Re: [Libreoffice-qa] Bacchanaly around Bug 81041
Hi Urmas, I'm not going to discuss the content of the bug itself. I'd like to discuss some other things: First of all: thanks for just bringing this to the list, instead of play cat and mouse in Bugzilla which result in a huge spam. Secondly, I'm not sure how you even can ask for an official reply on an email where hard working volunteers and our total community are called/questioned as morons and faggots. Kind regards, Joren Op 30-07-14 om 19:38 schreef Urmas: Interesting things happen in LO QA community. Instead of reading 4.3 release notes, as an adequate person would, Jay Philips in comment 15 starts being rude (and authoritative) to me, which I —knowing about the dreck open source generally attracts— can look over; but than he snitches me over to the moderator, which is unacceptable. Fistly, is that 'person' going to excuse itself?, Secondly, I would like to get an official response: is LO a project where the adequate and sane people work, and it is safe for normal people to interact with, or is it some Gnome-like community of 1½ faggots in a circle? Providing a reputation of LO as a commercial-grade professional software, I would like to receive some explanations about faggots and snitches in its public-faced parts being the QA community. Hi Xisco, *, Xisco Faulí schreef op 5/06/2014 10:32: does it make sense to include another status for the regression issues where the problematic commit has been identified ? I'm asking it because yesterday I spent some time on this task and I could chase down two regressions, one of them made by a Collabora developer ( I've already sent him an email ) and the other by a merged AOO commit. I'm not sure about this. If you did track the bug down to a single commit (or developer), I think the keyword 'regression' + whiteboard 'bibisected' + a ping on IRC/CC or email to the particular developer is the best way. I think having the commit range, clear step-by-step actions, good summary/title and prioritizing is the most important in that case. I'm quite sure a developer who's willing to hunt down a regression will see the comment pointing towards a particular bug. Especially if you comment on it and place him/her in CC at once. Re: [Libreoffice-qa] New Whiteboard Statuses
Hi Kohei, Kohei Yoshida schreef op 5/06/2014 15:06: So, to me personally, this practice of witch-hunting (or finger-pointing) really bogs me down, especially I receive such notice hundreds of times during a typical development cycle. Well, that's at least not what I'm talking about right now. (1) we (I) are (am) only talking about bugs we can track down to 1 single commit or developer. Not a developer in general by component (writer, calc, ...), which we do now to try to avoid as much as possible. I'm not sure that there are that many QA'ers or reporters which can track down to 1 single developer/commit? I'm not a developer at all and just to provide me an idea: do you still receive that much CC's on bugs compared to months/a year ago? (2) we discussed this yesterday on the QA-call too. Our conclusion was to just kindly ping a developer in particular on IRC. (https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Meetings/2014/June_04#Topics_for_ESC.3F) If not I still am 'pro' an active approach and mail the particular developer (in private) or put him/her in CC. (3) and as far my experience concerns... I already know which developers are and are not open for a nice (not pointing, just asking) SINGLE message. I think other core QA members do have such experience too. Since statistically every change one makes can and will cause *some* regressions in some obscure corners, this disadvantages those who make lots of changes, even when those changes are to fix other regressions and bugs. True, but luckely not all regression cases are 'obscure' and border cases. And some of these sometimes escalate to a (often repeated) demand of a revert of the commit, which is another blow especially when the change itself took weeks and weeks of careful coding to get conceived. One can be as careful as possible, and still (and almost always) break somethign somewhere. Again: true. But we are not talking about: bug the particular developer as much as possible, if he doesn't react/revert/fix spam his email and IRC with threats to revert that commit ... I think we have to find the most constructive approach to get a regression bug fixed, with respect to the situation (developer, commit message, ...) and severity. IMHO it makes no sense to treat them as normal bugs or check the bug reports. The bug numbers in there are just part of the name of the file. It does not mean that they have any relations to the bug report. From my point of view the crash testing is more a developer tool that we use similar to unit tests to improve quality. To enable it: * Open LibreOffice * Tools Options LibreOffice Advanced * Check Enable experimental sidebar (on restart) * Restart LibreOffice * Open Writer for example * View Sidebar Kind regards, Joren ___ List Name: Libreoffice-qa mailing list Mail address: Libreoffice-qa@lists.freedesktop.org Change settings: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-qa Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice-qa/
