[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 129607] New: 25% use of CPU if working with very large writer.exe files after Recovery Mode

2019-12-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129607

Bug ID: 129607
Summary: 25% use of CPU if working with very large writer.exe
files after Recovery Mode
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 6.3.3.2 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: d9319...@urhen.com

Description:
Working with 5+ documents and 200 page average, with different font colors and
highlights... makes Libreoffice use 25% of CPU for hours if not terminated.
Sometimes reproducible by just opening them on system, but a constant issue if
documents are opened through Recovery Mode.

A weird workaround is to kill tasks at random, until it magically drops to 0%
even if closing same writer tasks stabilizes the CPU consumption or not,
depending on how lucky you are. Also happens to Calc.exe, but also with
writer.exe without any calc.exe opened or vice-versa.

This is a bug, because I can work around and maintain all files opened at 0%
cpu.
Already tried disabling OpenGl, hardware acceleration, installing new versions
of Libreoffice (for years).
Either closing 1000pages processes, it might only drop to 0% when closing a
random 100 page document. Changing the specific large documents have the same
output.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open very large files at the same time (occurs more frequently by Recovery
Mode)
2. CPU 25%
3. All files work normally, not a single renderisation or any visible CPU
demanding feature, which a simple text editor wouldn't solve in 5 seconds

Actual Results:
CPU works at 25%, doesn't stop until I start randomly killing Writer tasks in
the windows taskbar.

Expected Results:
Rendering very large files to a point where I can manage to work with them
without abusing my hardware or depending on me playing with the software at
every startup before getting to work. After years with LO.

This is possibly fixable because, I have to work everytime I reopen files until
they stop consuming CPU. So, I fix this a lot, just don't know why.
By ending tasks, and reopenning them again, I can finally arrive at my initial
intention of editing simple text files with annotation features which LO offers
and notepad.exe doesn't.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

See the project Wiki:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/General/General_Installation_Issues_(Windows)

But, first thing is to open Task Manager -> Details page and kill any
soffice.bin or soffice.exe processes if any are hanging around.

Also while there, if you have a printer controller (Brother Control Center is
especially problematic causing the 1303 errors) shut it down.

We'll assume you've checked the hash value of the downloaded installer and it
is correct and complete. Do so if you have not.

Then please run a Command Windows or PowerShell session "As administrator" and
run install from the CLI so you can capture a verbose installation log, i.e.
from the folder holding the installer enter:

"msiexec.exe /i LibreOffice_6.3.4.2_Win_x64.msi /L*v lo6342InstLog.txt"

(the quotes are not needed unless your have file paths with spaces).

Do that, and if still having issues, you can zip the log file and attach it.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 34355] Option to show track changes in margin is missing

2019-12-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34355

I appreciate sharing that a balloon view is not your preference. However, many
have a completely different preference. I suppose that further suggests that
this should be a changeable setting.

I personally agree with many, many in this thread that the balloon
visualization of changes is a "must-have" feature. I spend the majority of my
day writing, and I professionally depend on it. For me this feature is so
critical and important that I simply cannot use LibreOffice for collaborative
writing with my entire team.

I use the mode in MS Word where it shows the final version of the document but
highlights the deleted text in balloons on the border. Personally, I think that
having the cross-out text in the middle of the remaining text makes it visually
very challenging, and in many cases unreadable. The other disadvantage of
keeping the deleted text and showing it in "cross-out" letters is that it
bloats the length of the document. What I find so beautiful about the "balloon
model" is that the document looks very similar to the final version, but the
deleted stuff is still visible on the sidelines. For many things we write, the
length of the document is very critical. If you keep the deleted text in there
(cross-out), the document will appear to get longer and longer, the more
changes there is (and it becomes less readable). This will mess up a lot of
things in the document, for instance how text flows around figures, etc.

A few years ago, someone maintained a "wish list" web page with the Top 10 most
desired features for LibreOffice/OpenOffice. This particular request was solid
#1 pretty much the entire time. So there are A LOT of people who really, really
want and need this feature. I think some of the comments on this thread also
reflect this. Based on this background, commenting that this is simply a "bad
idea" is not helpful. I understand that people have different preferences, and
FOSS is all about choice. Telling users that there need and wish of having this
feature is a bad idea is not really appreciative of their feedback.

Do your Calc generated invoice documents behave better if you set your default
printer and then enable 'Use printer metrics for text formatting' checkbox from
Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice Calc -> General panel?

Still set optimal, but with printer metrics will hold the on screen to the
printer for both the print preview and the final printed document.

Comes at a performance drag on the manipulating the Calc sheet--so is not the
default for normal spreadsheet use.

Also, what version of LO are you working against--post text from the Help ->
About LibreOffice dialog.

