred until I open up a saved .odp file and find the
images missing. At that point, there is no original file to give you,
the file has been irreversibly damaged.

Somehow saving the .odp file is what is causing the corruption since
the file is ok while I am actively using Impress. So how am I supposed
to give you an original file and its corrupted version since I can't save
the file without corrupting it?

Can you try creating a .odp Impress file, pasting in an image created
with Screenshot (or someother screen capture utility), saving the
file, and then seeing if the saved file is corrupted (image not
accessible)?

Since this bug happens frequently for me and for others, it needs to
be addressed by LibreOffice, it is a very serious bug.

If you can't reproduce the bug, then, based on my own experience in
writing a lot of code, someone will need to rewrite the part of the
Impress code that handles inserting images until the code is more
clear and more concise. At some point, the bug will be accidently
eliminated (by writing better and different code) or because it
the code is so clear that it becomes obvious why there is a bug.

Thanks,

Henry

I suspect the openCL code is ignoring the use-regexp-in-formulas which is

Hmm - it is also somewhat amusing that the only debuginfo build we have -
also has debugutil turned on adding a ton of different checks that seriously
distort the performance picture. ... will try to get Matus' builds
 up-loaded.

So i'm assuming valgrind/callgrind can go faster if that is turned off, right?

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 81026] Exporting .odf file to pdf caused figures to disappear from the .odf file, figures were not exported correctly to pdf file either. (Serious bugs!)

2014-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81026

One other thought:

I have thought of saving some of the .odp files in .pptx format as a
backup but found this was not practical because the conversion of .odp
to .pptx also has some significant bugs in which certain images (e.g.,
created by the TexMaths equation program) and certain text (display of
bullets) are not exported correctly to the .pptx file.

See slide 10 of these two files:

http://www.phy.duke.edu/~hsg/good-file.odp

http://www.phy.duke.edu/~hsg/good-file.pptx

as an example where the conversion from .odp to .pptx is not done
correctly.

Perhaps this is a bug related to missing images since the TexMaths
program creates a standard image (GIF?) that should be handled
straightforwardly when exporting.

Thanks,

Henry

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 44932] Writer PRINTING: Printing on bottom of envelopes appears bottom-up

2014-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44932

--- Comment #21 from Gene geneb...@fastmail.fm ---
Tested envelop printing yesterday and to my surprise it worked correctly.
1. Linux Mint 17 patched current.
2, LibreOffice version 4.2.5
3. Epson printer drivers for Epson Artisan 830 generic driver
(epson-inkjet-printer-escpr_1.4.0-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb) dated 03-10-2014
4. Printing from 4.2.4.2 still does not work using Ubuntu 14.04 patched
current. Not certain if it is the same printer driver as above. If not the
driver is Espon's full feathered driver
(epson-inkjet-printer-artisan-725-835-series_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb). This
driver is dated 02-07/2012 on the download page. I will upgrade to 4.2.5.2 and
see if there is a change, and update the bug report.

Only issue I saw was the envelopes must be inserted differently than for the
other OS I use (sadly MS Win 7), Seems odd. I would think the envelop
orientation would be the same and conform to an Epson standard for proper
orientation of the envelopes in the paper tray.

1) On the same computer the problem with both the password protected

2) the keyboard only gets stuck when you complete the password by pressing

explains why #2 it seems to not reproduce.

Problem description:

When creating drawings for publications, one typically needs a page size as
large as the drawing itself.

Currently, this result is hard to achieve. One needs to work on a standard page
size larger than the drawing (e.g. A4). Then the drawing is exported to PDF and
finally the PDF is cropped with the pdfcrop utility from the command line.

It would be nice if Libreoffice draw knew how to automatically adjust th page
size to the actual elements that are drawn on the page.

Inkscape has a similar functionality that is in fact quite useful. In inkscape
this is accessed by Document properties - Page size - Resize page to content.

Would be nice if LibO drawing program could get a similar functionality in its
Format-Page window.

But we just tried to follow the triaging procedure. Many bugs have more
critical importance, like crash case without any workarounds.

Please define Critical Importance!

I don't check every single bug or fix appearing on the dev ML, but for some
reason this caught my attention. I recently submitted a quotation for a sizable
project, based on calculations made in a complex Calc 4.2.5.2 spreadsheet and
the client happily accepted. While reading this bug report I recalled having
made a couple similar deletions in my spreadsheet. Having applied your
workaround kluge to my spreadsheet, I discover that my quotation was 1,000
Euros (around US$ 1,350) below the nearest competitor's offer. Since you do not
consider this bug to be of what you dismissively describe as NOT Critically
Important, then please contact me by PM and we can arrange for you to transfer
this (non-critical) loss from your bank account to mine.

Your measure of Critical Importance being like crash case without any
workarounds is only half correct. Ask yourself why we care if LO crashes or
not and you will probably answer something to effect that Users will lose
confidence in the software and stop using it. Likewise, if users cannot trust
LO to perform as we say it will, they will lose confidence in the software and
stop using it, which means that we have all been wasting our time.

