[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42693] New: There should be a warning if transparency cannot be rendered by an export filter

2011-11-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42693

 Bug #: 42693
Summary: There should be a warning if transparency cannot be
rendered by an export filter
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.3 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drawing
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: ulrich.wi...@rz.uni-regensburg.de

When exporting a drawing that uses transparent areas, some export filters (e.g.
WMF) use a solid fill instead. There is no warning during export about that
fact.
I don't know if WMF could do transparency (if so, that would be another bug),
but a warning would be nice.
(PNG exports do transparency properly, but lack good resolution; SVG exports do
transparency, but the writer cannot import (or at least display) SVG images)

So either support transparency better, or at least warn now that transparent
areas aren't properly rendered.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42692] New: SVG export ignores "Selection" option

2011-11-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42692

 Bug #: 42692
Summary: SVG export ignores "Selection" option
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.3 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drawing
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: ulrich.wi...@rz.uni-regensburg.de

When trying to export a "selection" as SVG, the whole page is exported instead
of the selected part (other export filters do it properly).
Note: IMHO there should be an "export" component in bugzilla

   necessary)
3. Meneu 'Insert -> Table'
a table 2 rows 5 columns will be inserted, everything looks fine

Yes, I believe GerardF's comment describes an additional problem that is not
relevant here. In this bug we only try to find a solution that LibO will be
listed as alternative to MS-Office for MS-Office documents (but not as default
program to edit those documents)?!

Can you please try to add some info so that someone who never used a footnote
in his life can understand the problem? Useful would be
- a mockup
- how your workaround works (sample document, every key press / mouse click)
- how you expect a soulution (not "here should then be a new set of
«Before»/«After» fields", but "In click ... then dialog ..." and
  so on

Probably a Unity related problem. Could you try in a Gnome session? You could
also ask for help in an Ubuntu forum. Or install vanilla version from
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
First of all, close LibreOffice, rename ~/.libreoffice, delete
~/.openoffice.org if any and restart LibreOffice

What is your meaning of "a formal submission" here? If it means "step-by-step

Hi.
What is there to understand? Does not print top line of the stroke. I have
attached a scanned document, which was printed from the first attachment. I
also put the result export to PDF.

Second. Way out was found. To print the top line to add a blank line above the
table and make a stroke from the bottom. Then the line is printed.

Sorry, but the translator can translate poorly? I am Russian-speaking.

--- Comment #5 from Mike Finch 2011-11-07 18:08:07

Rainer : I appreciate your effort in composing your detailed reply

When I referred to DD-MM- format I should have said DD-MMM-YY. Sorry.

In your email you seem to be dealing with two spreadsheets IN ISOLATION. I
meant copying from ONE TO
THE OTHER!

I've just tried this (in 3.4.3) and am absolutely astonished : the first try
gave no change, the
second WENT BACK one day!!! Neither advanced one day!?!?

I'm all at sea now! There seems to be inconsistency going on[?].

If I right click on a date : Format cells... : Numbers : Date, there seem to be
a different number
of options in the list than choosing a blank cell (in a blank spreadsheet).

Anyway I'm downright confused now.

Could you please have a go at copy/pasting between different spreadsheets and
see how you go?

Also what prompted me to use bugzilla was the very weird sensation of seeing
the year advanced by
four - into the future; it so happens that I'd frozen the column(s) containing
the dates (two
columns at the LHS).

This is another problem that needs a solution.

If you concur that there is weirdness going on then I will make an effort to
put in a formal
submission.

This problem still exists on 3.4.3.

I am also having problems printing I posted the following in Nabble.

http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Libre-Draw-Print-Problem-td3488558.html

"It appears that Libreoffice 3.4.3 draw has some serious bugs in printing out,
this problem is not in Openoffice 3.3 draw.
It happens on prints to a Canon Pixma. Samsung laser & to the XPS printer.

This is what we get when we print.

This is what Openoffice prints.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42686] New: When saving writer documents last cursor position is not saved

2011-11-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42686

 Bug #: 42686
Summary: When saving writer documents last cursor position is
not saved
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: LibO 3.4.3 release
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: silva...@katamail.com

When writing, and especially when revising a text document, on many subsequent
instances, is is very handy to have LO to reopen the file placing you at the
page/cursor location you left when last saving the document. This helps a lot
to keep track of the point from where you should restart your editing work.
However, LO 3.4.3 does not appear to save this location anymore for .odt files,
while OO 3.3 and previous always did.
If you have to switch between many tasks frequently and are used to edit your
writer files repeatedly for relatively short time spans, this feature is sorely
missing. Right now, as a workaround, I have to insert a specific note in the
file showing the place where I left it when saving.
Thanks for the attention,

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 42673] Calc hangs when opening .ods files

2011-11-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42673

--- Comment #6 from erikmjac...@gmail.com 2011-11-07
15:10:35 UTC ---
What an annoying problem. I figured out the fix.