Re: [Libreoffice-qa] QA for GSoC project
Hi there, Cao Cuong Ngo schreef op 28/05/13 16:15: Hi all, I've been selected in GSoC this year, project Extend Support for Content Management Systems. First of all Welcome! I'm glad you choose LibreOffice. I will implement the connection to Google Drive and properties/version dialog extension of CMIS. It would be great if someone can volunteer and spend sometimes to help testing my future feature . Pretty important for me and others: what are the requirements to test this (future) feature? I assume a Google account (with Google Drive) is one of (and only?) the major requirements here? I'm surely willing to test, and I'm sure I'm not the only one here. I have Linux (Mint) and Mac OSX to test/build on. If you finished some work that require testing, I think it'll be good to explain us what to test, and how to test. Good luck with this nice project! [Libreoffice-qa] Fwd: User Ideas page to collect and vote on ideas
Forwarded message: Hi all, I'm noticing many duplicates and invalid bugs in the bug tracker and keep thinking how we can get a grip on that. Having better organization would be essential to keep the bug tracker clean. So for user suggestions about new features I am suggesting to create an ideas page similar to * Sibelius: http://sibelius.ideascale.com/ * Path Finder: http://feedback.cocoatech.com/forums/275-path-finder-ideas That would be a good way to let users participate in a voting process and have them contribute the craziest ideas without cluttering the bug tracker. Every 2 months or so QA could go over that ideas page and see what get's the most votes (let's not digress into the votes discussion ;) ) or delete invalid ideas with a short comment. I think that could improve the bug tracker situation and prevent us from wasting precious time. Also the users are challenged more to present their ideas in a nice fashion so they gather more votes. What do you think? I'll try to have a closer look, and will try to get through the list by the end of this week. I'm not that familiar with templates, so I'll try to discuss a bit with other QA members (IRC-channel and Cor of course) regarding this topic. [Libreoffice-qa] Accepting can't open-bugs even if original program fails?
Hi, I saw following bug passing by: FILEOPEN: Opening a large (19MB) XLSX file very slow https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61721 It is reproducible. Opening that (huge) document takes a lot of time (after 5 minutes it didn't open yet on my MacOSX 10.8.2 both LibreOffice 4.0.1.2 and master). Opening the same file using Excel (for mac) result in same behavior (also force quit it after 5 minutes). Should I mark this bug as NEW, because I can reproduce that very slow behavior? Or close it because it also can't open correctly using the (probably) original office suite that is used to create this file? This is only one example, I think there are other examples somewhere in FDO. Re: [Libreoffice-qa] What are the requirements to set a bug to NEW
Hi Robert, Op 10-02-13 12:07, Robert Großkopf schreef: Hi *, I 'm just looking for some bugs in Base. There I found bugs declared as NEW, where nobody else but the report had made a comment and nothing is to see in the history about anybody, who has switched the report to NEW. This bug I have set to Needinfo. Was set to New. Could only be set to New by the reporter. Indeed, following the 'history' https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_activity.cgi?id=60217 it's set to NEW when it was submitted. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60217 I thought there must be someone, who could confirm the bug - not only the reporter. Or could we confirm our bug by ourselves? Also correct; It's not the right workflow to 'confirm' your own bugs. Only (core) developers (or very experienced QA members) can set a bug to NEW without confirmation. Unless they are looking for a 'second opinion'/independent confirmation. You did good to set the bug status to NEEDINFO because there is not enough info to confirm this bug. The problem with this kind of bugs is that: when someone set the bug status to NEW or RESOLVED WORKSFORME, we can't set it back to UNCONFIRMED (because the system mark it intern as 'ever reproduced = 1'). I also see that this bug is reported directly to FDO. With our BSA, where most people and end users report a bug, isn't this easy/possible anymore to set your bug while submitting to NEW (unless they browse afterwards to their own bug, log in to FDO and set it as NEW). Thanks for this cache, and you did great and correct :-).
