Thanks Miguel. Version set to v4.2.0.4 release as a result of comment 1.
Problem would appear to be restricted to the v4.2 series.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77417] New: FILEOPEN: incorrect conversion of docx paragraph spacing details

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77417

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 77417
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: FILEOPEN: incorrect conversion of docx paragraph
spacing details
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: philip...@hotmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.2.1 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 97329
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=97329action=edit
the file specified in the long description, along with a version of the file
converted using the ms office compatibility pack

Problem description:
Double the amount of spacing is found between paragraphs, as extra spacing is
added above each paragraph

Steps to reproduce:
1. download docx file -
http://www.microsoft.com/investor/reports/ar13/docs/2013_Annual_Report.docx
2. Goto the first page with text

Current behavior:
The conversion has the font style as 0.00 spacing above and 0.19 spacing
below the paragraph, while the line paragraph details has 0.19 spacing above
an 0.19 spacing below. The document also has similar paragraph spacing
problems in all text in tables, which causes the document to increase from its
initial size of around 90, to over 300.

I don't know why you do not receive update alert but if you are already on the
4.2.x branch any micro-release is suggested, so you should really upgrade from
4.2.0 (first less stable release) to the current 4.2.3

4.3.x branch is still in alpha phase and is not released yet. it's available
only for testing

conservative users are still using 4.1.5 which however is close to end of life.

so I suggest 4.2.3 which is a quite advanced and update 4.2.x branch.

I set status to NEEDINFO waiting you feedback about 4.2.3

Screenshot with LibO 4.2.3

If I have multipage tables with raws splitted across pages, and in some cells I
try to align the text to the bottom of the cell, the text won't jump to second
page where the row bottom really is, but will remain at the bottom from the
first page. The problem seems to be the same from NeoOffice 3.4.1 (based on OOo
3.x code) to LibreOffice 4.2.3

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77291] IDE: No way to break out of repeated syntax errors

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77291

--- Comment #2 from Noel Power nopo...@novell.com ---
This has been the unfortunately the situation as long as I remember (happens
under certain circumstances) it sounds like an enhancement to me if the errors
involved ( and I did not check ) are indeed compile time errors, in that case
it should in theory be possible to date/time check the source to limit the
errors issues for a single invocation. However there are a couple of things to
note:
a) what sounds like a compile error may not be, the basic compiler is so crummy
that it does resolve many things on the fly ( e.g at run time ) and as you
might imagine if the error is generated in the 'execute' cycle distinguishing
such an error from a normal 'run-time' error may be incredibly difficult (if
not impossible)
b) I see that formulas are mentioned so I presume that a macro is being invoked
from a cell function ( or the cell function is a macro), in this case the
execution is outside the control of basic ( e.g. the macro is fired from calc )
calc can and does decide to fire macros wrt to formulas for its own reasons
(usually to do with dependency recalculations) and sometimes IIRC even when
redrawing the document ( possibly that is a separate error itself ) so it may
be the number of errors might be reduced but apparent duplicated errors may not
be eliminated entirely
c) there are still some nasty situation where macros bound to ui events can
have some horror effects, macro bound to focus events come to mind, you can (
and I have unfortunately managed to do this ) set up a scenario where
dismissing the error dialog triggers the macro which triggers the error dialog
again ( and repeat forever )

 Hello cslee, *,
what would be a difference with the File – Versions... dialog? You can
choose to Save a new version or enable Always save a version on closing.
But maybe I just do not understand enough English to follow your description
 ... :(

 Sorry for the inconvenience
 Thomas.

No inconvenience,
I have worked in many (6 organisations and many departments) where documents
are named according to a version of the document as it is released either for
review or final acceptance.
In order to manage this the following elements are often used:
1. File name has a version umber in it
2. Title page has version in it
3. Footer has version in it

So what I am after is a way to do a few things in one easy step.
During a save As operation I would like to allow an incrementation of the
version of the documet, this would need to do the following based on the
version numbers adjusted in the Save As dialog:
1. Adjust the file name so the vern.n section is updated to the new numbers
e.g. filenme-ver1.1.odt
2. Update the document field/varible named DocVersion to the same value
3. Update all the fields in the document that use that variable to the new
value.

Otherwise you get a situation that I have seen a lot over the years where the
file name version and the version numbers in the document are all out of sync.

