@Horby:
I confirm that Avery J8551 is not (yet) included in the default labels.
Thank you for reporting this.
I will add this label, and more new labels that I may come across.
Meanwhile, you can use J8651, which is included in the default labels and which
has the same dimensions.

@tommy27:
Thanks for alerting me :)

A colleague reading this suggests, and I think she is right, that the
additional white space in the body enforced to align a second paragraph with
the bottom of the 'pathetic side heading' should be optional. Paragraph flow
in the body may want to be normal, or it may want to avoid the preceeding side
heading.

I think that's nearly true, but I would generalise to keep /all/ immediate
formatting applied over and above the original text's intrinisc style. so
perhaps the casting of a single character into a different font for some reason
might be included too, or perhaps the modification of text colour for some
bizzare reason.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48457] FORMATTING - proposal for side headings, (margin headings)

2013-11-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48457

--- Comment #2 from Bob Harvey  ---
Bug 48459 was recently marked 'needs info' because of the linkage to an
external bugzilla for another product. I notice this one has not been. In
the spirit of co-operation I shall add similar notes here.

This proposal is that paragraph styles, especially those used as heading
styles, could be specified to appear in the left (or right?) margin rather than
between the margins. This would allow the creation of marginal headings such
as are frequently used in text books, where the marginal headings can be
included in TOC as required.

The linked bug includes several examples and it might be good to summarise
these:

--
1. REGULAR HEADING

Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.

  SIDE HEAD Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.

2. ANOTHER REGULAR HEADING

   LONG Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
  SIDE HEAD bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.

   PATHETIC Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.
  SIDE HEAD

Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.
--

Note that the long side heading wraps independently within the margin relative
to the succeeding body text. The 'pathetic' side heading, when wrapped, is
longer than the succeeding body text, requiring additional white space to be
enforced in the next paragraph of body text to avoid accidental alignment
(imagine if the pathetic side head were actually 5 lines long. The second
paragraph of body text would still have to start below it) This is why using
text boxes to contain the heading would not work.

The other issue is what happens with odd-and-even page styles. In a book
layout the marginal header always wants to be on the outside, and to adjust
itself as the page length reflows - something else that can't be automatic with
the use of text boxes. A side heading or marginal heading should insert itself
in the appropriate margin without operator interaction.

<-left page -><-right page->
SIDE HEAD fred fred fred || nellie nellie
  fred fred fred || nellie nellie
  jock jock jock ||
  jock jock jock || fred fred fred SIDE HEAD
  mary mary mary || fred fred fred

I don't know whether design decisions for this sort of change would also affect
Bug 48459, the proposal for run-in headings.

Hello,

I think most of us use the context menu for cut/copy/paste operations very
frequently. However, these items on the context menu are located at the very
bottom; therefore making it harder/longer to reach these options. IMHO, it
would make sense to move these buttons higher to the top of the context menu,
so that they would be easily reachable.

Would love to hear your opinions as well.

Best regards,
Emir

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48459] FORMATTING - proposal for in-line headings, (run-in, inset headings)

2013-11-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48459

--- Comment #3 from Bob Harvey  ---
Right-oh

An 'Inline' or 'Inset' or 'Run-in' heading is one in which there is no newline
at the end of the heading. The succeeding paragraph text ('running text') runs
on in smaller type on the same line. The heading is still a separate
'paragraph' for logical purposes, e.g. creation of TOC or style selection or
numbering, but the text does not start on the next line down. This would
frequently be used for low-order headings, heading level 3 or 4 downwards, in
complex documents.

If the text height of the heading is sufficiently large then the succeeding
paragraph may flow onto two or more lines on the right of the heading, in a
layout similar to a 'Drop Caps' where the first letter of a paragraph is formed
as a massive decorative 'drop capital' with the rest of the paragraph flowing
around it. This could be used to simulate a drop cap, although it would not be
a true one because the first word of the paragraph would be incomplete by one
letter, leading to errors in word count and perhaps indexing. I hesitate to
suggest a true 'Drop Cap' word style, though it would be fun.

