Date: Fri, 09 Aug 2002 12:04:23 -0500 From: John Musielewicz [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Warning: Untrustworthy seller on ebay If you go through ebay I'd watch out for Deal4nowtoo. I just had a really bad experience with him in a presales question- he advertised a 5 gig Type II hard drive then didn't have one then got really nasty when I questioned him on what he DID have. I checked his feedback and even though he has a majority of positive responses even the positives are riddled with negative comments such as poor advertising and wrong item shipped!! Alot of comments on over charging for shipping too. Plus I noticed that alot of the feedback seems to be repeats of the same ones almost as if the same person had made a mistake and sent it 5 times and for some reason it got through. So personally I think you'll get better prices, services and a better ebay experience if you go through someone else. Re: [LIB] 100CT or 110CT
Date: Fri, 9 Aug 2002 11:23:42 -0700 (PDT) From: David Chien [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [LIB] 100CT or 110CT I'm wondering why Xin is saying that the L100 can be overclocked to 266 with no major problems, but he doesn't seem to advise overclocking the L110 at all. Both the L100 and L110 can be overclocked to 266Mhz if you so desire. Instructions on my site below in the Overclocking section. However, because the L100 jumps 100Mhz from 166Mhz to 266Mhz vs. only 33Mhz for the L110 from 233Mhz to 266Mhz, the =effort= requried to get a faster, overclocked gives a greater return in increased speed on the L100 vs. the L110. The risk of damage to the Libretto for only 33Mhz on the L110 isn't really worth the effort given that you'll only be running about 10-15% faster based on Mhz alone. The cheaper L100 will jump up about 60% in speed alone, so that's worth risking a cheaper L100 model, and the return for many users is a far more useable, faster system. -- In both cases, expect the temperature to go up some. While Xin may not have noticed, physics alone dictate that faster Mhz = more heat generated from the same CPU. Can't get around that no matter what anyone says. Best to put a super-thin layer of thermal paste between the heatsink and CPU before reinstallation. Helps a few who have tried and discovered their Librettos overheated w/o it after overclocking. -- In general about a 90% to 266Mhz overclocking success rate on the L100 model (L110 is the same, but far fewer people have bothered). That's over 30 people that have told me about their successes. The other 10%? Dead Libretto, underclock to 200 or 233Mhz, or simply had to go back to 166Mhz. Date: Fri, 09 Aug 2002 19:59:44 + From: Matthew Hanson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [LIB] 100CT or 110CT From: David Chien [EMAIL PROTECTED] Both the L100 and L110 can be overclocked to 266Mhz if you so desire. Instructions on my site below in the Overclocking section. I did look at both your site and Xin's. The only reference to clocking the L110 I found on your page said that the process was the same as for the L100. I haven't found any information that would explain why the L110 can't be clocked faster than 266MHz. From the looks of the specs for each you've posted on your website, the two CPUs look pretty similar. Both run a 66MHz bus, but the L100 has a 2.5x multiplier, and the L110 has a 3.5x multiplier. As I recall, there's another factor determining the CPU speed. I forget just what that is. But it must be what enables the CPU to run faster. Can I assume that that missing factor is what is limiting the L110 CPU to a top speed of 266MHz? Not having followed discussions on o/c the L110, I guess I've been mistakenly thinking the 233MHz CPU could probably have been clocked over 300MHz. In general about a 90% to 266Mhz overclocking success rate on the L100 model (L110 is the same, but far fewer people have bothered). That's over 30 people that have told me about their successes. So does the L110 have any advantages over an overclocked L100? Does the L110 run significantly cooler at 233 than the L100? Are there any other features on the L100 that would justify either playing a bit more for it, or waiting for it's price to drop a bit more? Are there any other Not really I'd assume unless they put the 166Mhz CPU on a different process vs. the 233Mhz CPU. If the process size is the same (eg. 0.15 micron), then they're most likely the same with the exception that one is qualified at the plant for the faster speed. There might have been a version update on the 166Mhz CPU where the earlier chips were running off a fatter process size and thus hotter, but you'll have to dig around www.intel.com for that information. Other than that, given that the L100 is the same as the L110 when overclocked, there really isn't any pressing issues to choose one over the other when overclocking them both. Matt, It does not say one per person or household, just one per product. The only way you'd be sending fraudulent multiple submissions under this wording is if you copied the UPC and tried to redeem 2 rebates from one product. Also, note that the rebate is only good through Gateway, so they'd BETTER take the packing slip/receipt as valid. If I were going to buy more than one, you can BET that I'd take the time to send in one per envelope - a $100 rebate is worth a stamp!
