Sample XLSM that behaves differently in Calc and Excel

- Open the attached Excel spreadsheet (a slightly modified version of
attachment 132647 from bug 107238, but otherwise they are not related).
- For reference, create an autofilter by hitting AutoFilter button.

=> 1) Note that column B's autofilter dropdown contains 1, 2 and 3. This is
correct.

- Undo the autofilter creation, or reload the spreadsheet.
- Run macro "AF" from the file.

=> 2) Now column B's autofilter dropdown also contains the date 2017-01-01.

Excel behaves like 1), so that would be the correct behavior.

Description:
Calc fails to retain format of a selected character in a way that contradicts
every other program I've ever used, including Excel.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. in Excel, enter a cell
2. set the font color to Red
3. type R - a red R appears - type space
4. set the font color to Green
5. type G - a green G appears - type space
6. set the font color to Blue
7. type B - a blue B appears now you have R G B, each letter with its own color
8. with the mouse select only the green G
9. type g - a green g replaces the green G - this is desirable behavior - the
user will often want to change a value without changing its format
10. repeat with Calc - a red g replaces the green G - it's same with
superscript, bold and all other formatting options

Actual Results:  
When selecting and replacing a character, Calc, instead of retaining the
format, looks backwards to the previous character (within the same cell) and
forces that formatting on the user.

Expected Results:
Calc should behave like Excel unless Excel has a bug or bad design. It should
also behave like almost every other program on the market. Even after
understanding Calc's behavior, it still take more keystrokes and mouse clicks
to perform the same operation.

Additional Info:
I wish you could stand behind a user and watch him or her spend hours working
on formatting a massive spreadsheet with lots of border, backgrounds, format
and font changes - and especially changes to individual characters within the
same cell. You would see just how incredibly frustrating the program is. As
always, I realize I'm complaining about a product that's free, and I still find
it significantly less frustrating than Excel on balance, but Calc is not
anywhere near as intuitive and intelligent as I would expect from such an
ambitious un-corporate product. Excel is already there as a model. I would
expect that you would take what works well in Excel and fix what doesn't,
rather than leaving out superior Excel behavior for which millions of users
have already transversed the learning curve.

In the Styles and Formatting sidebar, the "Modify" command is missing when
right clicking on any default style, with the exception of the parent style
"Default" itself.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Styles and Formatting toolbar.
2. Right click on a default style.

Actual Results:  
Only commands are:
- New
- Delete

Expected Results:
Commands available are:
- New
- Modify
- Delete


Reproducible: Always

Additional Info:
This problem started on update to LibreOffice 5.3, presumably due to the
implementation of new default styles. The problem did not exist in version 5.2.

It's of course possible to delete all the default styles and recreate them
manually, but this mostly defeats the purpose of having them in the first
place.

Now, copy/pasting the objects in attachment 133261 (sample2) does increase DC
count, so it's theoretically possible to reach the limit (I haven't tried), but

Now I see what you mean - it's a two-step process - first shift-scroll until
the desired cell is the left most, then zoom works like Excel. That helps. I
still think the Excel way (zooming to the selection instead of holding the left
column in place) is inherently better (and of course more intuitive because so
many of us started on Excel)

The font is broken, there is nothing we should do about this. There are already
fixed versions of the font, like the one available from Google Fonts
(https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Cardo). LibreOffice is not the only

I created bug 107851 because the other bug 106846 is for toolbars that are
created by the user and not toolbars delivered by LibO.

Jay:

The aligning, line spacing and paragraph spacing commands are nice. Idea to
enhance the style-focused behavior: These commands should change the
corresponding paragraph style's attributes of the selected paragraph, not the
selected paragraph in a direct-formatting way. How does that sound? Too
strange?

What I added to my company's style-focused formatting toolbar is the highlight
color button/widget. Because people like to (temporary) emphasize or mark some
text for collaborating people.

Does not seem a duplicate of that to me.

That one is a rendering problem of the preview.

This one is a problem with the KDE integration that makes the current style
entry gray until clicked.

The style-focused formatting toolbar of bug 106781 should be context-sensitive
like the standard formatting toolbar and in the same way.

Actual result:

Toolbar "Formatting (Styles)" is now inserted in addition to the "Formatting"
toolbar on the 3rd position. That's because it isn't content-sensitive and to
avoid jumps of the view canvas when clicking on an image, etc.

Expected result, when "Formatting (Styles)" toolbar instead of "Formatting"
toolbar is activated:

- Writing text, the "Formatting (Styles)" toolbar is shown.
- Clicking on a frame, the "Formatting (Styles)" toolbar is replaced by the
Frame toolbar.
- Clicking on a picture, the "Formatting (Styles)" toolbar is replaced by the
Frame and Image toolbars.

So the label is the same from the ODF spec, which mentions "The
style:flow-with-text attribute specifies the behavior of drawing shapes that
are positioned at a certain distance below an anchor and do not fit on the page
where the anchor is. If the value of the property is true, such drawing objects
follow the text flow, that is, they a displayed on the next page. If the
attribute value is false, such drawing objects are displayed outside the page's
text area."[1]

So for me, MS's 'Move with text' is more understandable than 'Follow text
flow', though i would improving it further as 'Move with paragraph text' or
'Move with anchored paragraph text'. The suggested 'Keep inside text area'
wouldnt make sense to me if i saw it, as i could move an image outside of page
margins which is the text area.

Regina,

One last question about this issue. I'd had help form someone who
programmatically removed the spacing around the formulas. When I open the file
in Writer, the formula is still rendered with the 0.1mm Left and Right spacing.
After I open the formula and close it, the 0mm spacing is rendered correctly.
Is there a global option to correctly render all formulas together in the
entire document instead of having to open-close them individually?