It seems to me that this could be done by allowing any paragraph style (and
hence any heading style) to include a boolean indicating whether the paragraph
ends with a line break or not. This is not unlike specifying the white space
below a paragraph, but with the addition of it being null. Or, rather, very
short: I imagine some mechanism to specify alignment minimum white space after
the heading and before the running text would be needed. This sounds
suspiciously like another very specialist tab to me: the default or body text
style could be preset with two or three 'inline starting point' tabs to allow
the page to look nice, and the running text start points to line up down the
page regardless of heading lengths.

Note, too, that the vertical alignment of the main 'running text' and of the
inital 'run-in heading' is non-obvious. they might want to be be bottom
aligned (base aligned) in simple cases, but where the heading is made very
large they will need to be top aligned. I suspect this will want to be user
selected too.

Don't forget too that design decisions here might interact with Bug 48457 for
'marginal' or 'outset' headings.

Stealing from the OpenOffice bug request you mention (which still seems jolly
accessible to me, don't really understand the problem) here is an example:
--
Example for run-in headings:

RUN-IN HEADING Bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla.

Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla.

OTHER RUN-IN HEADING Bla bla bla.

MORE RUN-IN HEADINGS Bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla.
---

Similarly, someone else said:
"Lack of r.i.h. is an absolute showstopper for creating IEEE- and
MIL-STD-961E-format documents. W*** accomplishes this by allowing you to set
the
paragraph mark between heading and para text to "hidden". Recent W*** versions
use a "style separator" with same effect; the paragraph as printed is formatted
with Heading X up to the style separator, and with e.g. Body Text after the
separator."

===
The original OO bug included an opposite but related proposal, where chapter
number and chapter name appear on successive lines in the text, but on a single
row of the TOC. This implies having a single heading with an embedded line
break that is suppressed in the TOC and other cross-references. (this technique
is often seen in book layouts where the chapter number and name are
centre-justified at the top of the page)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48461] FORMATTING - Proposal for improving 'fill characters' (bleeding, leading tabs)

2013-11-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48461

--- Comment #4 from Bob Harvey  ---
OK, fair enough.

1. Bleeding (or leading) tabs fill in between TOC text on the left and the
page numbers on the right. In LO this is done with a character specified as a
fill character, but those are left justified the same way as the text. That
means that, with a proportional font for the text, they don't line up down the
page: the dots on one row might fall in between the dots on the row above,
creating an unpleasant mash. My proposal would have:
- A minimum white space between the text and the bleed
- A minimum white space between the bleed and the page number
- the fill characters would be right-justified and right-aligned so that they
form attractive vertical columns on the page.

The present system of tabs can be used to set the final white space between the
right hand end of the bleed and the page number, and a number of similar tabs
(according to how variable the text lengths are), the point where the bleed
starts on the left.

2. The text and the index number can be made to stand out better if the fill
characters are greyed relative to the text and the index number.

It will be easier to follow the bleed across the page if the level of greying
were to be different for successive lines. This is similar to the green and
white stripes on old-fashioned fanfold "music" printouts. For example, you
might provide the option to have four levels of greying (or transparency) for
the bleed fill characters and apply them sequentially, allowing the user to
select schemes like:
80%
60%
40%
20%
or alternatively
75%
25%
75%
25%
or even
90%
0%
90%
0%
to produce alternate rulings and blanks.

Some finessing might be applied according to heading levels, if possible: the
sequence of 4 might want to be reset for new chapters or new heading levels 1,
or the greying/transparency might be set by heading level instead of (or as
well as?) the sequential idea.

In my mind the actual level of greying would be the multiplicative product of
the sequential and the heading level settings, such that setting either one to
all 100% would select the other technique instead, or they could be mixed by
someone creative.

Should this report be set as enhancement request? Or perhaps even closed?

