[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 84510] New: Spellcheck ignores disabled "check upper-case" and "check special regions" for Zotero references

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84510

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 84510
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Spellcheck ignores disabled "check upper-case" and
"check special regions" for Zotero references
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Windows (All)
  Reporter: s-varoxamox...@vf.uni-konstanz.de
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.3.2.2 release
 Component: Writer
   Product: LibreOffice

Set-up: LibreOffice 4.3.2.2 Writer with LO interation plugin v3.5.9 and Zotero
4.0.22 plugin in Firefox
https://download.zotero.org/extension/zotero-4.0.22.xpi
https://download.zotero.org/integration/Zotero-LibreOffice-Plugin-3.5.9.xpi

Problem: References that include author names in the body text are checked for
spelling, despite "check upper-case" and "check special regions" being disabled
under Options > Language Settings > Writing Aids. This makes it necessary to
either add names to a dictionary, or ignore them => unnecessary click-fest in
both cases. Even if Zotero references aren't "special regions", the upper-case
setting should kick in.

I get both the Area and Line sub-panels expanded in v4.2.6.3, v4.3.2.2, and
v4.4.0.0 2014-09-25 under GNU/Linux. Given most drawn objects use both, perhaps
the gradient at the top of each sub-panel could slightly darken or change hue
to indicate active selection? Alternatively a highlighting border? I generally
agree though.

This only applies to v4.4.0.0 (not v4.2.6.3 or v4.3.2.2). Presumably this is
related to the recent changes to make these options open only in the sidebar by
default i.e., bug 73151. Is the query here that once open, repeated selection
of the same option should leave the sidebar open and not toggle show/hide
status? Note also that Format > Styles and Formatting still opens a separate
panel.

> 2) If the sidebar is enabled, but hidden (hidden means that the tab column
> is hidden and all that is left is a smal sliver which you can press to

> 'more' will not expand the sidebar.

At present (v4.4.0.0 2014-09-25 x86_64 deb) I find the entire show/hide feature
of the sidebar to be somewhat flaky (returns to a completely hidden state all
the time and then will not open except via manual click-n-drag). As a result I
am uncertain how to treat this report. Version set to 4.4.0.0.

@buzilla2 - thanks for the kind words. I tend to default to what I said just
because we literally hear it every day. If you go through the few thousand
bugs, at least 1 in 10 have someone screaming "this is a blocker! Fix it now!"
or some such thing and . . . as you can imagine, it can become
tiring/unmotivating/etc . . . reading it every day.

BTW the offer still stands for you to join QA ;) We could use people with your
skills (people who can follow instructions, do debugs, and write polite
messages). Let me know if you have literally any free time and I'll help
onboard you.

That being said - thanks so much for going the extra step and helping us narrow
down the problem. Moving this back to NEW

@Michael - should we somehow get those large files from bugzilla2?

Presumably this is a reference to other Master Pages NOT currently used in the
presentation? I think we should look at dispensing with the "background" term
altogether (these are master pages, or even better master slides). It is merely
confusing outside of editing a master page, but possibly involves ugly template
work. This applies to bug 84342 as well.

> Users could go the long route to achieve this same behaviour by clicking on
> the 'Load' button, then clicking 'Presentation Backgrounds' and then
> selecting one from the 'Templates' list.

This is a good case study of where the sidebar is a big improvement over
toolbars / menus / dialogs.

> In order not to heavily increase the height of the dialog, the master slide
> lists should contain 3 entries per row and should be a single row.

I think it could easily be possible to get two rows in, but the excessive
whitespace around the thumbnails in this dialog need to be reduced in order to
display in the same manner as that in the sidebar. I guess that is another
report :-) Status set to NEW. Minor edit to summary.

This is regarding charts copied from Calc into Writer or any other application.
Format Plot options are not shown in the format dialog. I'll give a more
detailed description together with the steps to reproduce.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Generate a line, bar or scatter chart in Calc, with one or more series
2) Select one of the series, and press the "format button" in the toolbar; or
via right click -> format.
3) The "Data Series" dialog appear. The first tab is called "Options" and there
are some configurations available there. For bar charts there are "Align data
series to", "Settings", "Plot options", while for line or scatter, only the 1º
and 3º are shown. You may change any of this options.
4) Copy and paste this chart in other application (Writer, Draw, Impress).
5) Activate of OLE object, and try to format one of the series

Expected behavior
1) All the options available when creating that chart in Calc are available
again.

Current behavior:
1) Plot options are not shown in the "Data series" dialog (only the words "plot
options" appear".