Someone on IRC suggested that spoolsv had to do with printers:
17:09 spoolsv.exe is a Microsoft Windows system executable which
handles the printing process to your local printers.

After some sleuthing, I realized that I have a network-connected printer that
was offline. Apparently this makes Windows 7 *extremely* angry. After much
dorking around, I was able to remove this printer.

Guess what? Calc starts up just fine!

This leads me to believe that there is a more sinister issue at hand. Why
would .xls files and .odt files open just fine, but .ods files hang? What was
it about this particular file that caused Calc to really want to get down with
the printers and to hang because this printer was not connected?

I will change the title of the bug.

While googling for this problem, I saw some messages where calc wabts to
resolve the hostname of its own system, which can easily be solved with an
entry in /etc/host, but here calc also wants to resolve urls inside the

In strace.log, you see excactly how long it takes to open the file and you can
also see what url resolving is going on (the file contains www.citibank.be and
keytrade.be) and what additional ssl and certificates that are not mentioned in
the file calc also wants to resolve.

I do not understand at all what you are talking about. I Can't see what you
complain.

May I ask you to read hints on
carefully?
Then please:
- Write a meaningful Summary
- Attach screenshots WITH COMMENTS if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
- Contribute a step by step instruction containing every key press and every
mouse click how to reproduce your problem (and if possible how to created a
  sample document from the scratch)
- add information
  -- what EXACTLY unexpected
-- and why do you believe it's unexpected (cite Help or Documentation!)
  -- concerning your PC
  -- concerning your OS (Language)
-- concerning your LibO localization (UI language)
–- Libo settings that might be related to your problems
(video hardware acceleration ...)
-- how you launch LibO and how you opened the sample document
–- If you can contribute an OOo Issue that might be useful
-- everything else crossing your mind after you read linked texts

opens another window) doesn't bring up that window.
3. If, having selected Find..., you type some text that is in the spreadsheet
(which isn't displayed because the window isn't displayed) and press Enter, it
will scroll to that cell in the spreadsheet.

Current behavior: Find (or Paste Special) window doesn't appear

Where is the user profile stored in Windows 7?

I attempted a complete uninstall/reinstall before I posted the bug:
- Uninstall all Libreoffice
- Uninstall all Visual C++
- Uninstall all Java
- Remove everything I could find (Program Files (x86), Program Data/Libre
Office, AppData/Roaming/Libreoffice, etc).
- Reinstall

The problem persisted, which is then why I posted the bug.

Are there any debug modes or other logging that I can do on Windows here?

When you press Ctrl-F to open "Find" within document a toolbar is opened at the
bottom of the document that allows you to enter the word(s) that you want to
search for. If you select the drop down menu for this tool bar and select
"close toolbar" the Find tool interface disappears, but the tool bar stays
open. To get the toolbar to fully close you must deselect the "View -> Status
Bar." On small screen the lost of screen real state by not closing properly is
annoying.

Recently went to open .ods files that I have never had problems with. When
trying to open, calc will come up but hang and never completes opening the
file. The files open fine with zip utilities as well as with LibreOffice on
other OS (Linux).

It appears to be this computer and not necessarily LibreOffice itself. If
there are any ways to debug please let me know and I will provide additional
information. I will upload a sample file shortly that suffers from this issue.
Note that new files that are saved and some old files do not appear to be
affected.

Hmm, I am unable to reproduce the crash. I tested it on two machines. I wonder
if you have other fonts or extensions installed, or so.

Unfortunately, the backtrace is not much useful without debug information. I
see that you have the binaries under /usr/lib/libreoffice => it is not the
official build from http://www.documentfoundation.org/

What Linux distro are you using?
Could you please install debuginfo packages and get a better backtrace?

3. Select "Document" in the combo box in the "Table" panel in the top right

Build ID: dc06023-82728f1-ca7e6f5-3b66bd0-3cbbc64
- the second picture does not appears in the file opened by the master
- strange characters are there
- the size of the modified RTF file is smaller than the original !

But:
- no problem for me with lock
- the modified RTF file opens quite well in Abiword 2.8.2

Best regards. JBF

I understand. At least for me it's one of the few last big mysteries how
WINDOWS decides what programs should be listed as "Alternative Editors" (or how
you want to call it). It seems if I asked often enough WIN accepts my wish.

I doubt that it's a bug, but it might be a nice feature (may be for an
Extension). Let's gain some more knowledge first, I will ask on

Libre Office Calc crashed for me when dragging more than one cell from one
space to the other in a spreadsheet. If I move them one by one, however, the
crash does not occur.