For now, I'm lowering priority and setting as enhancement request, since
alternative or more adequate procedures already exists (using "=true()" among
others). If there are reasons to change the status, feel free to change it
accordingly.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 69211] Other: DateDif (win only)

> You just correctly observed that a number format such as a date format is a
> DISPLAY format, not a data entry mask. Date input is evaluated according to
> the date acceptance patterns that can be viewed and changed under Tools ->
> Options -> LanguageSettings -> Languages.

My tests are showing that the additional "Date acceptance patterns" are not
working as expected (a.k.a BUG).

The "Date acceptance patterns" is supposed to help the user introduce dates
using alternative date formats (other than its default in Calc Language
settings).

I can insert the date in my default format and then change the format of the
cell as I want; but then there is no point for the "Date acceptance patterns".
The whole point of "Date acceptance patterns" is for the user to be able to
insert _other_ date formats and Calc should identify (format) it as date
"automatically". Hopefully I am being more clear now.

Perhaps this incorrect behavior is more relevant for bug #71664, as it is not a
problem exclusive to DATEDIF.

Regards,
Ady.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71459] No easy way to subtract two numbers (without snap-to-zero)

2013-11-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71459

--- Comment #5 from M Welinder  ---
Guys, stop defending what LO currently does. It's just plain silly.
Take a look at this...

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/sc/source/core/tool/interpr3.cxx#n448

...from which we learn:

1. Enter =COMBIN(1e15,1e15-1) and LO will hang for ages. For slightly
   higher numbers "k--;" won't change the value of k, so that will be
   an infinite loop.

2. Whoever wrote this didn't know the basics of combinatorics. Notably
   COMBIN(n,k) = COMBIN(n,n-k).  I.e, for efficiency, replace k by n-k
   if the latter is smaller.

3. The code is doing the divisions in the wrong order. Here's what it does
   for COMBIN(15,6):

   15*14*13*12*11*10
   -
6* 5* 4* 3* 2* 1

   (as (15/6) * (14/5) * ... * (10/1) -- note the parentheses.  Some of
   these fractions have rounding errors.) Other than the wrong order of
   operations, that's not too bad way to compute this. However, it
   should have been doing

   15*14*13*12*11*10
   -
1* 2* 3* 4* 5* 6

   (as 15/1*14/2*13/3...*10/6 -- note the lack of parentheses, so the
   multiplication comes before the division in each step.)

   Doing things this way means that all numbers stay integers. There
   will not be any rounding errors unless the final answer is (much)
   more than 2^53. In the C(15,6)=C(15,9) case, all numbers would fit
   comfortably in a 16-bit integer.

   To prevent a hang for C(2^53,2^52), one should check for overflow.

But again, COMBIN is a sideshow here. The real issue is the lack of on
honest subtraction.

When positioned into the menu dialogs of the latest StartCenter, there are 4
functional "subwindows": Open-Templates : Create New XXX (document,
spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, formula, database) : Help-Extensions :
Thumbnail views (of recent document list).

Correct keyboard navigation would be F6 keys to cycle from subwindow to
subwindow including the File-MenuBar. As implemented F6 keys will only toggle
between the File-MenuBar and the Open-Templates subwindow--duplicating the
behavior of the F10 reserved key.

Additionally, the and moves in a single round through all
button objects on all subwindows. More functional would be for the to
move between subwindows--duplicating ideal F6 movement--and then Cursor
 key movements would control movements in each subwindow.

Adjustment of and Cursor movements between GTK+ widget UI elements are
essential to consistent keyboard navigation and directly to Assistive
Technologies that require them.

StartCenter -- the GTK+ UI widget implementation of mouse-over events are not
firing an object focus event for the corresponding button object.

Expected -- a mouse movement firing a mouse over color flash should shift
program focus onto the button firing an accessibility focus event. Keyboard and
program focus should also follow the visual focus of a GTK+ widget button.

Actual -- a mouse over color flash/change occurs and will retain visual focus,
but keyboard and program focus will remain on a different GTK+ widget object.

Also, as no "tooltip" event is firing on mouse-over and the tool-tip is an
important source of accessibility detail

Causes useability problems in that a keyboard enter/submit will assert on the
wrong object. Also, an accessibility issue as focus events are not being fired
leaving AT blind to GUI changes.

