https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81118 --- Comment #12 from Joel Greenyer --- This feature is very useful in InkScape and I miss it in LibreOffice since YEARS. I always wanted to write a feature request for this, but always secretly hoped that such a simple feature MUST be coming soon---I've yet waited in vain. I would like to have button in the Page Properties view, Page Format section, to select "Fit page size to contents". When pressed, it should calculate the width and height of the contents of the current page and write the result into the width and height text fields of that dialog. An extra action in the Format menu to reformat the page based on its contents with one click would be nice as well. However, keep in mind one tricky detail, namely that this feature must properly consider the BORDER THICKNESS of objects as well: Suppose your page contents is a single rectangle of width X and height Y, and it has a border thickness T, then the overall visible rectangle has width X+T and height Y+T, and this is the page format that should, in my opinion, be calculated by new feature. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=115254 Bug ID: 115254 Summary: [NEWHELP] Some branch bookmarks are not working Product: LibreOffice Version: 6.1.0.0.alpha0+ Master Hardware: All OS: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: Documentation Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: olivier.hal...@documentfoundation.org CC: olivier.hal...@documentfoundation.org Description: On opening some new help pages from LibreOffice dialogs, the default page opens even if a bookmark "branch" is sent by the software. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a dialog 2. select a widget 3. hit F1 Actual Results: Sometimes, the help page is the default page (writer entry page) and sometimes the help page is correct. Expected Results: Always open the right help page Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: The issue is in a small piece of Javascript, inside index2.html at https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/help/help3xsl/index2.html + var bookmark = rest.slice(rest.indexOf('/')+1, rest.indexOf('?')); var file = map[bookmark]; // rebuild URL if (file === undefined){ file = defaultFile; } + map[bookmark] is a map that transform the URL sent by LibreOffice to the right HTML page. It is a simple map generated by get_url.xsl https://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/help/help3xsl/get_url.xsl If the bookmark "branch" does not exist in the map, a default page in open. Th issue occurs because some dialogs have only one bookmark branch for the main help page and lack the branch for the dialog widgets. For example, will open the page /text/swriter/01/watermark.html (source is /text/scalc/01/watermark.xhp) but will open the default page because there is no entry for the TextInput widget of the dialog in the map. To fix that, the hard solution is to insert the bookmark branch for every dialog widget in every help page associated with a dialog. It's the right thing to do, but can be quite hard. The second solution is to improve the map or javascript and analyse the bookmark to see if there is another bookmark for the same help page. In the example above, the missing bookmark for TextInput should open the page for WatermarkDialog. So, when the map return undefined", check again with pieces of the URL. [Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 90068] FORMATTING Proposal to make italic, bold and other font variants as built-in styles, in addition to emphasis and strong emphasis, which are not obvious to inexperienced
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90068 Heiko Tietze changed: What|Removed |Added Keywords|needsUXEval | Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED CC|libreoffice-ux-advise@lists |tietze.he...@gmail.com |.freedesktop.org| Resolution|--- |WONTFIX --- Comment #13 from Heiko Tietze --- Many thanks for your thorough elaboration. We definitely need the expert knowledge from professional writers, although most of us have an academic background too. There is no doubt that Latex is a great tool and serves really well the use case of academic writing. Another example for a specific use case is Scribus, also a great tool when it comes to DTP. Both are not really easy to use for beginners because of the restricted workflow and the advanced functionality. LibreOffice (like any other office tool) fills the gap and allows, for instance, writing a letter with zero knowledge on layouting. It also aims to be an alternative to Latex and Scribus but not to the full extend. We identified two primary personas (prototypical users), Benjamin and Eve (https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design/HIG_foundations#Persona). And when we talk about improvements to the workflow or UX in general, we have to take both into consideration. While Eve might find into a Latex-like workflow, Benjamin wouldn't do that. Another aspect of Libreoffice is the tight relation to the open document format. It's always paramount to follow standards since we want to free people from a specific program. You should be able to create documents with LibreOffice and load it later in another tool but with exactly the same layout. While you say "users should not be presented with more than one way of calling text elements and modifications..." we explicitly want to allow different ways to accomplish a task. You can define a character style "textit" with an italic font style or "textbf" with bold weight and work like in Latex. The difference is that all parties have to agree on the styles and have to carefully make use of it. What we can do is to create a good set of factory defaults. That begins with Emphasis and Strong Emphasis for the character style over a reasonable default paragraph style based on norms, up to complete templates (where we have a lot of room to improve). And we can educate the user, which means among other aspects to give a clear feedback of the underlying formatting. Some ideas about such a "style inspector" are discussed in bug 112852 and bug 90646. Again, many thanks for your ideas and comments.