Specifically, my output during the crash are these

QPixmap: It is not safe to use pixmaps outside the GUI thread
QPixmap: It is not safe to use pixmaps outside the GUI thread
QPixmap: It is not safe to use pixmaps outside the GUI thread

3 lines, regardless of whether I try to move two or 50 cells.

False alert almost certainly. The chance of a mingw compile (cross-compiled
from a clean known Linux system) creating a trojan is almost exactly nil.

We get a steady stream of false reports from anti-virus vendors I'm afraid.

No feature (I have a little experience with LibO)! May be my wording was
misinterpretative?

Steps to reproduce with Server installation of Master "LibO-dev 3.5.0 – WIN7
Home
Premium (64bit) English UI [(Build ID: d3d1481-3f8994a-2ba0a9f)]" (110909)

1. Start soffice.exe
2. Open "modele_dec_he_so.rtf" from start center
As expected it opens, ".~lock.modele_dec_he_so.rtf#" appears in
   document folder
3. Menu 'File -> Close'
As expected document opens, lockfile disappears
4. Menu 'File -> Open - "modele_dec_he_so.rtf"
   Expected: can be opened
   Closed: Message as described.

The document remains locked, also can not be opened with another instance of
LibO (3.4.4 RC2) until Libo Master will have been terminated.

Deployed this 100+ Windows XP Pro 32-bit (Greek) SP3. Screenshot shows a system
that has both MS Office and LibO 3.4.3 installed. I can not produce a
screenshot with the shortcuts not missing in LibO. Instead, I have provided a
screenie with Oo 3.3 that depicts that these shortcuts are not missing in
Oo.Soecifically, you can see that for a MS Word file (.doc), apart from the
default option to open the file with MS Word, an option is also given to open
it with OpenOffice Writer. This option and the similar ones are the ones
missing.

> Did you check all MS doc types during installation?
As I described in the original report, LibO is used alongside MS Office. I do
*not* wish to associate LibO with .doc/.xls/.ppt files! Installation is
performed via group policy, leaving REGISTER_ALL_MSO_TYPES to 0.

When I had Oo (and not LibO), it did the following:
* MS Office files remained associated with MS Office
* selecting "Open With..." on a MS Office filetype from windows explorer
displayed options to open the MS Office file (eg a .doc) with Openoffice Write.

The latter does not happen in LibO 3.4.3

The drop-down list at the bottom of the Navigator in Writer is not updated if
you open a second document. If more than one document is opened and one of
these documents is closed, the drop-down list also is not updated. In order to
reproduce the bug do the following.
1. Open a document (A) in Writer and display the Navigator (F5).
2. Open a second document (B). The Navigator is already displayed.
3. Display the opened documents by clicking the down-arrow at the bottom of the
Navigator window. Both documents are displayed. OK!
4. Change to document A. (Alt-Tab or with the menu: Window > Document A)
5. Display the opened documents by clicking the down-arrow at the bottom of the
Navigator window. Only Document A is displayed. Bug!
6. Close the Navigator and open it again (F5). Now both documents are displayed
at the bottom of the Navigator.
7. Change to Document B. Both documents are displayed at the bottom of the
navigator.
8. Close Document B.
9. Change to Document A, if not already displayed.
10. Display the opened documents at the bottom of the Navigator. Document B is
still displayed, though it has been closed. Bug!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FOLLOWING AFFECTS BOTH THE WORD PROCESSOR AS WELL AS THE
SPREADSHEET COMPONENTS AND NOT ONLY THE LATTER ONE

Problem description:

I have been operating an installation of approximately 150+ pc's having
OpenOffice/LibreOffice deployed via active directory group policy. Recently, I
made a large switch to LibreOffice 3.4.3. Ever since I have been receiving tons
of complains for slow loading times, from former Oo users. The Oo version that
was installed was 3.3.

Checking things out I can see that the Libreoffice installation is mammoth:
~1Gb on disk. Of course this might not have anything to do with the startup
times. OTOH though:

* watching event viewer I can see it takes more than 10" for the Libreoffice
splash screen to appear. This happens after soffice.bin has allocated memory in
the region of 120-140Mbytes... The application finally opens after some more
10-15". At that time LibO consumes around 120Mb of RAM. Note that my PCs mostly
have 512Mb of RAM (Windows XP 32-bit clients, with the Panda AV bloat). And
yes, I know that is not much, however we are running a very tight budget here.
* we did not have the same behavior with Oo 3.3

Some tests:
a) Blank worksheet document:
122Mb RAM used by LibO (3.4.3 final) and 110 by Oo (3.3)
b) A two worksheet small (~57Kbyte) Excel file: 186Mbyte used by LibO compared
to 106 used by Oo! Obviously here the system starves for system RAM and swaps
much faster compared to Oo.

