I've noticed a discrepancy in the color gradient display on the cell
background. While the content is compelling, addressing this visual issue could
enhance the overall user experience. Your attention to detail and commitment to
a polished presentation will undoubtedly elevate the impact of your content.
Keep up the great work

OS: Windows (All)

  Reporter: mikekagan...@hotmail.com

Using a debug master build, Skia/Vulkan, English UI (just to have a consistent
repro steps, with known length of strings), and tooltips enabled (not extended
tips, because that would make sizes larger):
Open any module, expand a color palette drop-down (e.g., background color
toolbar control in Calc), and hover the mouse pointer over top rows of Standard
palette's colors.

As soon as a short tooltip is to be displayed (e.g., Gray or Red), assertion in
SkiaSalGraphicsImpl::flushSurfaceToWindowContext fires, and the program
crashes.

Dear Mike Kaganski,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed
bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this
bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the
details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in
getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information
from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help
- About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your
bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from
https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';

Bug ID: 158941
Summary: When using Writer in version 7.6.4.1 it seems that the
program goes into ReadpOnly mode and will not let me
continue working on my document
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.6.4.1 release
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: godsbr...@comcast.net

Description:
Libre Office Writer froze and will not let me do anything with my document.
After 2 or 3 minutes it returns control to me and I can continue editing but
only for a very short time before it freezes up again.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a document in Writer
2. Edit the document
3. Document freezes up

Actual Results:
I already did that in the previous step

Expected Results:
It should not have frozen

Reproducible: Always

[Bug 158864] Many/most dark mode UI elements have too strong a contrast

2023-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158864

Reality is that LibreOffice is not and will never use native Windows API
WinRT/UWP. Just not going to happen. So ongoing limitations in mapping os/DE
themes, e.g. Win10/11 dark mode, will continue.

Bug 152534 is a legitimate issue, though clearly NOB.

Claims of excessive contrast are noise. In fact LO responds well to all four
of the Win11 provided Contrast themes "Aquatic", "Desert", "Dusk", or "Night
sky".

[Bug 158816] Dependence on ~/Documents

2023-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158816

When I look at content.xml inside the 'master' spreadsheet I see repeated
references to the subsidiary spreadsheets (without any path information).

I never find any references to the word Documents (as in my $HOME/Documents/)
nor to the word projects (as in my $HOME/projects/killigray/energy/insolation/
which is where all the files actually are). So I presume m.a.riosv is correct
in saying that LibreOffice stores relative paths; which in this case is
evaluated and saved as 'nothing' since they are in the same directory.

Therefore, something in the LibreOffice code is referring directly to
$HOME/Documents as a default location to look in, ahead of the master
spreadsheet's current directory.

"LibreOffice always shows the full path, even relative path is saved."

I don't understand this comment in context.

I don't know what path LibreOffice actually saves, all I can say is that is
expects (on opening) these files to be in my $HOME/Documents/ whereas they only
ever exist in my $HOME/projects/killigray/energy/insolation/ (where the
spreadsheet that gets data from them lives also).

If it were correctly saving the relative path, then it would not generate these
errors on opening the spreadsheet because, relative to the spreadsheet being
opened, these subsidiary spreadsheets are actually in the same directory.

Not exactly the same, but e.g. in Calc on cell format is background.
Page 'Area' in Writer, and page 'background' in Calc.

Perhaps it should be the same in all applications and contexts, or is there
really a difference that justifies it?

Further to this report:

If I use the Edit; Links to External Files and use the Modify button, I can
select the same named file in the current directory BUT clicking Insert
(closing the Modify dialog) take me back to the Links to External Files dialog,
which still shows the full path as being my $HOME/Documents/ rather than the
actual directory.

If I close the Links to External Files dialog and reopen it that linked file is
now shown as being in the correct location, but the other files are still shown
as being in my $HOME/Documents/.

If I now save the file, restart LOCalc and open the spreadsheet again, I STILL
get the error on opening, from the file where I previously selected that file
in my data directory- the error says it is in my $HOME/Documents/ along with
the others I did not change. And going back to the Links to External Files
dialog, this file is still shown there as being in my $HOME/Documents/

So I really do not believe this bug report should be closed without a fix.

What more information can I supply to help the team find the error?

Thanks
Graham

Thanks for taking an interest, but this advice is just what I can do to make
the error messages go away.

