[LIB] Catch 22 ?? - Please Advise - Floppy/CD Usage - OS/HD Upgrade
Date: Fri, 21 May 2004 18:00:10 -0700 From: Mark Srebnik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Catch 22 ?? - Please Advise - Floppy/CD Usage - OS/HD Upgrade Greetings Libretterati, Got my Librettos the other day. They boot up (Win95) OK and look good. ISSUE 1 - Floppy Drive - CD-ROM DRIVE: However, bought a CD-R drive the other day and wanted to install driver on floppy disk. Floppy Drive doesn't work on one of the Librettos. Looks like floppy drive drive files are missing! So how do I install the floppy drive driver when the floppy drive doesn't work and I don't have a CD-ROM drive working either, since I can't use floppy drive Feels like a Catch 22 situation... Meanwhile, I did test the floppy drive on the other Libretto and it works fine Also, have issue right now as the guy I bought the Librettos from forgot to put the CD's in the box. Says he'll send them to me but in the meantime I have no disks at all. ISSUE 2 - HARD DRIVE & OS UPGRADE: Had thought that I would first get my CD-ROM drive working, then upgrade OS (Win98SE probably). Then I planned to put in new larger, faster hard drive. Since as of now, I do not have any original Toshiba floppy disks or CD's I'm wondering if that creates any issues for doing this. Hopefully, I'll be receiving some disks or CD's from the guy I bought from, but who knows So my question is can I: Option A) Do a clean install of the new OS on a new hard drive (without any Toshiba Libretto floppies or CD's)? or Option B) Make an image of the current hard drive and then install it onto the new hard drive and then upgrade OS over old OS? or Option C) ? Thanks for any and all input! Re: [LIB] Which 100CT chipset and cardbus controller?

And out of curiosity, do you have >the 'USB Root Hub' >device in the 110 Device Manager too Jim? ToPIC97 shows up under 'PCMCIA socket' (in Win2k it's 'PCMCIA adapters'); USB controller is not actually part of Libretto. You should only see that if you are using the Enhanced Port Replicator or a Cardbus USB card. >Oh gee what the heck was that free software that >reports system >components... I just saw it breezing by something the >other day, and >didn't >think of grabbing it. Don't know if it gets that >specific though. According to WCPUID the chipset is 'Toshiba 601'; CPU-Z also shows model 601. Jim __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! But Mandrake is good and easy to install I use Debian GNU/Linux 'sarge' on mine, and certainly recommend it to anyone. Sarge is not released yet, but almost finished, woody is rather old. Y have my own (compiled by and for Libretto) 2.4.23 kernel, and some drivers, as hostap sarge installer is much nicer. Anyway I don't have any media drives on mine, so I simply put the drive in a desktop with a 2.5" -> 3.5" IDE converter. Worked 'out of the box'. With Debian, the first part of the install can be done on any computer (other laptop with built-in CD, or desktop with IDE converter) and when the minimal system is installed, a first reboot is asked. Then put the disk inside the Libretto and go on ! Debian gives each release a name, not only a number. so woody and sarge are releases of Debian.
