I think we should discuss a broader solution on Friday - one idea is
whiteboard status "OS-XP" "OS-7" "OS-8" if the bug is very very specific to
the OS (has been confirmed to not be "Windows(ALL)" or even "Linux(ALL)"

Let's discuss Friday.

[Libreoffice-qa] Triaging Goals - Net Minus 10 per Day Against Version 4

2013-04-15 Thread Joel Madero
Hi All,

I think this is a completely manageable goal and will help ensure the next
minor release of 4 is free of blockers.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/buglist.cgi?list_id=285261&query_format=advanced&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&version=4.0.0.0.alpha0%2B%20Master&version=4.0.0.0.alpha1&version=4.0.0.0.beta1&version=4.1.0.0.alpha0%2B%20Master&version=4.0.0.0.beta2&version=4.0.0.1%20rc&version=4.0.0.2%20rc&version=4.0.0.3%20release&version=4.0.1.1%20rc&version=4.0.1.2%20release&version=4.0.2.1%20rc&version=4.0.2.2%20release&product=LibreOffice

Our team has been quite active and got the list down from 260 just Friday
(-70 almost), 10 a day net down would mean in less than a month we will be
at 0 which would be amazing.

Please take 10-15 minutes to look at the list and triage a bug or two.

Thanks all!

Best,
Joel

P.S. As always I'll get a short report daily to say "YES WE MADE IT!" or a
plead for more assistance :)

Currently we don't use bugzilla voting, also it is a big problem if the #1
enhancement request is some crazy request that takes 1000 hours to
implement. The idea is that we limit the poll to enhancements we KNOW can
be implemented in time and assign a well known developer to it who won't
just shelve it and let it sit there indefinitely.

Totally understood, when the forum goes live it will add another layer to
the puzzle (although my understanding is this *might* replace ask at some
point.

I think the way to improve is to streamline processes, get an understanding
of what each of us are responsible for, and have contact names readily
available if something is asked of you that you're sure is someone else's
responsibility. Ultimately communication is the only solution.

My proposal is that any bug that is reported on Ask, hand out my contact
info if the user needs help with FDO or our BSA system, any question on FDO
that clearly should be on Ask, I'll send to.whom?

I agree, but we need more concrete examples of what the problem is.
Personally I find FDO to be easy (this is precisely why we need others to
look at it and say EXACTLY what is wrong with it). For me, click on submit
a bug, select libreoffice, write steps to reproduce and put
attachment.seems straight forward, apparently for others there are
snags and we may be able to fix them if we know exactly the issue(s)

[Libreoffice-qa] Question : FILEOPEN bug vs 'filters and storage' bug

2013-04-15 Thread Adam Fyne
Hi,
This is my first mail sent to the 'libreoffice-qa' mail-list.
I hope this is the correct method of doing things...
My question is:
What is the difference between bugs posted under 'Writer' section with the
keyword 'FILEOPEN', to bugs in the 'filter and storage' section?
To me - it seems as if all the bugs under that have the 'FILEOPEN' keyword
should be under the 'filters and storage' section, no?

I agree that both Ask and QA need more people and need to be more user
friendly. In addition I think there are questions beings asked and answered
(in short duplicated) because there are too many channels (mail, forum, ask)
but too little people. I don't have any idea how to improve this...

IMO if we need documentation/wiki/instructions then the tool is wrong. It
needs to be intuitive and user friendly (Ask could easily be more user
friendly, bugzilla is a nightmare).

Following the logic of a famous scientist "If you can't explain it simply,
you don't understand it well enough" (Albert Einstein), I would say that "If
you need to explain it, then it's not simple enough" :)

Just my 2 cents ;)

Nope, at least not with PR or "we are listening to what you think!" up front.
It needs to be the other way around: If you find a set of enhancements that
seem to be valueable to users, the primary goals needs to be to sell those
ideas to developers. Before a developer is commited to a task, there should not
be any PR about it. And if its a volunteer, there should not be any PR about it