It does not address how the errors arose, so the bug is not fixed.

Also, the method proposed in the advice gives a nice route to breaking the
spreadsheet concerned. In the dialog where I am advised to remove the links,
there is no clue where the links are in the spreadsheet and therefore, what I
should expect them to do. Only by trial and error, will the user find out
whether the calculation involving the links is now broken. Perhaps the cell
reference is in the Element column of that dialog box? There is nothing in that
column for me, is that evidence that there is somehow a link to the file but
not to anything in the file? I will try to add a screen grab to show this.

This isn't specific to LibreOffice (assuming is it the commonly reported thing
that sounds like this) and can be controlled at a general desktop level with
gnome-tweaks where you can untick "Windows, Attach Modal Dialogs" to disable
this feature (that is out of the control of the application).

The automatic format detection of the validator does not work. You need to
select the format manually. The file is valid "OASIS ODF 1.3 (extended
confirming)".

MS Office is not able to use elements and attributes in loext or other
namespaces special for LibreOffice. If you want to create an odp-file usable by
foreign applications, you need to store it in "ODF 1.3", not in "ODF 1.3
extended".

When saving the file in "ODF 1.3", the saved file is valid according validator.
Nevertheless, PowerPoint does not read the images. For me it is a "not our bug"
issue.

Nothing has been deleted or rejected. It is normal for users to report issues

[Bug 158938] New: Writer loses page break character (0x0C) when utf-8 file is saved.

2023-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158938

Bug ID: 158938
Summary: Writer loses page break character (0x0C) when utf-8
file is saved.
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.6.4.1 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: mxav1...@gmail.com

Hi there,
It seems page break is lost when saving as UTF-8 file in both possible
situations:-
1. Page break is already in existing file (open as encoding UTF-8) text file.
2. When inserting a page break from menu using Alt-I and selecting page break
(or CTRL+ENTER).
Before saving it shows page break properly as it should. However after saving
the file (again as text but choosing encoding of UTF-8) or even via save as.

It appears that page breaks are converted to CR LF pair of 0x0D and 0x0A when
it is saved. It is reproducible at will. Just create a blank document, type
test1, insert page break from the insert menu or using CTRL+Enter , type in
next line test2 and enter another page break.
After saving this file as text with encoding of UTF-8, and reopening will no
longer have page breaks; instead it will display additional blank lines.
It looks like this matches with BUG ID: 116573, 130238, 155722 though in my
case it is not an RTF file but UTF-8 text file mixed with multilingual
sentences from two three languages.

2023-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158849

The output you created looks not good at all.
The CALC-File on which the serial letter is based contains three rows and I
expect three output pages too.
The adress block should consist of the character B to H followed be number 1
and the "Nummer" 1/2023 on page one, B-H 2 and "Nummer" 2/2023 on page two and
B-H 3 and "Nummer" 3/2023 on page three.
Page one of output is correct, in page two the adress block is missing,
"Nummer" is correct.
Page three contains the address block of page two and the "Nummer" of page 3.
Page four is empty and page five contains only the adress block which I expect
in page 3.
If you want to see the correct output print the serial letter with output into
single documents. That is working.

[Bug 158936] New: Writer extremely sluggish on larger files converted from .pdf. Appears to max out single cpu core

2023-12-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 158936
Summary: Writer extremely sluggish on larger files converted
from .pdf. Appears to max out single cpu core
   Product: LibreOffice
   Version: 7.6.4.1 release
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Writer
  Assignee: libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: pbpub...@vivaldi.net

Description:
I have had this problem for many years. I thought my new Ryzen system would
solve it, but it hasn't.

I often work on files converted from .pdf, often fairly large, Opening them in
LO takes up to 10 minutes at times, or fails altogether. If I can get it open
the solution then usually is to remove all ad hoc formatting and convert
various paragraph and page styles to a simple few.

Today I tried working with a 16MB .pdf. I tried converting it to .docx via
ilovepdf.com and then adobe.com, but LO, FreeOffice, and even Google Docs would
not open the .docx.

Then I opened the .pdf in Okular (no problem doing so) and did a text export.
This opens fine in geany, but not in LO. So I truncated it to the manageable
first 500kb to work on it. I stripped all formatting and converted everything
to Default Paragraph Style and saved as .odt, at 520KB. Usually that's enough
to solve performance problems, but this one is still a bear to work on.