Obviously adding a true document version (same as using the version dialog) at
the same time might also be worth including or optional.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77427] New: Install fails on Debian stable (dependency issues)

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77427

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 77427
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Install fails on Debian stable (dependency issues)
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: jeroendog...@gmail.com
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.3.3 rc
 Component: Installation
   Product: LibreOffice

Created attachment 97343
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=97343action=edit
Install fails on Debian stable (dependency issues)

Actions:
 - download LibreOffice 4.2.3 for Linux x86 (deb)
 - extract .zip
 - run auto install using dpkg -i *.deb

Problem:
 - auto install fails because of dependency errors

Sample output: (Dutch)
   dpkg: error processing libobasis4.2-gnome-integration (--configure):
 vereistenproblemen - blijft ongeconfigureerd
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of
libobasis4.2-postgresql-sdbc:
libobasis4.2-postgresql-sdbc is afhankelijk van libobasis4.2-base (=
4.2.3.3); maar:
Pakket libobasis4.2-base is nog niet geconfigureerd.

Probable cause:
 - the installer assumes a certain install order for the .deb packages
 - probably some dependencies are not defined correctly

Dirty solution:
 - install the needed core packages manually (see attachment)
 - dpkg -i libobasis4.2-core01_4.2.3.3-3_amd64.deb
 - this fixes it for me (maybe not for all users)

Good solution:
 - fix the dependency errors

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77430] New: EDITING: Text and other Objects inserted in Charts go completely lost

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Summary: EDITING: Text and other Objects inserted in Charts go

  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: silva...@katamail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA PossibleRegression
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.2.1 release
 Component: Chart
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description: Then

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a spreadsheet, type a few numbers and create a chart with them.
2. Create and add a personalized text object in the chart, e.g. a description
or any other comment you want to show somewhere in the chart and is not an
automatic chart object like title or axis label. Alternatively, insert a
graphic object like a rectangle.
3. Save the file and reopen it: the text or other object object is lost, and
there seems to be no way to recover it.

Current behavior: This happens also when you open a file created with a
previous version: I had a paper with 50 charts inserted, edited with no problem
until 4.1.5, all with description inserted as text objects, now I open it with
4.2.2.1 and ALL of them are lost. All charts are shown, but none of them has
the inserted text objects anymore.
Expected behavior: All objects inserted in a chart to personalize it should be
saved as before.
To avoid MASSIVE DATA LOSS I now cannot edit the file anymore.

Hi,

With Version: 4.2.2.1
Build ID: 3be8cda0bddd8e430d8cda1ebfd581265cca5a0f

LO refuses to insert the sequence into an Impress page, stating that the format
is unrecognized.

This is despite the fact that the file displays and is presented fine in the
OSX Quicktime player.

Will test later with my 4.3 master build, but I have built LO with VLC support
on that, so the results may well be different.

Hi Heraklios,

Thanks for your report. But did you already learn about page-styles in Writer?
I think thats related to at least part of your problem.
So I guess that it's best to first ask for user-support. For exmaple there is a
group of users with a great variety of skills that can offer help with
questions:
  http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/

(And yes, there are issues with translating from Docx to Writer, but then I
guess those are already reported..)

Can you pls try that first?

While having language names in their native language is fine for
interfaces where a user only wants to pick his/her own language, it is
not desirable for interfaces where several languages can be chosen for
different purposes that are not native to the user. Let me explain some
disadvantages:

* a document containing language attribution the user doesn't know the
native name of, s/he will see a meaningless entry in the language list
* seeing the language list, a user will not know what languages are
offered except those s/he can somehow deduce
* wanting to prepare a document with different locale settings (e.g.
using different currencies or formatting) the user would have to know
  the native names
* a developer adding a language to the language listbox would have to
know that name in the native language; yes, CLDR in the mean time
provides native names of most frequently used languages, but not for
the not so frequently used that now are occasionally requested; s/he'd
have to take the word of the one requesting that language
* for developers this gets even more cumbersome for languages that can
be written in different scripts, or scripts the developer doesn't know
at all; would you know how to correctly write Arabic and enter it on
your native keyboard? Or Mongolian in the Mongolian script? You'd have
to rely on copypaste and pray that your editor handles all Unicode
characters, RTL writing direction and so forth.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77432] New: PDF: exporting impress document to pdf does not embed fonts

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77432

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 77432
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: PDF: exporting impress document to pdf does not embed
fonts
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: kurt_seeba...@yahoo.de
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.2.1 release
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

I am trying to export impress (.odp) documents as pdf and make it available
online. In Impress Version 3.5.5.3 the pdf export dialog offers an option
embed standard fonts which works perfectly well.

