[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 92064] New: LO unusable with Tibetan super long paragraphs
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92064 Bug ID: 92064 Summary: LO unusable with Tibetan super long paragraphs Product: LibreOffice Version: 4.4.4.1 rc Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Linux (All) Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Writer Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: elie.r...@telecom-bretagne.eu Created attachment 116527 -- https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=116527action=edit Tibetan text (with long paragraph) Dear All, In Tibetan the notion of paragraph doesn't exist, and thus texts (even hundreds of pages) are usually in only one paragraph (no line break). MS Word apparently handles that without performance issue, but LibreOffice has huge performance issues when opening or editing this kind of file. See for instance attached (xzipped) file, I didn't really manage to open it, the CPU starts to heat a lot, LO doesn't answer anymore and I have to kill it by hand. This file comes from http://www.dharmadownload.net (the second text from http://www.dharmadownload.net/pages/english/Sungbum/006_mdzod%20bdun/pages/01_mdzod%20bdun%20-%20yid%20zhin%20mdzod.html), and is a normal Tibetan text, not a long paragraph torture test made to test performance... This bug makes LO unusable in production for Tibetan, which is a pity as many tools are in gestation for spell checking and grammar checking for Tibetan in LO, that would make it much better than Word. This might be related to https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89666 or https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39372 but it still happens on 4.4.4~rc1 (Debian/sid), so the patches don't seem to be enough. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 91896] Can't insert PDF file into Writer document
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91896 Patrick Sedgwick patrick.sedgw...@btinternet.com changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEEDINFO|UNCONFIRMED Ever confirmed|1 |0 --- Comment #7 from Patrick Sedgwick patrick.sedgw...@btinternet.com --- Hi Jean-Baptiste, Thank you for your comments and advice. Thank you too for asking me what I would expect from a “insert PDF file” feature. LibreOffice Draw can *open* a multipage PDF file. I would like to see the same kind of behaviour, in a Writer document, as an *insert* feature. Suppose I have a Writer document, with 3 pages of text. I would like to be able to insert a PDF file, anywhere in that document, at the cursor position, so that it adds the pages from the PDF, into that Writer document, after the current page. Each inserted page should look the same in the Writer document, as it looked in the original PDF. (And… *ideally*, if the PDF file has a mixture of images and text in it, I would ideally like the text-content to be editable in the Writer document, after the PDF is inserted.) Maybe this is all asking for too much, but you did ask what I would like! I’m attaching some sample documents to show the before-and-after situation I envisage. For some reason, what should be shown as checkboxes (squares) are shown as Euro signs. I tried to open this same file with MS Office 2007 running in CrossOver and it renders correctly. I do have the Times New Roman font installed and available to any of the applications. Also, footnotes appear with a regular numeral like instead of a superscript. The attached document shows the problem triggered bu a {\sub TEXT}, but the problem is the same when that is a {\super TEXT}. https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91947 --- Comment #8 from Alex Thurgood ipla...@yahoo.co.uk --- In what way is it ostrich-like ? If no one else on OSX experiences the problem in a reproducible manner so that we can understand how and why it exists (and hence possibly see a way to fix it), and if the problem goes away on master when one forces a recalculation of the sheet, then the problem is a minor annoyance at best, but still doesn't bring us any further in understanding what caused it. Unless you happen to know lots of Mac users and developers that can explain how to reproduce the problem and suggest a fix, the project itself doesn't have those resources, and hence this bug is unlikely to be either confirmed or fix. Nothin ostrich-like about it, just a fact of life for a mainly volunteer driven project like this one. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

It seems that requesting CTRL+F, typing in [keyword]and pressing the Enter key conflicts with loading the file. I have no idea where the problem may originate, whether the call is badly handled by the OS or whether something does not quite agree with probing the reserved memory alloc just when that memory is loading its content. I am no dev, nor a Lx-tech, so I am stumped. What screams in my face is that this happens with ANY file large enough for the loading process to be long, so I have time to type in the sequence: 'CTRL+F [keyword] Enter'. 2) You suggested installing 4.4.x. So I did. So far I had not tried to install packages outside the Ubuntu Software Center. Here is what I did from Terminal: alias sag='sudo apt-get' sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:libreoffice/ppa sag update; sag dist-upgrade Then I copied the content of ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user in a backup directory and killed everything related to Libreoffice that ran ps -aux | egrep libreoffice | awk -F '{print $2}' | kill -9 sag purge libreoffice* I downloaded LibreOffice_4.4.3_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz from the LibreOffice Download page and put it in /opt/ sudo chown root:root LibreOffice_4.4.3_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz sudo chmod go+rw LibreOffice_4.4.3_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz tar xzvf 4.4.3_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz cd LibreOffice_4.4.3_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz/DEBS sudo dpkg -i *.deb OS restart and trial of LO. Result: The thing has gone completely spastic. Opening previous document was successful albeit quite a bit slower than with 4.2.x. After opening , the mere fact of checking options to see that all was well app-config-option wise made Writer crash no less than 4 times in a row. That install is unusable as is. Did I do st wrong ? Do I have to start again fresh with the LO install ? If so how do I get rid of 4.4.3 and _everything_ pertaining to it in the first place ? Would the following be enough for that ? sag --purge remove libreoffice* ; sag --purge autoremove -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 91947] Calc does not compute a formula in particular Calc file (OSX)
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91947 --- Comment #9 from maur...@id.ternata.net --- First of all, I am very grateful for this very nice piece of software. I thanks everyone that invests time or any resources in this project and, more generally, in any FOSS-related project. We have a file that shows the problem here. You mentioned earlier that you were able to see the incorrect calculation. To me, the problem is not that no one is able to rebuild this file yet, but the fact that we have a file, which seems to be valid considering the open document standards, that LibreOffice is not computing it correctly. So, we have the data that reproduce the problem but we just don't know how we managed to build these data. If that is sufficient to discard the whole problem, then this what I call the ostrich-like approach. Why is LibreOffice not computing correctly? Is the file valid? If yes, then why should we bother about how this file was build. If no, then the problem is somewhere else, it is not that LibreOffice is not computing correctly but that LibreOffice allowed someone to build an invalid file, and then it might useful/vital to know how we build this file. This approach seems a bit strange to me, because it sets the same text attributes for a second time, just to properly position the bullet in the preview mode (to be clear - the attributes that passed to sd::View are also forwarded to EditView\EditEngine at some point). Also the assumption that you can simply copy attributes to a new SfxItemSet and feed the View with it, doesn't seem to work as soon as the selected text has several font sizes (that's another regression from this commit), or when it has an empty bullet item like in this bug. The flickering mentioned in the bug description, is most probably because it sets the new (correct) size, but then immediately reverts it by the second attributes setting I mentioned above. Up to this stage, I managed to get 2 different working patches, and I'm not sure which one is better (or maybe both approaches are wrong)? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
