[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 84548] Please make creation of mail labels a bit more flexible
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84548 --- Comment #13 from yvan.mas...@openmailbox.org --- Hi Cor, Thanks again for the time you spend on this. (In reply to Cor Nouws from comment #12) > Hi Yvan, > > Let me try again :) > > > First, thanks a lot for this good and usefull software ! > > thanks! > > > 1. When you finish your label document (choosing format, choosing database > > and fields, synchronizing contents, using mailing assistant to merge > > addresses, save the resulting file), you obtain a sheet where you can only > > modify the first label, but not the others. Ignore protection. (I think this is new.) Thanks for the tip ! This made our secretary screaming last year. I see at least two possible solutions to improve this: - write this in the documentation in the section referring to labels. - Ignore protection by default when working on labels (I might be wrong but I do not see any reason to protect labels by default). > > > > 2. After choosing format, database and fields, you cannot have an overview > > of the merge result, the only choice is to print or to save : you can not > > correct you mistake directly. > > I can do that after step #7. (Since protection can be ignored - see above) > For normal letters (not labels) step #6 does that job. You are right: this is not an obvious solution but it works and you can go back an make correction if something is wrong. > > > Maybe add a "Merging overview" button to the > > "Synchronize labels" ? > > You mean on the specific tool bar? I mean on the small floating window where there is the "Synchronize labels" button. > That would introduce a third way of performing mail merge.. People may get > confused? > (However the idea as such, is not bad.) Indeed, but I think this one would be really intuitive, would allow to quickly toggle between "database fields view" and "merged view", and so very usefull especially for newcomers. > > > 2bis. After choosing format, database and fields, you have to launch the > > Mailing Assistant and skip most of the steps to save the merged file. I have the same argument here: a "Merge and save" button would not be so confusing for experienced users, but would be really nice for beginners. > > > > >> 3. Yes, you can do that, but I think it would be better to also include an > > "Add data source" button directly in the mail labels' first window. File > New > Label opens a first window which allows to choose data source ONLY from databases which were previously added. > Tools > Mail merge (Use current document (already created labels) .. Step 3, > insert Address book, allows it too. Yes, but same problem as I said above: the need to add a database, BEFORE creating a new label document where you need it, is in my opinion not intuitive at all. > > Apart from the challenges you, me and many others experience to fiend their > easiest way to perform mail merge tasks, which is reflected in your remarks > and our discussion, I do see one specific IMO new request in your report: > > Extend the 'Synchronize' toolbar with two buttons: "Merging overview", > "Merge and save". > Is that fine for you? https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94140 --- Comment #7 from cporter...@gmail.com --- Hi Cor; Try filtering out column E for the "Exclude" items. This really puts the system through the test. Based on your information I did some more testing and here is what I found: Windows 10, i7 processor, Libra Calc build 5.0.1.2, states it is "up to date" Column D, thumgs.db, everything works immediately. Column E, Exclude, it takes 10 seconds Debian 8.2 (x86-64), Cinamon 2.2.16, Linux Kernel version 3.16.0-4-amd64, AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor 3700+ x 1, memory 2.7G, Libra Calc 4.3.3.2, Build ID 430m0(Build:2) Column D, thumbs.db, everything works immediately. Column E, Exclude, everything works immediately. So from my limited testing ability here, Windows 10 would "appear" to be the issue? Though why yours showed the delays on Linux I don't know? [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 94203] IMPORT RTF: MS Serif text is invisible in a specific document
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94203 Adolfo Jaymechanged: What|Removed |Added Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |NOTABUG --- Comment #3 from Adolfo Jayme --- Note that you should not use the “MS Serif” or “MS Sans Serif” virtual fonts, which can’t be printed at all. Those are relics of the Windows 3.1-era operating systems, and are still in Windows for backwards-compatibility purposes. I called them “virtual fonts” because they are not actual fonts you can use; those are raster fonts intended to be used by legacy, 16-bit software (incompatible with 64-bit, of course). The Windows Registry will map those names to real OpenType fonts, namely Arial and Times New Roman, which you can see in the PDF export. Since this is something Windows does internally, it’s neither our fault nor a bug. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94193 V Stuart Footechanged: What|Removed |Added Priority|medium |high --- Comment #11 from V Stuart Foote --- @sebalis, One more thing I think would be helpful, unfortunately again another round of remove -> clean -> install. Sorry! For this installation launch your CMD window "Run as Administrator", you are looking for it to start with UAC acknowledgement, and open in C:\Windows\system32, not your user profile home. Then navigate to your downloaded MSI and run your install as before: msiexec.exe /i LibreOffice_5.0.1_Win_x64.msi /qf /L*v installTestXX.log We're looking to avoid trigger of RestrictedUserControl which I think is residual UAC difference between a user account in the Administrators group and the local system Administrator. Other way to test, would be to activate and log in with the local system Administrator account--but that causes IT folks great grief ;-) You might enlist their assistance if you want to try that. I can now understand what went 'off' and why the programming changed in this manner, so that internationally, it would be more flexible to local standards. So, instead of just typing in "Sep15" to yield "Sep-2015" or "13Sep15" to yield "13-Sep-2015" I have to separate the elements with a dash or a space. It's an adjustment in my behaviour, but okay.