To reproduce:
=
1) Fire up a loaded 512Mbyte RAM machine (or a VM) running Windows XP 32-bit
and an AV

2) Disable quickstarter for both Oo and LibO (to avoid memory getting wasted in
a 512Mb system)

3) Use a simple document/worksheet to compare memory utilization for these two
software packages and their difference.

I was under the impression that LibO (3.3) had undergone some serious
optimization/cleaning that I'd expect would produce a smaller memory footprint.
Not a larger one and definitely not that bigger.

  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All

 Status Whiteboard: BSA
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: c...@aliceadsl.fr

Problem description:
Note - I had to file this under WRITER but it applies to all components of
LibreOffice...
Introduction - I have had OpenOffice in Ubuntu for some years, and saving
Printer Settings works just fine.
My understanding of how it works is as follows (please correct if wrong):

A. I can set overall System-wide default printer settings via: Ubuntu > System
> Administration > Printing > Printer > Properties > Printer Options.
B. I can set Document-specific printer settings via: OpenOffice > File >
Printer Settings > Properties.
C. I can set printer settings for the next Print only via: OpenOffice > File >
Print > Properties.

So what gets printed is whatever I set at A, unless I over-ride it for that
Document at B, or for that particular Print at C.
If I make a change at A, it then appears at B & C.
If I make a change at B, it then appears at C.

Perfect!

With Ubuntu 11.04, OpenOffice was replaced by LibreOffice and something in the
above is broken, at least for me:
What I set at A appears at B & C, prints as required, and stays until
deliberately changed again - OK.
What I set at C prints as required (one time) then resets to default as A - OK.
But - Nothing I set at B has any effect at all on C, nor on what is printed!
This means I cannot set any Printer Settings to stick with a Document, but have
to either set them as system-wide defaults at A, or reset them every Print at
C.

Unacceptable!

Steps to reproduce:
1. Make a change in File > Printer Settings > Properties.
2. See if it appears in File > Print > Properties
3. See if it affects what you print.

Current behavior: Changes in File > Printer Settings > Properties are not taken
into account, so settings cannot be saved per document

Expected behavior: Like OpenOffice - can save printer settings per document,
using File > Printer Settings > Properties

Also [NOT RERPODUCIBLE] LibreOffice 3.4.3 Ubuntu 11.10 en_US

This is my test steps:
A. Default Formatting:
1. Open new calc document
2. In A1, enter "4/29/11" without quote and hit enter. It will be shown as
"04/29/11"
3. In A1, Ctrl+C or right-click and select Copy
4. In A2, Ctrl+V or right-click and select Paste
5. Notice that cell A2 contains "04/29/11", identical to A1, which is expected

B. Custom Formatting:
1. Open new calc document
2. right-click and select "Format Cells..."
3. Select "Date"
4. Enter "Format code" as "D-MMM-", then OK
5. In A1, enter "4/29/11" without quote and hit enter. It will be shown as
"29-Apr-2011"
6. In A1, Ctrl+C or right-click and select Copy
7. In A2, Ctrl+V or right-click and select Paste
8. Notice that cell A2 contains "29-Apr-2011", identical to A1, which is
expected

Mike, please report your steps that produce the issue like mine. Also, some
screenshots/screencast (video clip) is appreciated. Thanks.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 40270] Header border showing on PDF export

--- Comment #6 from Rainer Bielefeld

[Reproducible] with reporter's "testfile.odt" and "LibreOffice 3.4.4RC2 - WIN7
Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO340m1 (Build:402)]"

With ARX I see a black line below black header block with white letters, what
separate the letters from the white empty document area below the text. With
all documents I observe that increasing zoom in AR X step by step the border
line is visible for several zooms, disappears, reappears, ...

I see the problems with PDF export settings
- A1
- A1 lossless
- A1 lossless hybrid. With this
- lossless
- normal export
(or shortened: in all exported documents)

As Jeffrey recognized. the sample document has very special page heading
settings, so that the bottom of the heading exactly truncates the complete
character height so that nothing of the characters below the bottom of the
capital letter will be visible. insert a "g", change fonc color to green, and
you will see that the bottom of the letter will be truncated. But unexpectedly
also that "g" will be cut by the complained border line between heading and
rest of document, and THAT is really strange.

I can simply create a sample document showing the problem.
1. New document
2. Menu 'Format -> Page -> Header -> Activate'
3. Type some text °QWERTZUasdfghj" into the header
4. font size 36, color white
5. Paragraph background black
6. reduce Header height so that bottom ends at bottom of capital letters.
7. Export to PDF
Expected: "g", "j" without horizontal line, bottom end white, invisigle
Acctual: bottom of "g", "j" truncated by black horizontal line

@Jonathan:
Please submit bugs with default status UNCONFIRMED!
Please contribute information concerning all PDF export related LibO settings
Do you also observe that behavior with standard text?