Confirmed. This is a UX issue regards keyboard navigation. Focus shifts (or

No way to return focus to transition list .UI with keyboard actions.

I would agree that the current icon sets for LO all suck on OSX, and don't get

That's just "magic", it's just using the system curl that is built with openSSL
support and get access to openssl system CA database.

Normally the official TDF deb packages are built with internal curl, handling
SSL with NSS. Thus it needs libnsspem to be able to read the certs from mozilla
profile... which is now working with the .rpm and windows builds.

And I spotted:

which looks unusual to me.

I suggest someone with a bit of a clue - go on Bjoern you know you want to
does:

git grep -10 createDataAccessToolsFactory

and applies the obvious fixup =)

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 84350] Creation of a shapes drop down group button

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84350

Hi Owen,

(In reply to comment #8)
> Jay I think the problem you are going to have with this enhancement is that
> it will depend on changing a few other UX aspects.

Can you elaborate on this.

> Of all the large
> drop-down-style examples, only that of Word 2013 offers the same level of
> convenience to what the Drawing toolbar in LO currently offers. I would
> certainly not want to draw anything elaborate or large with a single-group
> drop-down as the amount of clicking would be excessive.

One of the primary goals of the single group button is to provide quick access
to being able to add a single shape. If we see the current process of how we do
this in LibO, you will see where the problem is. So as an example, lets see the
process to add a pentagon.

1) move the mouse to the toolbar and click the draw toolbar button, else click
on menu bar - View > Toolbars > Drawing.

2) move the mouse to the bottom of the screen and click on the 'Basic Shapes'
drop down.

3) look through the list and click on the pentagon button.

4) draw the pentagon on the screen.

5) move the mouse to the top of the screen and click the draw toolbar button to
hide it.

And here are the steps with the group drop down.

1) move the mouse to the toolbar and click the group drop down.

2) look through the list and click on the pentagon button (ms word and ibm
symphony style) or move the mouse to the shapes category and then look through
the list and click the pentagon (google docs style)

3) draw the pentagon on the screen.

> For example, by default, the Basic Shape group displays the Diamond, however
> I can select Hexagon, which changes the displayed shape for that group. I
> can then draw multiple hexagons fairly quickly and easily, via a series of
> single-click selections. I can simultaneously do the same for any group,
> thus having the desired Block Arrow, Callout, Flowchart, or object from
> another group, should I choose to expose these.

Yes this would be an advantage of using the toolbar, when you need to work with
a number of different types of objects as you have multiple object groups. IBM
Symphony chose to have 2 group drop downs - one for basic and arrow shapes and
a second for flow charts, callouts, stars, and symbol shapes.

> With the Word 2013 arrangement each selected shape is moved to the Recent
> Used Shapes area at the head of the drop-down (or bottom of pop-up if the
> toolbar appears at the screen bottom). That is pseudo-convenient as it still
> requires hunting for the required icon each and every time.

The single group drop down would never be as extensive or as powerful as the
drawing toolbar, but it has advantages over the drawing toolbar when it comes
to easier access for single operations, as mentioned above.

The recent used shapes area found in Word 2013 could easily be molded into the
Google Docs styled list by adding an additional category called 'Recently
Used'.

> I can see how the proposed enhancement reduces the need for an entire
> dedicated Drawing toolbar. However I tend to agree with this comment by
> Regina that the effort would be better spent creating a new pane in the
> sidebar and then changing View > Toolbar > Drawing to expose this pane.

I doubt there is a need to dedicate an entire sidebar pane to inserting drawing
objects and this enhancement is focused on toolbar users how wont be using the
sidebar.

> This is similar to the recent change with regard to the Styles and Formatting
> toolbar.

Can you elaborate on this.

--

There is a means of bringing all the functionality of the drawing toolbar into
a single toolbar button. You can see this illustrated with the insert button
found in the tools toolbar. It basically expands the entire insert toolbar when
you click on the drop down part. The only disadvantage to this is that
everything would need an extra click.

Okay, so that just sounds like a potential slow-down.

That seems pretty reasonable in terms of cross-platform or even between-machine
compatibility, but I'm talking about a single, unchanging stack of hardware and
software.

