If there are any hope to solve this and similar terrible Calc CPU use
regressions or the only way is to move back to OpenOffice.org? Unfortunately it
becomes worse with every next major releases and gap between Libreoffice and
OpenOffice.org Calc performance increases. There are nice new features in
Libreoffice Calc, like improved pivot tables, but they cost nothing, if the
most of files, which could be easily operated with 3rd version branch now can't
be opened at all or it takes minutes to do any changes in documents. I'm not
mentioning Excel, which is much worse in terms of functionality, but much
faster with those big files.

With 4.2.6.3 it can be opened in 54 seconds (production version, extensions

Problem description: 
Retention of last formatting option selected.

Current behavior:
When formatting borders cells - I select a particular border the selected cells
and apply it. 
When formatting another group of cells - I have to go inside the border menu
and re-select the earlier selected border.

Expected behavior:
Can we have the last selected option of the border, retained on the border
formatting button - so that we can click it and apply, without having to go
inside the menu again.

ALSO: Can we have a 'wrap text automatically' button on the formatting toolbar?

1.Do I have to replace the method getUnicodeTokenName with getUtf8TokenName in

Seems like a reasonable request. There does not appear to be any simple method
of having inserted media objects cycle (repeat) with a specified delay between
each cycle. There are currently entrance and exit effects and media triggers
(start and end) under Animations.

Given the examples this would appear to be a type of cycle theme and may
require a separate enhancement request, but left for now. Either option (cycle
or cycle themes) may require an amendment to the ODF specification.

Problem description: 
Mendeley Desktop 1.12.1 with Mendeley 1.12.1.oxt does NOT work with LibreOffice
4.3.1.2.  (Build ID: 430m0(Build:2). 

I do not know if it is a Mendeley or a LibreOffice problem.
I report this to both parties.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launching Mendendeley returns the following message in Terminal
(independently of LO):

$ mendeleydesktop
Using system Qt version 4.8.6 in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
Unsupported action "SENDEVENTS"

2. Installing the LibreOffice plugin does NOT return any messages. The Mendeley
toolbar appears among LO toolbars, but the buttons are inactive.

3. The LO Extension Manager reports on the Mendeley Extension that "The status
of this extension is unknown" & the Enable button is active. Clicking Enable
returns the following error message:

ImplementationRegistration::registerImplementation() - The service
com.sun.star.loader.Python cannot be instantiated

Clicking Enable a 2nd time crashes LO & yields the following:

$ libreoffice --writer
pure virtual method called
terminate called without an active exception

OR

$ libreoffice --writer
pure virtual method called
terminate called after throwing an instance of
'com::sun::star::deployment::DeploymentException'

4. After restarting LO, the Mendeley toolbar disappears, but the plugin is
still seen by the Extension Manager.


Current behavior: LO is unable to request citation from Mendeley.

Expected behavior: citations can be imported from Mendeley then edited in LO

Not sure how possible this is in a cross-platform manner, but seems a worthy
goal. I have noticed that initiating LO from the command line under Debian 7
x86_64 + LXDE results in messages like:

WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to:
/home/user/.cache/keyring-XxXXxx/pkcs11: No such file or directory

In my case this is likely due to the related gnome package not being installed
(and so I have turned these messages off manually). Status set to NEW. Summary

details a different problem relating to signature handling for ODF in

I am not sure that this report describes a problem LO can solve, for the
reasons indicated in bug 68735. Comparing text as displayed in Writer vs
Firefox is probably not an equal comparison. Here are some more metrics (using
the C program kindly provided by Khaled) to add to those listed in comment two
from that report:

Hiragino Maru Gothic ProAscent = 880, Descent = 120, Leading = 500
MS MinchoAscent = 859, Descent = 141, Leading = 0

I think the variation in line height being observed is simply the result of
varying metrics. In basic terms, older CJK fonts have a smaller Leading metric,
while newer CJK fonts seem to have greater Leading metric (but other metrics
are probably also influential).

Ruby text does seem to affect line spacing, but this may be a separate issue. I
am unclear about this, which is partly why I raised it above as an open
question.

Thank you for the data.
Opening your csv file works fine in version 4.3.3.0.0+ under Ubuntu 14.04
x86-64 with FR localization (FR UI and comma as decimal separator). I do not
see any tick before numbers.
Works as expected with version 4.2.7.0.0+ too.

What is the locale of your system (language, decimal separator) ?
What do you mean by "The problem is when you only work with .csv files." ? I do
not know what could be the difference between working with the csv file and
working with the same file saved as .ods file.

Hmmm, 8 seconds for me with version 4.3.3.0.0+ x86-64 build at home under
Ubuntu 14.04 (LO being closed, select the file on the desktop, press enter key
at hh:mm:10, file ready to work with at hh:mm:18, sometimes hh:mm:16)

I have renamed the user profile in my laptop, to refresh the installation, and
tested it, with the same results. 

Then tested it in the laptop of my son, with a new installation on Win 8.1, and
obtained the same results.