What happens is the cpu will go to 9-11% and hang there. That's doesn't sound
bad, but what I think is happening is Writer is only working with one core, and
that core is maxed out. The behavior is the same as if the cpu is maxed. LO
freezes, usually alone, but sometimes Dolphin file manager will freeze too.

Calc has a setting to enable multicore processing, but it does not help this
Writer problem

I'm on 7.6.4.1 on Linux. I also used to have this problem in my Windows days
years ago.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open large file with a lot of ad hoc formatting
2.
3.

Actual Results:
File may or may not open. If it does open, Writer will freeze up doing simple
things like scrolling down.

Expected Results:
File should open and be workable.

Reproducible: Always

Sorry for the inconvenience... it's known issue and already resolved in newer
versions. There will be no 7.5.10 release..

Quote from bug 158797 comment 2
There is a fix for bug 155266 but, unfortunately, the fix will not be available
until the LibreOffice 7.6.5 release.

Fortunately, a tester has found a workaround for LibreOffice 7.5.9 and 7.6.4:
switch to Skia/Metal rendering.

To enable Skia/Metal rendering, do the following steps:

1. Open the Options dialog by selecting the LibreOffice > Preferences menu
2. Select LibreOffice > View in the left panel
3. In the right panel, check the "Use Skia for all rendering" and uncheck
"Force Skia software rendering" checkboxes as shown in the following screen
snapshot:
 https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/attachment.cgi?id=191409
4. Press the "OK" button and restart if prompted

If that does not work, another workaround is to install LibreOffice 7.5.8 or
7.6.3.

Open the attached database.
Go to Tools → SQL.

Start
SELECT * FROM "tbl_One"
and let show the output.

It will show for fields with 2 decimal places values like
1.000, 2.000, 10.000, 20.000
It will show the right decimal places for
1.10, 2.10, 10.10, 20.10

Screenshot will show the behavior also.
Query in the database file will show how many decimal places have been defined.

If you connect a subform with a form and use a numeric field with decimal
places the connection wont work. When refreshing the subform all data input
will disappear, because the connection will look, for example, for 2 decimal
places while there appear 3 places as entry in the subform.

SO this behavior with wrong decimal places isn't only "cosmetical".

Description:
I was concerned to discover that one of my Writer files that is password
protected opened today without requiring me to enter its password. I am 100%
certain I didn’t remove it manually. I’m wondering if it was auto-recovered and
if that triggered this?

Is this a bug or has anyone else experienced this?

I have a Dell desktop running Windows 10.

When I posted this on the LibreOffice forum I was told that auto-recovery
should not remove a password.

I have been using software for decades (and have worked in IT) and know that I
would have had to do Save As to be able to remove the password. I typically
save my file as I work with Ctrl-S. I can't see how I could have accidentally
removed the password.

I live alone so nobody else could have done this.

Based on my backups, I can see that the last password protected file was on
12/6. The 12/27 version had the password removed (sharing in case you made any
updates during this time).

I hope that it was somehow a user error though I can't see how I could have
done this. I want to ensure that the file in question is for my eyes only.

Sharing in case anyone else reports this same behavior.

Thanks.

Actual Results:
I'm not sure how you can do this.

Expected Results:
I would expect password to remain until a user selects Save As and unticks the
Save with password link.

Reproducible: Didn't try

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Not removed the password! :)

[Bug 47531] external references in charts

If this has been deleted because it has been solved please provide a link to
the solution, so that I can review and try it. It is also impossible to link
more than one external chart to any spreadsheet through the linking solution.
See the procedure in this discussion link:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/how-do-you-create-a-chart-in-a-spreadsheet-that-uses-data-contained-in-another-calc-spresdsheet/48542/7

If you would review more info about this "Deleted/Left Out Functionality",
removed, ignored or drooped functionality please review this link:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/calc-functionality-lost/99603/5

I would appreciate a response and review of the bug, rather than a flat
rejection. Calc can use URL links to other spreadsheets, and used to do this
when it was Star Office. It also worked in Excel. Why has it been swept
under the table?

Thanks for looking into it :-). A smaller example surely appreciated. I'm able
to reproduce this with your simplified version, with a small modification: a
page break before the image.