You just correctly observed that a number format such as a date format is a
DISPLAY format, not a data entry mask. Date input is evaluated according to the
date acceptance patterns that can be viewed and changed under Tools -> Options
-> LanguageSettings -> Languages.

After discussing this with quite a few QA members we didn't really see the
point. Marking as NEEDINFO - what kind of things would you want to be able to
do in such a dialog that you can currently do but not with a simple format ->
table cell dialog? We tried coming up with a list and really couldn't think of
anything.

Once you give us some things you'd like to see in the dialog - mark as
UNCONFIRMED and we'll investigate.

Thanks!

Hi Yaytay,

Could you please attach example files (one that works and one that doesn't)?
That would definitely help us track down and fix this bug.

Thanks!

Unfortunately part of the reason this has been in UNCONFIRMED for so long is
because it requires us to dig through comments on someone else's bug tracker.
We require clear and concise information on our bug tracker - saying "click
this link and see" is not sufficient. Please provide the information here and
if necessary say "see comment #n" on PROVIDE LINK) - vs. just "go browse this
extensive bug report on AOO's framework.

Marking as NEEDINFO. Once clear info is provided here, including pointers to
what comments we should look at on the link you provided, mark as UNCONFIRMED
and we'll see if we can at least get it to NEW status.

Thanks for your understanding

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 48654] Add a visual indication when there are non-printable characters on the end of line

Thank you for reporting this issue! I have been able to confirm the issue on:
Version: 4.2.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 27ad2a5cff3ada93d321835a117959349edd5fa4
Date:   Sat Nov 16 20:32:43 2013 +0100

As I've been able to confirm this problem I am marking as:

New (confirmed)
Enhancement -
Lowest - viewing non printing characters in of itself pretty rare, add the
"need" to see far right end of line space characters seems like a rear request.
Proof of this is no one commenting beyond someone from QA :)

Steps:
1. Write a long sentence (more than one line), ensure that the first line ends
with a space (vs. a character)

2. Enable non printing characters (ctrl +f10)

3. Ensure that you see the space character at the end of the first line

4. Align the text to the right

Observed: You no longer see the end of the line non printed character

Expected: To still see an indication that there "is a space" at the end of the
line (see png attached)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 71761] New: Cleanup Whiteboard Wiki Page

2013-11-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71761

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 71761
CC: webs...@global.libreoffice.org
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
   Summary: Cleanup Whiteboard Wiki Page
  Severity: trivial
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: jmadero@gmail.com
  Hardware: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: WWW
   Product: LibreOffice

We are looking to substantially clean the whiteboard wiki page. The idea is
that we want something much much simpler than what is currently there and move
the current page to something like whiteboard_complete or whiteboard_advanced.
The general idea is we want a basic page where "new QA members" won't get
overwhelmed with the amount of information but at the same time we want "full
documentation" available to more experienced QA to see all the nitty gritty
info currently on the page (which again should be moved to _complete or
_advanced or something else that makes sense)

Here is the link:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Bugzilla/Fields/Whiteboard

Suggestion:
Copy content of the page to a temporary holding place on the wiki
Then on the main page liberally cut down to the bare minimum
Organize in a way that a new user would be able to follow when to use the terms
Add some of the new terms that we now have - I can get you a list of new terms
(or a list of all terms if that helps)

I'm happy to be a "mentor" on this - just haven't had time to do it myself.
Email me if you need advice :) Much appreciated if someone will take this long
pending task off of my plate.

Thank you Sophie and Arnaud for your feedback.
I put it at NEW since we got 2 bts.

Sophie: just for information, do you also have 2 screens on your machine?

