https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35694 --- Comment #54 from QA Administrators --- ** Please read this message in its entirety before responding ** To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present. If you have time, please do the following: Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/ If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice. Please DO NOT Update the version field Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo'; 4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://kiwiirc.com/nextclient/irc.freenode.net/#libreoffice-qa Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone! This isn't "lack of work" - comment 39 outlined the necessary discussion involved in revising the spec (which I already stated was the blocking factor), and comment 41 was suggesting an *alternative* change. As far as fixing *this* behavior, my fix was indeed complete. Someone (anyone?) is > going to have to find out how to contact the board that wrote the spec and > ask them to reconsider - no one has yet been able to demonstrate a use case > for this behavior. I demonstrated a very useful use case for fixing it. The example is to create additional pages to be stapled onto the end of a government form. Say the form has pages 1 to 4, but it says "insert additional pages if needed." The subsequent pages should be numbered from an offset of 4, starting at 5. Currently, the only way to achieve this, is to create a document with 4 blank pages at the beginning, and only print from page 5 onward. This is what the whole notion of page number offset is for. You're right, no one has demonstrated a use case for the current specified behavior, because it does not make sense. How does one contact the board? Or the engineering steering committee? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35694 --- Comment #33 from Jason C. McDonald--- I can confirm this bug on LibreOffice 5.1.3.2. This may be "intended behavior", although a slight change to the feature would make it much more usable. As it stands, I think we can consider it a "misfeature". CURRENT BEHAVIOR: After applying offset, any page that would have an offset number > actual number of pages has an empty field. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: When most people apply an offset, they expect for the counting to begin at the specified number and continue *ad infinitum*. Thus, on a three-page document, with a page number autofield in the footer with an offset of 20 would number the pages "20, 21, 22". USE CASE: As an author, I frequently need to isolate a portion of a document for others to review, but want to maintain the page numbers so I know where in the larger document the change should be made. This is trivial on Microsoft Word, but decided non-trivial on LibreOffice. Fixing this mis-feature would make the process considerably more obvious and easier to use. FIX: Don't stop incrementing on offset page numbers for anything. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

I think that this bug should be fixed despite the workaround given in the previous comment, because it may not be uncommon to split up larger documents in smaller ones for easier editing, thus needing positive offsets for the page numbers when the whole document shall be printed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35694 --- Comment #30 from G.Ostner (LOBugs) lob...@austrofiction.at --- (In reply to Matthew Francis from comment #29) ... behaviour required by the OpenDocument specification (even though it still seems wrong) quote 19.845.2 text:page-number The text:page-adjust attribute specifies an adjustment of the value of a page number field, in order to display of page numbers of following or preceding pages. The specified value is added to the current page number. If a page with the resulting page number does not exist, no number is displayed. /quote Actually, I filed the same bug years ago against OOo 1.0 or 1.1 under another name and was told by the developers then that this was a WONTFIX bug. If it IS as per specification - and the specification seems very wrong if it is - wouldn't it make sense to remove the feature altogether instead of frustrating users who can't make it work? There is a nice workaround: 1. go to Insert menu 2. Pick manual break 3. Choose page break 4. Choose a page template 5. Choose a page number and check Change page number With this workaround, the feature (that doesn't work anyway, or only works for frankly unsatisfactory values of work), the feature won't be missed. If the workaround is well enough documented and indexed in the online help, it can also be easily found. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Libreoffice-bugs mailing list Libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-bugs
