[Libreoffice-qa] Incomplete text in menus and dialogs in 5.4.0.1

2017-07-05 Thread Pedro
Hi all

Has anyone in QA installed 5.4.0.1 under Windows?

I'm getting this new bug where the last letter in some of the menus and
dialogs is incomplete.

This happens regardless of the UI render mode.
My graphics adapter is an ATI Radeon HD 3800 running on Windows 7 Pro x64
SP1

Has anyone seen this? I can't find any bug report on this on Bugzilla.

Regards,
Pedro

Hi Pedro,

Don't know that I qualify as QA, but I do follow BZ & QA mailing list.
I have been using 5.4.0.1 since it became available and I don't see this
issue.
My graphics adapter is NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT & OS is Win 7 Ult x64 SP1

Regards
Dave

2017-07-05 Thread V Stuart Foote
@Pedro,

You seem to have set a system font other than Segoe UI or Tahoma (looking at
the x-height and crossbar positioning). Do you have a LibreOffice replacment
table in use? If so clear that and retest, otherwise reset you system font
to something with better/correct font metrics.

Thank you for the feedback Dave Barton and Chandrakant Dhutadmal!

Anyone who participates in this mailing list qualifies as QA in my opinion
;)

Actually it is Tahoma 11 point
This font works correctly with all other programs and with every version of
LibreOffice (except for 5.4.0.1)
I switched to Segoe UI 11 point and it is better (but there still seems to
be a rendering problem with the last letter in menu items that don't end
with ...)

I believe this is a regression but it only affects people who don't use the
Microsoft standard settings, so though luck for me :)

Kind regards,
Pedro

Hello Pedro,

I can't reproduce it on my Virtual machine neither.

Would you mind bisecting it with
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Bibisect/Windows?

It might help us to understand where the problem is.

Re: [Libreoffice-qa] Incomplete text in menus and dialogs in 5.4.0.1

2017-07-05 Thread V Stuart Foote
@Pedro,

I looked closer and the "1" and "y", are from Tahoma. Just the x-height and
crossbar position had looked stretched vertically to me--compared Segoe and
Tahoma side by side the clip shows Tahoma. Sorry for that noise.

As to the funky x-scale--unable to reproduce. Tried various Windows control
panel -> Display -> "Change only text size" settings, and also substituting
various fonts in LibreOffice --Tools -> Options -> Fonts -> including Tahoma
for Segoe, no combination resulted in the odd x-scaling/clipping you show.

Windows 8.1 Ent 64-bit en-US with
Version: 5.4.0.1 (x64)
Build ID: 962a9c4e2f56d1dbdd354b1becda28edd471f4f2
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 6.29; UI render: default (or w/CPU only, or
w/OpenGL);
Locale: en-US (en_US); Calc: CL

Is your VM Windows 7?

Unfortunately this seems to be a problem that can not be replicated in any
newer Windows version because Microsoft democratically decided to remove the
settings. The setting they did leave increases everything to 125% (which
makes icons blurry!)

This is where I changed font size to 11 points

As for bibisecting (or bisecting?) I really prefer not to do it on my work
machine.
If I can get Windows 7 in another machine I will try that.
(Unfortunately my home laptop is loaded with crappy Windows 10 and I don't
want to void the warranty)

Trying to help never generates noise ;)
Thank you for the Segoe UI tip. It is easier to read than Tahoma!

Pedro

Hi Pedro,

bisecting = git bisect
bibisect = binary git bisect (normally you would have to compile
LibreOffice every time)