I’m uploading the screenshots of the crash in my laptop, and the crash on the
other one.

All I mentioned in my previous comment was reproducible in the same manner.

It is necessary to remark that the movement of the figures are with the arrow
keys, and the page view is set to fit width, with or without the sidebar, so I
will repeat the steps to reproduce:

open the file
set page view to fit width
select the rectangle with a mouse click
use the up arrow key to move the figure, and keep pressed until it reaches the
top

Notice at this point if the page view resets to the center of the page height.

If this happens, only change to the down arrow key and keep pressed until
appears in the screen and keep it until the figure reaches the down end of the
working area. The view stays there, as it should be.

Repeat the step to go up back, sometimes it will require to repeat the up and
down steps until the problem happens, when it does notice that in the left
pane, the image in the first slide disappear, and then the program freezes, the
rectangle turns gray, and after a few seconds the program closes, or a windows
warning dialog appears, informing that “LibreOffice stop working”.

The results mentioned in comment 18 are from Ubuntu 14.04, 32 bit, Kernel
3.13.0-32-generic, Memory 3.0 GiB, Processor 2 x Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500
@ 2,3 GHz

It is the best result from computers we are using in our office. It's actually
very complicated to say to employees, that the problem will be solved in some
time (repeat it with every upgrade of Libreoffice).

I think it is important sometimes to imagine, that people are not laying just
to get more attention, but to put yourself in place of those trying to advocate
open-source solutions, donating personal money and having to negotiate with
employees, which are really unhappy with the software and have good reason to
sit in the office and look to the monitor doing nothing, because the program is
hanged again in spite the problematic file can be opened on another nearly 10
years old celeron with MS Office 2003, but our policy is not to use MS Office.

It is not necessary to set the page view to fit width, it happen also in other
views, and with the side bar, or without the sidebar.

I've made the test with the file I uploaded, and with the same file that is my
laptop. Same results.

Yes, where is the problem ? the origin date is saved in the file, if you change
it, the dates change accordingly because each date is an amount of days from
the origin date.
Why do you want to change the origin date for an existing file ?

this explanation.

I am experiencing problems with Fontwork.

Steps to reproduce:

Current behavior:
Text entered in Fontwork is duplicated. If I enter text, it is repeated and I
cannot seem to correct this. Documents produced in older version are fine as
long as I don't try to change the text. I'm not sure which version was used
when this function worked properly. It appeared with my upgrade to 4.2.6. I
then downloaded your current version 4.3.1.2 in hopes this was corrected, but
it still occus.

Expected behavior:
Text will appear as entered.

Operating System: Mac OS X
Version: 4.3.0.4 release

Hallo,

danke für die Antwort.
Die Wartezeit gibt es nur, wenn das Netzwerkkabel angeschlossen ist. Es 
ist gleich, ob neue Datei oder alte , klein oder groß. Es sind 5 sec. 
bevor der Speichervorgang beginnt.
Es ist bei Libre Office 4.2.6. Bei Apache Office 3 und Version 4 war es 
genauso. Bei meinem alten Notebook war es nicht so.
Jetzt habe ich Windows 7.

Pop-up window with system titlebar

System: Kubuntu 14.04, KDELibs 4.13.3, Qt 4.8.6

Current behaviour: Clicking the arrow of the "Background" picker of the
"Formatting" toolbar exhibits a pop-up window with the system's titlebar (see
popup_background.png)

Expected behaviour: The pop-up should not have any titlebar.

Workaround: KWin (the KDE window manager) can force the pop-up window not to
display titlebars and frames (see popup_background_forced.png).

Effected pickers (as far I as I can see):
* "Formatting" toolbar: Font color, Highlighting, Background
* "Table" toolbar: Border style, Border Color, Borders, Background
* "Frame" toolbar: Background

Refer to the "Insert" toolbar to find pickers that are not effected at all (see
popup_table.png).

It would be interesting if you could try with 64 bits versions of Ubuntu 14.04
and LibreOffice.
Did you observe an heavy use of the swap when using LibreOffice ? Ubuntu can be
tweaked to reduce the use of the swap.

Note: I only try to find what is the cause of the difference in performance.

I can confirm the problem and the regression:
- works as expected in version 4.2.7.0.0+
- does not work in version 4.3.3.0.0+
- in master it is possible to get a correct pdf export but the frame parameters
must be modified because of a different color palette and a different
background filling management.
Each versions built at home under Ubuntu 14.04 x86-64.

This effects writer as well. The issue here is that the border button isnt a
two click group button similar to the paste or font color buttons.

If I change the condition on a conditional text field, this causes a hidden
section to unhide.

Steps:
1. Insert variable varA with value "is" (without the quotes) 
-- a. Insert > Fields > Other > Variables > Set Variable

-- c. Value: is
-- d. Click Insert

2. Press enter

3. Insert variable varB with value "is" (without the quotes)
-- same as step 1 with name varB

4. Press enter

5. Insert a conditional field based on varA