> By contrast, a single page style with *exactly* calculated / matching
> margins, head/foot area, footnotes, text lines, table spacing, et al. is

Those sound like good best practices, but I think that my previous claim
stands: On a single computer using a single copy of LibreOffice, I wouldn't
expect the # of pages to change. If we're losing some data due to round-off,
then let's a make a note of it and possibly fix it. If there's actually a
non-deterministic function involved in the layout, let's document it and
(maybe?) fix it.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 34555] Make cropping handles for images (as in Draw/Impress) available for all LibreOffice applications

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34555

Hi Sushil,

I only got as far as figuring out how to add a crop button to the relevent
toolbar. I did not get an event to fire to run some code after the button was
pressed. You will need to edit this XML file for the toolbar. It's pretty easy
to understand: /core/sw/uiconfig/swriter/toolbar/graphicobjectbar.xml.

Since my son was born I don't have any free time to write code. Best of luck! I
have assigned the bug to 'default' so you can take it. Cheers.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 84518] New: cursor position in formula bar wrong for certain letters

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84518

Bug ID: 84518

Summary: cursor position in formula bar wrong for certain
letters
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Mac OS X (All)
  Reporter: js54...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.3.2.2 release
 Component: Formula Editor
   Product: LibreOffice

When I type in something with "fi" in the formula bar, the cursor can't go
between the "f" and the "i". When moving the cursor with arrow keys, the cursor
remains on one side or the other of the "fi" when it should be in the middle.
Sometimes this means you select more letters than it appears if you click and
drag then copy and paste text from the formula bar.

OTOH, it seems to be defined only there, and only used / declared in other
places.

My guess is more in the direction that now dbtools is both linked *and*
dlopen()ed from libsvxcore (and thus mergedlibs), and when dbtools is in
mergedlibs, the svxcore code does not find libdbtoolslo.so/dylib/dll to
dlopen(). So we should change the dlopen() mechanism in the mergedlibs case to
not try to do dlopen() and just assume the symbols are there? Something like
that.

Is there an "#ifdef" we can do to detect mergedlibs case?

Hi Joel,

The output is, as far as I can tell, identical. Obtaining a full backtrace on
recent versions of OSX is more difficult for the casual user because Apple has
removed gdb, and replaced it with lldb.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 72424] Writer document re-calculates spread of long table on opening, changing number of pages

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72424

I agree with qubit, of course. It seems that at this point, the "good practice"
became so complicated that I couldn't follow it for the life of me, no matter
how much I tried.

But I want to draw the attention to another point here. The problem, for me, is
this: I save a document in a good condition, with all the table rows tucked in
neatly, and when I open it, libreoffice adds unneeded breaks. You can see for
yourself that there is plenty of space for rows left in each page of the "long"
document, and that you can correct this if you manually "squeeze" the lower
bborder of the first affected row with the mouse. So as I see it, it is a
problem of the automatic table spreading routine, which fails in some cases to
see that there is more than enough space for the last row in a page.

As the named qt-bugs were patched in my latest tests

cause is on the libreoffice side.

I suppose no actual linux distribution works correct in this way.

Nobody had assigned himself to this bug.
Could be the bug is reported for the wrong component. There is a bug for charts
reported in BUG82824 for component Writer, which looks a little bit like this

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 84523] New: Feature Request: Support For Multi-User Server

2014-09-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84523

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 84523
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Feature Request: Support For Multi-User Server
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: drich...@largo.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: 4.4.0.0.alpha0+ Master
 Component: Impress Remote
   Product: LibreOffice

The Impress remote is a wonderful idea and we'd like to deploy it, but it
cannot work on a multi-user server. The remote is connecting to a TCP port
which only works when you have one user. If multiple instances and users are
running on the same computer, this design will not work.

This request is for a design change that works with single and multiple users
that might all connect to Impress running on the same IP address. I'm assuming
the remote would have to log into the user account in some way (ssh?) and pass
commands in that manner.

It's certainly understood this is a significant change, but right now larger
organizations won't be able to use the remote with it's many users.

I can reproduce with following configuration

LO 4.3.3, Ubuntu
LO 4.3.2, Win7 in virtualbox on the same machine
shared /tmp between Linux and Windows

When shared file is XLS, then error message appears:
Document file 'file.xls' is locked for editing by

When shared file is XLSX, then error message is:
This document was last saved by Excel. Some formula cells may produce
different results when recalculated.
Do you want to recalculate all formula cells now?
This spreadsheet is no longer in shared mode.
Save your spreadsheet to a separate file and merge your changes to the
shared spreadsheet manually.

I can confirm that this is a problem for me as well. The file menu takes many
seconds to open the first time I open it. Subsequent attempts to open the file
menu are instantaneous. Yes, there are network items in my Recent Documents.
I am on 4.3.1.2.
