If the quotation mark is written somewhere in a line and flows over due to adding of text before the quotation mark, the left quotation mark is in correct position. See also examples in attached file. Various test were made and explained Steps to reproduce: 1. write a text and end it with a ENTER to create a new line 2. type left quotation mark as the first character in a line 3. result: quotation mark is not left aligned The same happens when unformated text is pasted and in the pasted text there is a left quotation mark the first character in a line. Current behavior: Left quotation mark is not left aligned when typed or copied as first character in a line. This is a really important missing features. As the OP pointed out, this functionality exists in pretty much every other A workaround is to keep a blank file around as a sort of template and copy it with cp before opening the file. Something like: soffice.sh: #!/bin/sh NAME=$1 [ -e $NAME ] || cp $HOME/blank.odt $NAME soffice $NAME If you make this executable and place it somewhere in your path, it does essentially what you might expect. BUT this requires keeping a blank ODT file in your home directory and being careful not to edit it (unless you want to start out with some formatting or something. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37967 Michael Longval changed: What|Removed |Added Priority|medium |high CC||mlong...@gmail.com --- Comment #5 from Michael Longval --- Not really a bug. Rather a LONG overdue feature enhancement. I have recently come back to LibreOffice (used OpenOffice and StarOffice before that), after having used MS-Word. I concur that LibreOffice needs a Normal View where formatting and fonts are not displayed, just the text (bold and italic is acceptable). This would go a long way to bridge what LibreOffice has to offer as a writing tool and what programs like WriteRoom, OmmWriter, PyRoom and multiple others have to offer : DISTRACTION FREE WRITING. 1) Call it "Distraction Free View" --- rather obvious 2) Allow for a DIFFERENT color theme than for Web or Print view. For those of you who are old enough : Remember WordPerfect white on blue screen. I am still drawn to that. Currently the chosen color theme applies to BOTH Web and Print view. So if I chose to edit text in Web View (sorta of a stopgap) with a blue backgroud and yellow font. That color theme is carried over to Print view when I want to check formatting. I have to go and change the color theme. It's a pain. 3) If we really want to go wild...: allow for different keybindings in "Distraction Free View" - a Vim mode - or and Emacs mode - or Wordstar mode (would probably get some old science fiction writers, who are still useing WordStar, to switch to LibreOffice.) In fact, I forgot to mention that I am seeing this problem in two PCs that are different so far as CPU, chipset and motherboard are concerned; but both are running 32-bit Win7. I have already come across a problem like that in 3.6.4, which existed in 4.0.0.1 but vanished in 4.0.0.2 alpha, although it is not specifically mentioned in the change log. It is impossible to get rid of it, because, when you fix it (turn the font format back to normal index) and save it in DOC, it will be there again, after you open it. The upper index us unbelievably persistent. Everyone, who receives your documents in DOC will have see the messed text as well. It is not easy to describe, but try to open the attached file. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46410 --- Comment #22 from peter Roots --- I can confirm that on LO 3.6.5.2 running on Fedora 18 the problem still exists. Text on the page is not indexed according to the concordance file but text in a frame does get indexed. As mentioned before, this is a regression as this used to work. Unfortunately I am not sure which version it last worked in. I can confirm that the same concordance file, used for my test, works fine, when used with exactly the same text, in OpenOffice 3.4.1 If the file is opened in LO, having been saved in OO then the index displays correctly.