Caolán/Thorsten: I put you in cc since we can see vcl+sd/sdext inside bts.
I noticed this in one of the bt:
#1  0x7fffd586440d in non-virtual thunk to
sd::presenter::SlideRenderer::createPreviewForCanvas(com::sun::star::uno::Reference
const&, com::sun::star::awt::Size const&, short,
com::sun::star::uno::Reference const&)
(this=, rxSlide=uno::Reference to
(cppcanvas::internal::ImplBitmapCanvas *) 0x29a42a0, rMaximalSize=...,
nSuperSampleFactor=-22480,
rxCanvas=) at
/home/arnaud/libreoffice/src/sd/source/ui/presenter/SlideRenderer.cxx:142

Also I don't think it's related but just in case, cppcheck reported this:
[PresenterController.cxx:397] -> [PresenterController.cxx:401]: (performance)
Variable 'nIndex' is reassigned a value before the old one has been used

Indeed we have:
396 // Get the placeholder
397 ++nIndex;
398 ++nStartIndex;
399 const sal_Int32 nEndIndex (sTemplate.indexOf('%',
nStartIndex+1));
400 const OUString sPlaceholder
(sTemplate.copy(nStartIndex, nEndIndex-nStartIndex));
401 nIndex = nEndIndex+1;

See

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 67903] Print dialog preview in Draw does not update with paper size change

--- Comment #2 from Karl Relton  ---
I disagree with the assertion that calc/writer are correct.

Between 4.0 and 4.1 the behaviour in calc/writer changed (running on Ubuntu)
introducing (what is in my view) a regression.

Previously in writer (4.0) the print-dialog-preview showed the page as it would
appear on the printed page, with the size of the preview reflecting the paper
size in the printer properties form. Now (4.1) it is stuck at showing the page
size as set by format->page, regardless of the printer paper size selected.

To me this is wrong: it is more useful to preview how it will look on the
physically printed page.

It is particularly acute for me since I produce A5 documents by printing 2up
onto A4 and then guillotining. I would do this by:

- format->page: set to A5
- printer->properties: set paper to A4 (matching the physical paper in the
printer)
- printer dialog set 'pages to sheet' to 2

In 4.0 the print-dialog-preview would then nicely show the two A5 pages tiled
on one sheet, matching exactly what would then be printed.
In 4.1 the print-dialog-preview just shows me two A5 pages tiled into an A5
sheet. Then when I physically print I then get two 70%-of-A5 (i.e. A6) pages
printed on the A4 physical sheet - NOT what I wanted!

OK. I added myself to the CC page and will begin reviewing the QA pages.

I will send comments and changes to you, Florian.
Only problem so far, is that the site seems down?
It only loads to a blank page.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 47474] missing "ParentWindow" property on XUIElementFactory::createUIElement API

is the problem that there is no "ParentWindow" property in "properties"
or is there one and it is 0?

there's a whole bunch of places calling createUIElement, and i wonder which
of these would be the culprit...

framework/source/layoutmanager/layoutmanager.cxx:xUIElement =
m_xUIEleme
ntFactoryManager->createUIElement( aName, aPropSeq );
framework/source/layoutmanager/toolbarlayoutmanager.cxx:xUIElement
=
 xUIElementFactory->createUIElement( aAddonToolBarName, aPropSeq );
framework/source/layoutmanager/toolbarlayoutmanager.cxx:xUIElement
=
 xUIElementFactory->createUIElement( aName, aPropSeq );
framework/source/uifactory/uielementfactorymanager.cxx:return
xUIEle
mentFactory->createUIElement( ResourceURL, Args );
sfx2/source/dialog/taskpane.cxx:xFactory->createUIElement(
m_sResourceURL, aCreationArgs.getPropertyValues() ),
sfx2/source/sidebar/SidebarController.cxx:
xUIElementFactory->createUIElement(
sfx2/source/toolbox/tbxitem.cxx:xUIElement =
xUIElementFactory->createUIElement( rSubToolBarResName, aPropSeq );

... so these do not even attempt to add a "ParentWindow":

ToolbarLayoutManager::implts_createAddonsToolBars
ToolbarLayoutManager::implts_createElement
LayoutManager::implts_createElement
SfxToolBoxControl::createAndPositionSubToolBar