In version 4.2.2.1 this option has disappeared from the export dialog, instead
i find an option under file - properties - font - embed fonts in document
which does not work.

I also tried option PDF/A-1a in the export dialog which also does not seem to
help.

Not work means the file opens fine in Adobe Reader, but if you look at it
using the embedded pdf viewer of Mozilla Firefox the fonts don't appear.

As an example try this file:
http://ufm-group.de/images/boersenbrief/lohmer_research_03_2014.pdf
It was created with Impress 3.5.5.3 and works.

Not working file:
http://ufm-group.de/images/boersenbrief/lohmer_research_07_2014_nofonts.pdf
It was created wich Impress 4.2.2.1, PDF/A-1a and embed fonts in document
option. Firefox shows no text.

Is this a bug, is it a feature? What can i do to make the documents appear
correctly?

Contact me, if you need more detail!
Thanks!

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 76324] CALC becomes very slow with 5000+ comments

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76324

with libreoffice 4.2.3.3 i get this error when i duplicate the comments in the
example file when i try to save the file:

Error saving the document test-1:
Write Error.
The file could not be written.

it doesn't crash for me, so i can't give a valgrind trace. are there some
libreoffice specific docs how to make a valgrind trace on windows?
are these useful without debug symbols?

A self explanatory example

Problem description:
I run the latest Trisquel with LibreOffice 4.2.3.3 from the Ubuntu PPA.

I discovered the issue with LibreOffice 3.4 I think, the one that comes bundled
with Trisquel. I have updated from the PPA and the problem persists.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run LibreOffice

Current behavior:
Items from the menus are invisible. They do work, but it is painful to try to
guess each option.

Expected behavior:
Menus should be visible.

BUT one error remains. it refers to a 64bit value that doesnt show to a 64

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77317] EDITING: ' prepended when applying Number or Scientific format to Text formatted cell with a number in it

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77317

--- Comment #7 from Michael Doube mich...@doube.net ---
Dear Eike, m.a.risov and Christopher,

Thanks for taking your time with this.

As a programmer concerned about user experience (which sometimes I get to
practise, when not battling with spreadsheets), the userland behaviour is
pretty weird. Why is there an apostrophe in the input line and not in the cell?
That breaks all my assumptions about the relationship between the input line
and the cell. For example, if I enter a ' into the input line, when a Text
formatted cell is selected, I get a ' in the cell. Suddenly making a ' appear
in the input line without it being in the cell is strange. Current behaviour
seems like a cheap hack to get out of doing some actual conversion logic and
user interaction. e.g.

1. Cell chars are all numerals, looks like an integer, no problem - integer
2. Cell chars might look like a decimal number maybe with a , or a . or an E:
ask the user what to do (locale-dependent sensible default required)
3. Function text is included (e.g. =, SUM(A1:A10), etc.) if it parses, - no
problem
4. Something else is there, random text, whatever. Then just apply number
format to the cell and behave as though the user typed the same string of chars
into the cell.

I hope that you can see that these solutions are, from a user perspective,
somewhat more appealing than the current behaviour which is something like:

prepend a ', but only display it in the input line and not in the cell. Don't
warn the user that this has happened because of an unwillingness to change the
underlying datatype of the cell. Also don't tell them that they have to apply
an obscure, terse regex to get rid of the ' and make the data how they want it:
let them try to find it on the wiki (assumes motivation and a working internet
connection). Allow them to waste their time working out how to reenter their
data / figure out the correct combination of copy-paste options.

--- Comment #1 from t...@tim-passingham.co.uk ---
I had, possibly foolishly, followed the normal README_en-US instructions, ie
doing a sudo dpkg -i *.deb to install.

The instructions ate https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel
indicate that it's better to install as a normal user in a directory within the
DEBS, using for i in ../*.deb; do dpkg-deb -x $i . ; done

Using this second technique the installation of 4.2.4.0 daily build (dated
14/04/14) succeeded.

So I guess that the fault (if it's agreed there is an issue) is the
instructions within the daily build readmes. It would help if these were
omitted completely, and a URL to the wiki document above was supplied, or
corrected for daily builds.

  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: t...@tim-passingham.co.uk
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: Spreadsheet
   Product: LibreOffice

Following on from fixes for #77300 #75741, making changes to range names
(insert, manage...) now works in the 4.2.4.0 daily builds from 12/04/14
onwards.