1. Create a new Calc document.
2. Write into cell A1: "Sheet1.A5 + Sheet1.$A$6".
3. Write into A5: "2".
4. Write into A6: "3".
5. Save document as "test00.ods".
6. Close all running LO instances and open Calc and then the file "test00.ods".
7. Change content of cell A1 to: "Sheet1X.A5 + Sheet1.$A$6" and press Enter.
#REF! appears instead of the number "5".
8. Click on the cell A1 and look at the content - "Sheet1X.A5" changed to
"#REF!.A5". This is the first bug (the correct behavior would be to leave the
cell content as it was).
9. Save the document (again to "test00.ods").
10. Close all running LO instances and open Calc and then the file
"test00.ods".
11. Click on the cell A1 and look at the content - "#REF!.A5" changed to
"#REF!". This is the second bug (the correct behavior would be to leave the
cell content as it was).

Few months ago I was working with a simple .ods spreadsheet referencing other
sheets from the same document and after writing one reference incorrectly
(similar to above), it changed itself to a weird reference to a file (but this
reference was incorrect and not functional). Back then I didn't have time to
report bugs in this Bugzilla and right now I can't reliably reproduce it, so
I'm just mentioning it for the person who'll dive into the referencing code to
check if there is not any visible bug with sheet references changing to file
references.

I've just recalled the problem is in the bisect repository
bibisect-linux-64-5.4 when python is required. Same happened when I bisected
bug 106117. The problem wasn't introduced by
743f9fc86f3d3b6e87bf58c0654bcdccab0ab383 then. My bad.

Description:
If I create an ODP file in 5.3 with an embedded image, and open it in current
5.4 git it does not display.

Fails to display image with:

Progress has been made on PDF export. PDF export preserves now text
highlighting in LibreOffice 5.3.2.2 (Linux, Ubuntu 17.04).

Text highlightning is still not shown when in presentation mode.

Yes, easily.

It's a bad idea to use such commands, because it will be hard to make them
appear in the customization dialog. We really need separate commands. The good
news is that there are already separate commands. Right now they do nothing
(they used internally only to transport the style status), but I think we can
reuse them for the toolbar controls. Take a look at [1] for the mapping of
style families to their existing commands.

Note that several commands can be bound to one control, which can change its
behavior based on the command it gets. So using individual uno commands *does

Thanks Alex, and this makes no sense, and is not the way databases like MySQL,
Posgres, Dbase, Access, etc., work.  So while there might be valid arguments
for rejecting my improvement suggestion, this can't be one of them.

A data cell as just that, data.  It's not text, but just more generally data,
to be used for whatever the database developer sees fit.  


Let me give you just one example:

Often I have a minor and major category.  For example, in a shopping list I
have items to get, and each item has an associated category.

But this category is composed of a major and minor category.  To make this easy
to type, I give my major categories a single letter, e.g. g = groceries, b =
building materials, ...  then for the category lookup I can have 

g apples (grocery)
b 2x4s (building materials)

So with only a three keystrokes I can select an item, and it makes sense.  And
I can also see what the g or b refer to, via the concatenated suffix in parens,
e.g. (grocery).

Now as for leading spaces, sometimes it also make sense to have that major
category missing but still selectable, like for miscellaneous items, for
example, 

" plants (for the garden)".

Again with just two keystrokes, " p" I can select this item.

So keeping the ability to use leading spaces, is very much a part of modern
databases.  If you want you can trim spaces when working with text, depending
on what you're doing.


Of course there are many other reasons to allow leading spaces in data, like
what if you suck in a whole bunch of text lines and then want to sort them to
find the ones with leading spaces, or a certain number of leading spaces.

I opened that dialog and didnt have a line around the textbox and assume it was
adding padding outside of the textbox. :D

Good I think:

Because Del in nullable Text and Numeric fields already returns the field to
null, this is the same behavior as used elsewhere.  

I think Del key would be good in list-box to do this job!


...(Then perhaps later, the space method I presented above might make it even
better, as the space bar is easier to hit than the delete key, and every
keyboard has one ;-).  

Most of the time, data will not having a leading space, so you can quickly
remove an item with just a single space.  (BTW, I didn't think of this myself. 
Access does it this way too, and not to copy them, but just to try to speed
data entry as much as possible for users, especially for things that are done
all of the time with data entry.)



Not so good I think:

* Center key on keypad is probably out, as too many alternate keyboard issues
already exist worldwide, e,g. mac vs pc, german, vs english, no-keypad at
all...

* Backspace might work but if you've already typed some letters, then it needs
to serve a dual purpose, erasing those typed selectors, one by one, until you
back over the starting point, and then does this mean move field-left?  I think
backspace is too confusing.  (BUT..., I do think backspace needs to undo typed
selector key-strokes, e,g, if you type "del" then the current list
selector becomes just "de".)

Hello,
I "fixed" the problem by going through Format>Page and making changes then
changing them back a few times. I kept saving it until it started saving in
single line mode. I'm sorry I don't know which changes "fixed" it, but it may
have been the fact that I changed something and changed it back that did it.

I think it is a valid issue. When you open such document in Word, you will see,
that Word shows this spacing above the paragraph. So it is an interoperability
issue in addition.

The settings in "Text Attributes" are the padding of the whole text box. They
determine the distance of the content, composed by the paragraphs and lists,
from the edges of the area, which is defined for text. Word shows the actual
area for text with dotted lines. The padding is written as attribute
fo:padding-top of the  element of the shape.

The "Spacing above" is an attribute fo:margin-top of the
 of each paragraph.

LO must have crashed right before my upload and then reverted to prior save, ..