Install LO 6.4.0.1.

=> There's a 'help' directory with ~50-80 MB media files and a bunch of
generic/helper css/html/js/xsl files (no actual help content).

This is a regression in 6.4 compared to 6.3. The installer is comparably larger
because of the extra content as well.

Dear vic.orgos+bugslibreoffice,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

I have a partial solution - doesn't deal with the blending issue (that will be
for later when I work out how to create hatch primitives!). But I have fixed
the non-hatching or horizontal, vertical, forward diagnoal, backward diagonal,
large grid and diagonal cross.

Still needs polish, but submitting early for review.

Updated to latest Intel DCH driver, 26.20.100.7584 (2019-12-05) crashes on
Intel HD Grahics 620 and Intel Iris 540 for OpenGL rendering on Windows 10
64-bit (1903, 1909) have resolved--no longer crashing.

Will check some of the other GPUs that also had been crashing, but looks like
maybe Intel has corrected their drivers.

May change this over to Not Our Bug, but for now WFM.

I can also easily reproduce this when I make the window very small, 6.3.4.2 on
KDE Neon (ubuntu 18.04 base).

Merely moving from one monitor to another does not trigger the bug. It is
reducing the window size which does it.

2019-12-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129603

Bug ID: 129603
Summary: Calc formatting: print preview shows different row
height view than working version
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 3.3.0 release
  Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Calc
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: chetval...@gmail.com

Description:
I use Calc for invoices, and most of the cells have lines of text that wrap
into numerous lines. Even though my template is configured to be at "optimal
height" many times after filling a cell the rows crowd the cell and run into
the border. Then I reset the row for optimal height again and it looks normal.
If I do this, then many times when I reopen the file some rows are crowding
their border again, but the print preview looks normal. Then, if I reset the
affected rows to optimal height, it looks normal in the working version but the
print preview version shows extra space in the cell. My workaround has been to
alway look at the print preview to check if it looks correct before printing
since it seems to depict the printed or pdf version reliably.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Fill your Calc cell with rows of text
2.Format your Calc document's row height using "optimal height"
3.SAve, close the file, and reopen it.

Actual Results:
It doesn't alway happen for some unknown reason.

Expected Results:
Sometimes the row heights change on the working version.

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: No

OpenGL enabled: Yes

Additional Info:
The working file should look exactly like the printed and print preview
version.
Should I enable OpenGL? I don't think I've ever had it enabled, but have
enabled it now and will see if that fixes the problem.

[Libreoffice-bugs] [Bug 129600] Calc: Delete "Formula bar" item from View-Toolbars

2019-12-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129600

Had to think about it--but the Formula Bar, aka Input Line or Input Window
(sc/source/ui/app/inputwin.cxx) is _not_ a toolbar.

And, like the Status Bar, or the Page Pane in Draw, or the Slide Pane in
Impress the Calc Formula Bar will always have an entry on the Main View menu.

Similar was done for the inputwin.cxx for Writer with bug 124642 with some of
the same issues of not correct on the Toolbars sub-menu.

Adds little being listed on the View -> Toolbars, and for consistency as well,
should come off with Calc.

+1

@Frederic: If you disagree with the NOTABUG resolution, please provide the
detail about the font with which your MS Office substituted (a screenshot would
be best if you don't know the detail about that font), and also the reason
LibreOffice should follow MS Office on this, as "Comic Sans MS" seems a very
reasonable substitution.

in /home/fred/filestore/docs I'd like /home/fred/filestore/docs to appear as
one of the options.

This seems inherited and also reproducible in Win up to Lo 6.5+.
Not as reporter wrote in step 3., because I see all margins as 1 cm, but as
missing margins in Print Preview.
Key question is why this happens. Maybe "Fit print range(s) to width" with
value of 2. If set 1 for fit width, or set 2 for fit height, margins appear in
Print Preview.

I have only Windows now and I see "Comic Sans MS" installed and in the list of
fonts in MSO and LO.
You can call your fonts "whatever" and here it seems that someone typed
"ComicSansMS".
LO properly shows "ComicSansMS" and that it doesn't exist so substituted.
This is trivial issue and NotABug,

Reporter, confirmer, bug report and confirmation and not enough for a bug to be
resolved. Most helpful is to confirm if this wasn't present before, because
it's regression then and bibisectRequest may reveal how it came. I'm not on
Linux now but I'll mark and set.

Queijos is floating table that was shown wrong in LO 4.4.
Now in 6.5+ it's properly shown as in 5.4.
Still "a little bit off" but I find it not important to have this bug open.
Because in Word it's also misaligned.
We have bug 129458 that's more clear, simple tables and regression.

This is minor issue that started around LO 4.2, in 4.0 was the same.