However, on a full sized complex spreadsheet, such changes now take minutes
(about 2 minutes 10 seconds on one test) on a fairly quick machine (8 * 2.5GHz)
running ubuntu 13.10. I thought it had crashed/locked-up, but it did complete
eventually. One CPU was 100% for the whole time.

I strongly suggest an item in the release notes indicating that some may find
such changes very much slower than before in complex sheets.

I can't supply a demo for this because on a small sheet without my data the
performance is OK. It becomes significant on a complex 90+ sheet with all my
data, which is too private to supply.

AFAIK, ODF is very vague about what should be in the text:p element. It's

As a point of additional data, this commit was discussed in thread starting
 at
 http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice/2013-August/08.html

I'm not happy with the commit. It clearly breaks copypaste and categories are
not necessarily written out. I would vote to revert the patch and look for a
proper fix without breaking chart2 in all other applications.

I currently can't see how I can do that with what I have, given that it's very

I think a comment has already been made on one of the two previous reports that
the changed method of updating range names would be slow.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77441] New: Display of candlestick stock charts is broken

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77441

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 77441
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Display of candlestick stock charts is broken
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: wshe...@sbcglobal.net
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.3.3 rc
 Component: Chart
   Product: LibreOffice

(Note: this problem occurs in at least the Linux and Windows versions.)

When displaying candlestick stock charts, the candle body is displaced
downward in each individual bar.

i.e. the height of the candle body is correct, but the top edge of the body is
drawn where the bottom edge should be, and the bottom edge is drawn below the
lower end of the tail.

If someone will point me to the appropriate source code I'd be happy to submit
a patch :)

BTW, this problem appeared somewhere between 4.1.4.2 and 4.2.3.3 but I can't be
more specific than that, sorry.

I have just upgraded from XP with a new PC running Windows 8.1 Pro.
The Libra came as standard from the supplier so I assume it is the latest
version.
After initial printer recognition problems it now recognises the printer and
prints fine except for trying to print from Libra Writer.
It goes through the screens but nothing prints.

When LO is open, with no document open, opening a document by double-clic on
his icon may take time, between 2 seconds and 1 minute. More strange, if we
make an other click, the document opens immediately. And even if we move the
mouse, the opening is quite immediate too.

Sometimes the problem doesn't appear, but in most cases, we notice it

Tested with LO 4.2.3.3 on Mac OOSX 10.9.2 on different macs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 77446] New: Other: Intermittently, some Libreoffice applications hang as soon as they are started

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77446

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 77446
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Other: Intermittently, some Libreoffice applications
hang as soon as they are started
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux (All)
  Reporter: david.meril...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Whiteboard: BSA
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.2.3.3 rc
 Component: Libreoffice
   Product: LibreOffice

Problem description:
On starting Libreoffice Calc or sometimes Writer, the splash screen appears and
disappears normally, then the main window draws mostly (Generally the menu bar
does not draw) and is thereafter unresponsive. After a few minutes, clicking
the X in the frame to close the application results in Fedora waiting several
seconds and then declaring that the application is unresponsive. Other X
applications on the same desktop seem unaffected.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Libreoffice Calc from the launcher
2. Try do use the application in any way
3. Attempt to resize the application frame

Current behavior:
The application window is not fully drawn. In particular the menu bar is
not drawn.
The application does not respond.
The application does not redraw on resize events, and new areas of the
window have the content of what was already drawn on the desktop behind the
window.

Expected behavior:
The application window should be fully drawn.
The application should respond, e.g.:
Clicking in cells should select them for focus, etc.
    The application properly resizes itself

System and software versions:
Libre-office 4.2.3.2
Fedora Core 20 (fully updated on 2014-04-14)
Linux 3.13.9
KDE 4
X.Org 1.14.4

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 67862] FORMULAEDITOR: FEATURE REQUEST: Include greek letters ans symbols

2014-04-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67862

The Catalogue is obsolete since the support of Unicode. It's UI is not
intuitive changing or adding symbols is a nuisance. Greek Letters should be
formatted like Variables, Numbers… (btw the Dialog FormatFonts… is bad too).
Codes like infinity or %alpha are superfluous, just insert Unicode Symbol.
If one likes to type symbols use Auto-Correction and an InsertSymbol dialog
with integrated [Add Auto-Correction]. Or via rightclick in sidebarAdd
code/auto-correction.
What is missing too is a tooltip in the sidebar if a code/an auto-correction is
assigned.
Unfortunately Math was neglected in the past and looks like a relic at least a
decade old.