--- Comment #3 from Joel Madero jmadero@gmail.com ---
So a bit of my input here. What is happening is that if a value is empty then
it treats it like the check mark in Range Contains Column Headers as non
existent and thus there are no headers. If you put in TITLE2 in B1 (currently
you have this as empty) then select TITLE to delta2 and do the sort, it works
as expected.

So here is the proposed solution: We just trust the user to select what they
want, and if Range Contains Column Headers is selected, even if all headers
are blank, we treat these like headers and they are not sorted with the sort.

So I am marking this as:
New
Enhancement Request - works as expected but for functionality purposes this
seems like a good idea
Low - relatively straight forward work around, don't select the headers and
uncheck the Range Contains Headers button.

I attach a prototype patch that adds a single item text search cache - to avoid
calling ICU endlessly for the same strings; I see a huge number of repeated
back-to-back string matching ~and this (I guess) should speed that up. Whether
that is in the right place or not is unclear to me - I'd love input from Eike -
and the patch is unfinished; need to cleanup the ScQueryEntry struct to make
this cleaner. Also - of course it is to some degree dependent on the data as to
whether that is at all useful. Still - it saves 10 seconds of the 35 that it
costs to calculate this document for me.

It's best to treat this empty number cell case from a file format similar to
an empty cell that is used in calculations, where it is treated as zero. Having
already a (even if maybe technically correct) NaN set also disallows
calculations with that value, and applying number formats to a Nan may generate
unexpected display strings.

external tool
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: sergio.calleg...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.3.0.2 rc
 Component: Drawing
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:

Open a drawing containing a png image and try to edit it using the 'edit ith
external tool function'. When saving the file edited in the external tool and
closing the external tool, libreoffice hangs for a few seconds and then
crashes.

# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:

# Problematic frame:
# C  [libsvxcorelo.so+0x3b8021]  SdrEditView::ReplaceObjectAtView(SdrObject*,
SdrPageView, SdrObject*, unsigned char)+0x61

This is systematic.

Tried with the gimp as an external editing tool.

Issue also happens with LibO stable 4.2 (tested 4.2.5)

Issue also happens when trying to achieve the same goal with cut and paste.

Copy bitmap, paste as new in the gimp, edit in the gimp, select all in the
gimp, copy, paste in LibO while having the previous bitmap selected so as to
replace it with unaltered size and position.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.3.0.2 rc

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 81122] EDITING: Libreoffice crashes when editing bitmaps with external tool

This is probably a regression. I would not be able to say when, but I am pretty
sure that this used to work, at least by the cut-and-paste method, in the past.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 81123] StrPtr - unsupported function (BASIC Runtime Error '35')

2014-07-09 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81123

--- Comment #1 from Anton Kochkov anton.koch...@gmail.com ---
See short note about StrPtr:

StrPtr is used primarily to make efficient UNICODE API calls. In VB4, API
calls to a UNICODE function were made with the help of byte arrays:

Declare Sub MyUnicodeCall Lib MyUnicodeDll.Dll _
  (pStr As Byte)

   Sub MakeCall(MyStr As String)
  Dim bTmp() As Byte
  bTmp = MyStr  vbNullChar
  MyUnicodeCall bTmp(0)
  MyStr = bTmp
  MyStr = Left$(MyStr, Len(MyStr - 1))
   End Sub

Clearly, the amount of work to simply pass a NULL terminated UNICODE string
and return its value into the original string is totally unacceptable. By the
time correct handling of the terminating NULL character is included, No less
than 4 copies of the string are required.

With StrPtr, this code reduces to:

Declare Sub MyUnicodeCall Lib MyUnicodeDll.Dll _
  (ByVal pStr As Long)

   Sub MakeCall(MyStr As String)
  MyUnicodeCall StrPtr(MyStr)
   End Sub

VarPtr/StrPtr/ObjPtr are all very, very fast, so the overhead to call a
UNICODE function is now actually lower than calling the corresponding ANSI
function because no conversion is required.

StrPtr can also be used to optimize ANSI declare calls. Instead of passing
the same string variable multiple times to a declare function and incurring the
conversion overhead for each call, use the StrConv function once and StrPtr in
each call:

Declare Sub MyAnsiCall Lib MyAnsiDll.Dll _
  (ByVal pStr As String)

   MyAnsiCall MyStr

becomes:

Declare Sub MyAnsiCall Lib MyAnsiDll.Dll _
  (ByVal pStr As Long)

   MyStr = StrConv(MyStr, vbFromUnicode)
   MyAnsiCall StrPtr(MyStr)
MyStr = StrConv(MyStr, vbUnicode) ' Not always required

StrPtr is also the only way to tell the different between an empty string
() and a null string (vbNullString). StrPtr(vbNullString) returns 0, while
StrPtr() is non-zero.
